THE COST ADVANTAGE OF UTILIZING WPC SYNGAS FOR CREATING POWER AND LIQUID FUELS WESTINGHOUSE PLASMA GASIFICATION IS THE KEY ENABLING TECHNOLOGY 1000 TPD PLASMA GASIFICATION FACILITY UNIT OPERATING COST (PER MMBTU SYNGAS PRODUCED, NET OF GATE FEE REVENUES) Gate Fee $0/t $40/t $60/t $80/t $100/t CLEANUP Cost of Syngas Production (Per MMBtu) $6.0 $1.75 $0 ($2.40) ($4.75) * Europe, UK, China, India, Japan, Korea, South America NAT GAS / LNG OIL $7.00 to $14.00 / MMBtu $40/bbl to $80/bbl Assumptions: Capital per MMBtu for clean syngas is ~$2/MMBtu Compression to 400psig per MMBtu is ~$0.75/MMBtu The VALUE PROPOSITION of GASIFYING 1000 tpd of WASTE In a period of historically low fossil fuel prices, WPC syngas continues to be a cost effective feedstock for the production of liquid fuels. Gate fees for waste feedstocks offset the cost of syngas production and provide a significant source of revenue for a plasma gasification facility. 5
TEES VALLEY, UK: TV Feedstock Reception Coke & Flux Silos Feedstock Conveyors WPC Gasifier & Auxiliary Modules Syngas Cleanup Train Syngas cleaned and compressed to FT specification Administrative & Control Rooms Gas Turbines 6
TEES VALLEY, UK: ADVANCED GASIFICATION ENERGY FROM WASTE PLANTS Overview: 2,000 tpd of MSW 100MW (gross) electrical base load production; uses combined cycle power block World s first combined cycle EFW facility Update on both phases: TV1 (1,000tpd) completed commissioning and in start up; scheduled to be on line in Q TV2 (1,000tpd) under construction; commissioning in Q1 2016; commercial operation targeted for Q TV1 TV2 WPC Gasifier and Auxiliary Modules installed at TV1 7
THE OPERATION OF THE TEES VALLEY PROJECT DEMONSTRATES: 1. Industrial / Commercial scale volumes of syngas from waste: 2,000tpd of feedstock will produce ~7 Million MMBtu/year of syngas 100MW (gross) electrical, base load production of energy Equivalent production of 1,600 2,000 Bbls/day of liquid fuels 2. The ability to consistently produce syngas at the required specification: To ensure reliability, the syngas must consistently meet the fuel specification of the gas turbine Gas turbine syngas specification is similar to liquids conversion technology syngas specification 3. The ability to create negative to low cost syngas from feedstock's Tipping fee revenues reduce the operating cost of making clean syngas 8
NEXT STEP APPLICATIONS: REFUELING, LIQUID FUELS & HAZARDOUS WASTE SOLUTIONS
GE TECHNICAL / ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY HIGHLIGHTS Working with GE, WPC syngas is a suitable fuel for GE s Frame 6, 7 and 9 series gas turbines: GE gas turbines will not experience a de rate when operating on a blend or at 100% WPC Syngas In fact, the increased volume of WPC Syngas will increase efficiency and generate additional electrical power vs. natural gas 10
INTEGRATED WASTE TO LIQUIDS SOLUTION S Westinghouse Plasma Process RES Kaidi Process ~3.8 Million MMBtu/yr ( Btu/scf) ~310,000 Bbls/yr Assumptions: 1100tpd 6200 Btu/lb Other downstream liquids technologies Westinghouse Plasma: WPC is a provider of syngas for the biofuels industry WPC syngas is a suitable fuel for GE s 6,7 and 9 series gas turbines Offers an integrated waste to diesel solution through Sunshine Kaidi Wuhan, China: Biomass to Liquids, 150 tpd RES Kaidi: Demonstrated over 5 years at ~10 BPD capacity, 14,000 hours of operation, at 4,000 hours of continuous operation Premium quality, clean burning diesel and jet fuels, finished FT Diesel Conforms to ASTM D975 FT aviation turbine fuel meets all specifications for ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) Evaluated by United States Air Force, Commercial test flight with United Airlines; approval from U.S. Federal Aviation Administration 11
TURNKEY HAZARDOUS WASTE SOLUTION S Commercial operations In India (since 2008). In China (since 2013). Flexible operations Processed over 600+ hazardous waste streams since Syngas can be utilized for steam, power or process fuel. Turnkey modular facility Can be co located with existing industrial facilities. Facility footprint: ~2,000 m 2 Reduces project time lines and increases economic returns. Environmentally sustainable Slag has commercial uses (construction aggregate, rock wool insulation, etc.) WPC s high temperature gasification process does not create furans or dioxins. SHANGHAI, CHINA MEDICAL WASTE & FLY ASH, 30 TPD Successfully completed 120+ day in operation. PUNE, INDIA HAZARDOUS WASTE, 78 TPD Processed over 600+ different waste streams. Successfully operating over the past 7+ years. 12
THE WRAP UP Plasma gasification now has processing capabilities ranging from 25 to 1,000 ton per day in a single reactor Due to tipping fees of some feedstocks, plasma gasification produces zero/negative cost syngas Plasma gasification takes multiple waste streams to create syngas production that can be converted to higher value end products LIQUID FUELS ~365,000 Bbls/yr (OR) WASTE 350,000 tpy SYNGAS ~3.5 Million MMBtu/yr ELECTRICITY 50 MW (gross) base load production 13
