2 Typica Constructions & U vaues Assumptions Rainscreen façade systems are proprietary, resuting in a wide variation of possibe system buid ups, materia combinations and mechanisms that are used to fi x and support the externa cadding to the wa structure. Fixings and supports penetrating the insuation through to the structure form point therma bridges. The effect on the therma performance of the overa façade system can be signifi cant. Whist the use of therma isoators can assist in mitigating the impact of therma bridging, the type and pacement of fi xings and supports can exacerbate heat f ow through the façade assemby affecting the U vaue. For these reasons, it is advised that the Kingspan Insuation Technica Service Department is contacted for specifi c U vaue cacuations. A cacuations are undertaken using the method detaied in BS / I.S. EN ISO 6946: 2007 (Buiding components & buiding eements. Therma resistance & therma transmittance. Cacuation method), and using the conventions set out in BR 443 (Conventions for U vaue cacuations). 3 Design Considerations Environmenta Impact An Ecoprofi e, certifi ed by BRE Certifi cation to the 2008 BRE Environmenta Profi es Methodoogy, has been created for Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board produced at Kingspan Insuation s Pembridge and Castebayney manufacturing faciities. The BRE has assigned the product a 2008 Green Guide Summary Rating of A+. Environmenta Profies Scheme Certificate Number ENP 500 Responsibe Sourcing Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board produced at Kingspan Insuation s Pembridge manufacturing is certifi ed to BES 6001 (Framework Standard for the Responsibe Sourcing of Construction Products) Exceent. Fire Stop & Cavity Barrier Strategy Current guidance to the Buiding Reguations / Standards shoud be considered with regard to the performance requirements for, and the provision of fi re stops and cavity barriers. A condensation risk anaysis shoud be carried out foowing the procedures set out in BS 5250: 2011 (Code of practice for the contro of condensation in buidings). Lightning Protection Designers shoud give consideration to the requirements of BS / I.S. EN (Protection against ightning). 3

4 Sitework Instaation Since rainscreen façade systems are proprietary and use differing mechanisms to fix and support the externa cadding to the wa structure, instaation guidance shoud be sought from the system manufacturer or suppier. Nevertheess, in the absence of any other guidance the instructions set out beow may be foowed. Insuation boards shoud be instaed break bonded with board edges ighty butted and in such a manner to achieve a cose fit between the board and substrate interface so as to avoid gaps behind or between the boards. Boards shoud be cut neaty around fixings and brackets, so as to avoid gaps. Where sma gaps are unavoidabe, fi gaps with fire rated expanding seaant. The number and type of mechanica fixings required to fix Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board wi vary with the geographica ocation of the buiding, the oca topography, the height and width of the wa concerned, the wa structure, and the type of mechanism being used to attach the cadding system. A minimum of 3.13 fixings per m 2 are required to secure the insuation board to the wa structure. The requirement for additiona fixings shoud be assessed in accordance with BS / I.S. EN : 2005 (Nationa Annex to Eurocode 1. Actions on structures, Genera Actions, Wind Actions). The fixings shoud be eveny distributed over the whoe area of the board. Refer to the coumn on page 5 for recommended fixing patterns. Fixings at board edges must be ocated > 50 mm and < 150 mm from edges and corners of the board and not overap board joints. Refer to: Ejot UK Limited +44 (0) The joints of Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board shoud aways be taped using a 75 mm min. wide suitabe sef adhesive auminium foi tape. In the absence of other protection, exposed edges of Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board shoud be protected by a suitabe sef adhesive auminium foi tape, with a 50 mm min. wide overap onto the insuation board face. 5 Recommended Fixing Patterns The images beow show recommended fi xing patterns, the number of fi xings used and the resuting fi xing density (number of fi xings per m 2 ). Genera Cutting Cutting shoud be carried out either by using a fi ne toothed saw, or by scoring with a sharp knife, snapping the board over a straight edge and then cutting the facing on the other side. Ensure accurate trimming to achieve cose butting joints and continuity of insuation. 9 No. per board (2.4 x 1.2 m board 3.13 fixings / m 2 ) Daiy Working Practice At the competion of each day s work, or whenever work is interrupted for extended periods of time, board edges and joints shoud be protected from incement weather. Ideay, boards shoud be stored inside a buiding. If, however, outside storage cannot be avoided, then the boards shoud be stacked cear of the ground and covered with an opaque poythene sheet or weatherproof tarpauin. Boards that have been aowed to get wet shoud not be used. Heath & Safety Kingspan Insuation products are chemicay inert and safe to use. 12 No. per board (2.4 x 1.2 m board 4.17 fixings / m 2 ) A Safety Information Data Sheet for this product is avaiabe from the Kingspan Insuation website or 13 No. per board (2.4 x 1.2 m board 4.51 fixings / m 2 ) Pease note that the ref ective surfaces on this product are designed to enhance its therma performance. As such, they wi ref ect ight as we as heat, incuding utravioet ight. Therefore, if this product is being instaed during very bright or sunny weather, it is advisabe to wear UV protective sungasses or gogges, and if the skin is exposed for a signifi cant period of time, to protect the bare skin with a UV bock sun cream. The ref ective facings used on this product can be sippery when wet. Therefore, it is recommended that any excess materia shoud be contained to avoid a sip hazard. Warning do not stand on or otherwise support your weight on this product uness it is fuy supported by a oad bearing surface. 5

6 Product Detais The Facings Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board is faced on both sides with a ow emissivity composite foi, autohesivey bonded to the insuation core during manufacture. The Core The core of Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board is a premium performance rigid thermoset fibre free phenoic insuant manufactured with a bowing agent that has zero Ozone Depetion Potentia (ODP) and ow Goba Warming Potentia (GWP). Standards & Approvas Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board is manufactured to the highest standards under a management system certified to ISO 9001: 2008 (Quaity Management Systems. Requirements), ISO 14001: 2004 (Environmenta Management Systems. Requirements), BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 (Occupationa Heath & Safety Management Systems. Requirements) and SO 50001: 2011 (Energy Management Systems. Requirements with guidance for use). The use of Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board, produced at Kingspan Insuation s Pembridge manufacturing faciity, is covered by BBA Certificate 14/5134, and that produced at Kingspan Insuation s Castebayney manufacturing faciity by NSAI Agrément. 14/5134 Certified as LABC Registered Detai EWWS165, Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board is the first insuation board to achieve LABC Registered Detai status as a therma insuation ayer in rainscreen cadding systems. An LABC Registered Detai can significanty reduce the time and costs associated with a construction project. Contact the Kingspan Insuation Technica Service Department for further information. Compressive Strength The compressive strength of Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board typicay exceeds 100 kpa at 10% compression, when tested to BS / I.S. EN 826: 1996 (Therma insuating products for buiding appications. Determination of compression behaviour). Water Vapour Resistance Adjusted for the effect of board joints, the product typicay achieves a resistance far greater than 100 MN.s/g, when tested in accordance with BS EN 12086: 1997 / I.S. EN 12086: 1998 (Therma insuating products for buiding appications. Determination of water vapour transmission properties). Durabiity If correcty instaed, Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board can have an indefinite ife. Its durabiity depends on the supporting structure and the conditions of its use. Resistance to Sovents, Fungi & Rodents The insuation core is resistant to short term contact with petro and with most diute acids, akais and minera ois. However, it is recommended that any spis be ceaned off fuy before the boards are instaed. Ensure that safe methods of ceaning are used, as recommended by the suppiers of the spit iquid. The insuation core is not resistant to some sovent based adhesive systems, particuary those containing methy ethy ketone. Adhesives containing such sovents shoud not be used in association with this product. Damaged boards or boards that have been in contact with harsh sovents or acids shoud not be used. The insuation core and facings used in the manufacture of Kingspan Kootherm K15 Rainscreen Board resist attack by moud and microbia growth, and do not provide any food vaue to vermin. 6

7 Therma Properties The λ vaues and R vaues detaied beow are quoted in accordance with BS / I.S. EN 13166: 2016 (Therma insuation products for buidings Factory made products of phenoic foam (PF) Specification). Therma Conductivity The boards achieve a therma conductivity (λ vaue) of: W/m.K (insuant thickness mm); W/m.K (insuant thickness mm); and W/m.K (insuant thickness 45 mm). Therma Resistance Therma resistance (R vaue) varies with thickness and is cacuated by dividing the thickness of the board (expressed in metres) by its therma conductivity.
