Lincs Offshore Wind Farm Ørsted
Welcome to Lincs Lincs Offshore Wind Farm has been fully operational since Situated off the east coast of England, the project comprises 75 turbines with a combined total capacity of 270 MW. Ørsted is a renewable energy company that takes tangible action to create a world that runs entirely on green energy. We have invested significantly in the UK, where we develop, construct and operate offshore wind farms and innovative waste-toenergy technology. We also provide smart energy products to our commercial and industrial customers. 3 Where is Lincs? Lincs Offshore Wind Farm is situated 8 km off the east coast of the UK, near Skegness in Lincolnshire. It sits to the east side of the Round 1 Lynn and Inner Dowsing offshore wind farms. N W E Grimsby S Chapel St Leonards Skegness Lincs Race Bank Boston Blakeney Point Cromer Walpole King s Lynn Lincs Offshore Wind Farm Cable Corridor / Route Onshore Substation O&M Base
Ownership The project is owned 25% by Ørsted, 25% by Siemens Gamesa Project Ventures and 50% by Centrica. How big is it? The area covered is 35 km 2. This is equal to 5,000 Blundell Park pitches, home of Grimsby Town F.C. 94m 155m 177m Mean Sea Level Grimsby Dock Tower Humber Bridge concrete towers 3.6 MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbine
How much electricity does it produce? The project has a capacity of 270 MW. It provides enough power for over 240,000 homes. 1 What has been the impact on the local economy? During construction Lincs provided work for up to 250 people working onshore and offshore. Approximately 100 jobs have been created to maintain the Lincs Offshore Wind Farm, largely from the local area, and more staff are employed during the peak summer periods when wind conditions are low and optimal for maintenance works. The base is home to around 45 full time staff, this includes 12 office staff and 33 technicians. How do we maintain the turbines? The Lincs Offshore Wind Farm is adjacent to Centrica s Lynn and Inner Dowsing offshore wind farms, and operations for the two farms are based out of the Grimsby operations base. Operations and Maintenance of the wind farm is in transition to the Ørsted service provider. This is expected to complete by February We have based this on a load factor of 42% and a household consumption of 4.1 MWh per year. Source: DECC, 2015, Average electricity consuption per UK household in 2014 (with temperature factor applied).
Project Timeline 2004 Centrica Energy acquired the Crown Estate lease to develop an offshore wind farm at Lincs under Round 2 from RES October 2008 Approval for consent was granted October 2009 Final investment decision was made April 2010 Onshore construction began March 2011 Offshore construction began April 2012 Established connection to the grid August 2012 First power August 2013 Inauguration
What makes this project special? The project was one of the first wind farms in the UK to use the larger diameter rotor (120m) version of the Siemens Gamesa 3.6 MW turbine. Lincs Offshore Wind Farm was also the first wind farm to utilise a conical foundation and monopile connection to improve stability across the life of the Project. Ørsted are delighted to be taking over as Operations and Maintenance (O&M) service provider to Lincs. It will be the first time we take over O&M of an operating wind farm which we have not construted ourselves. We will work to ensure these turbines are well maintained to produce clean green energy for the UK.
