3 A. Location & Climate Sierra Leone is on the west coast of Africa An area of 72,325 km 2 between latitudes north, longitudes 10-3 west. Coastline is 560km Bordered in the northeast by the Republic of Guinea, in the south and southeast by the Republic of Liberia and in the west by the North Atlantic Ocean. Tropical wet climate with distinct dry and wet seasons

Ratification and NCC Documents developed Sierra Leone (SL) signed and ratified UNFCCC in June 1995 and Kyoto Protocol in June 2005 To meet its commitments to articles 4 & 12 of the UNFCCC, SL has developed Initial National Communications(INC) From Feb 2003 to June 2006 National Adaptation Programme for Action(NAPA) From March 2006 December 2008 Working on the Second National Communications

Environmental Protection Agency Sierra Leone s mandate: Coordination and monitoring the implementation of national environmental policies, programmes and projects Issuance of EIA Licences Development of NCC Policy and Establishment of NSCC 2. National Climate Change Coordinating Committee(NCCC) established on 10 th May 20011

6 Specifically, the NCCC to : Provide guidance & direction to the implementation of climate change related activities in the country; Develop national climate change policy and strategies in line with the National Agenda for Change-(PRSP 11) to address climate change problems and issues; Facilitate the establishment of a National Secretariat for Climate Change tobe house in EPA-SL; Resource mobilization for climate financing; Advocate e for the integration of climate change into the national planning processes and Advocate for effective private sector participation p in addressing climate change.

7 Membership consists of Executive Chairperson of EPA-SL Deputy Financial Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Economic Development Director of Forestry Division, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security Director of Meteorological Department, Ministry of Transport and Aviation Senior Environmental Adviser, Ministry of Energy & Water Resources Director of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Ministry of Fisheries & Marine Resources Director of Disaster Management Department, Office of National Security, State House National Project Coordinator, Climate Change Project National Coordinator of the Environmental Forum for Action
