Overview The ability to manage video as a data type is rapidly becoming a necessity for every organization. Video is already a key component of many business processes, and by 2016, it is predicted that enterprises will stream more than 16 hours of video per employee, per month (Gartner, Predicts 2012: Plan for Cloud, Mobility and 'Big Content' in Your ECM Strategy, November 16, 2011). Until now, it was difficult to store, manage, and display video assets in conjunction with enterprise workflows and security needs. This leads to a proliferation of temporary solutions and unmanaged video assets throughout many organizations. Kaltura Video Navigator, which is integrated with the IBM ECM suite, now enables any enterprise business process to seamlessly include video. 2 brings the power and flexibility of the Kaltura video management platform directly into the popular IBM Content Navigator interface. With the Kaltura solution, video becomes a native object type within the ECM suite. It can be included in team spaces, information lifecycle governance, compliance management, case management, and any other ECM workflow. Kaltura Video Navigator for ECM integrates video and rich media across a variety of IBM products to provide an engaging content experience. This enables authorized users to easily publish high-quality video content with minimal setup, or empower a user community to upload and manage media independently to targeted audiences. Key prerequisites Kaltura Video Navigator for ECM requires IBM Content Navigator V2.0.3 to be connected to any of the following ECM products: Content Foundation FileNet Content Manager Case Manager An HTML 5 browser with Internet access is a prerequisite for Kaltura MediaSpace Plus. Planned availability date July 21, 2015 Description Kaltura Video Navigator for ECM empowers users with intuitive video tools to add, update, search, publish, and watch videos. It is integrated directly through Content Navigator that supports Content Foundation and FileNet Content Manger, which can be extended to Case Foundation or Case Manager. The solution consists of a plug-in for Content Navigator that supports an on-premise IBM platform such as FileNet Content Manager or Content Foundation, in conjunction with the cloudbased Kaltura video services. Using this hybrid, on-premise, and cloud-based model allows the ECM repositories to maintain their role as the master source for storing and managing access to audio and video content. This in turn can be extended to content workflows and lifecycle governance, while at the same time provide the best-of-breed video streaming and transcoding management capabilities, which lead to the best-available-quality video playback on any device. 3 With Kaltura Video Navigator for ECM, any video asset, in virtually any format, can be uploaded to the ECM repository and then automatically processed by the Kaltura video platform. The Kaltura system transcodes the file into an optimal variety of formats for consumption, and maintains all derivatives according to the associated rules that are defined within ECM. Kaltura can also provide automated transcription as well as a variety of audio and video analyses of the asset for search and indexing purposes. When a user with the correct permissions views the video, Kaltura enables playback from within the Content Navigator interface by automatically determining the optimal format and delivery mode for the given user and device. This happens behind the scenes without explicit interaction from the user and without a new interface to learn. Kaltura Video Navigator transforms the capabilities of the ECM suite. It allows the deployment of video for any use case through the interfaces users already know and makes it easier for video users within the enterprise to comply with internal, data management requirements. At the same time, Kaltura provides peace of mind to IT personnel with proven, enterprise-grade security and the endless scalability of the cloud. Together, Kaltura and ECM make video a first-class, enterprise data type. Kaltura Video Navigator for ECM enables the following capabilities: The ECM repository maintains the access and governance of all assets. With great video capabilities, users are not required to send video assets elsewhere. Source video assets are always retained within IBM ECM repository; all asset management functionality is retained as if it were any other content type. Allows seamless storage, access control, search, retrieval, and playback of video. Every aspect of the video workflow functions smoothly and simply across desktop, table, and smartphone, whether inside or outside the firewall. Delivers high-quality video. The Kaltura multi-bitrate playback, Content Deliver Network (CDN) management, and integration, with WAN-optimization technologies, guarantee the best possible viewing experience for each viewer, even for high-bandwidth, long-tail, or high-load content. Delivers in-video search function. Users can search for video assets just as easily as they search. This capability includes metadata and can be extended to include full-text searching against a video transcript that will bring up the correct moment within the video, just like searching within a document. Supports full-information lifecycle governance. Video assets may be managed by using the existing ECM lifecycle management toolset, with secure deletion of derivative assets. Support full Case Management interface. Video assets may be used within the Case Manager interface just as any other document would be used. Comes ready for mobile. The Kaltura Video Navigator media playback capability is fully HTML5-compliant and works on any device. In addition, the Kaltura Mobile SDK enables video within any custom apps that are developed for ECM within the users' organization. This allows users to quickly and simply leverage the advanced video capabilities in conjunction with ECM-based functionality. Kaltura MediaSpace Plus Kaltura MediaSpace Plus serves as a bridge for video content beyond the ECM repositories by providing the ability to create, upload, share, search, browse, and watch live and on demand videos, presentations, screencasts, and other rich media content independent of ECM. Kaltura MediaSpace is a cloud-based offering that has a variety of integrations with other IBM solutions, such as IBM Connections. Kaltura MediaSpace Plus is essentially a video portal that easy enables the inclusion of video content into other social and media solutions. It allows the integration with those sources into an overall ECM solution later. Kaltura MediaSpace Plus can provide each enterprise user with access to a personal media repository to allow simple reuse of video assets across enterprise applications while retaining a unified security model. In this way, a video asset can be easily repurposed to serve as an internal learning and training tool. 4 Deployment options Video is a unique data type in that file size and playback requirements on multiple devices require separate processing. An hour-long, HD video can amount to more than 10 GB of disk storage. In addition, regulations and network connectivity enforce restrictions on which content can be distributed to a Content Delivery Network (CDN). CDNs eliminate video playback "buffering" by utilizing shorter routes and pre-positioning the videos close to the consumer, at network edge. To that end, the Kaltura video service can be deployed fully on premise, within the organization to utilize an internal, content delivery network, or on the cloud, as a solution-as-a-service, which outsources storage and processing costs from the organization's data center. Kaltura can also provide a hybrid solution to control the ECM policy, which determines the video documents can be consumed internally only, and which can be consumed from the cloud.
