2 Overview of Active Report Training Objectives Through theory, demonstration and exercises introduce students to the different Active Report Components Utilize a Business Scenario to demonstrate how to start building Active Report

3 What are Active Reports? An Active Report is a single html archived file.mht format that contains images and data all in one file that can be viewed offline Active Reports Are interactive and portable Active Reports are build differently than other Report Studio Reports but use the same basic components. lists, crosstabs, charts, etc.

4 Active Reports Key Features Better Performance Active Report output is a stand-alone, self-contained file. This allows users to fully interact with all of the content without being dependent on connectivity to the application/database servers Improved report performance no server connections means interaction with the report is instantaneous Highly Interactive Active Report controls enable a new level of interactive behavior providing an engaging end user experience. The flexibility provided by the report controls allows dynamic data drilldowns

5 Active Reports Key Features Portable Active Reports can be accessed regardless of the users location, connectivity or consumption device. Distribution Active Report output can be distributed using the existing scheduling and ing functionality already available in Cognos

7 Active Reports Components Standard Cognos Reporting Objects Lists, crosstabs, charts, etc. that present business data Standard Cognos Formatting Objects Tables, Blocks, etc. that control where reporting objects are positioned Selection Controls Controls are used to manage selection and navigation within Active Report components Decks / Tabs Decks and Tabs are the main container in an active report. They are used to hold the lists/crosstabs/charts that present business data Variables Variables are used to control and communicate between the different Active Report Components on a report

8 Active Reports Static vs Dynamic Each of the Active Report Control has two versions: Static Allows report author to enter list of values Dynamic Allows report author to use data item to generate a list of values

10 Scenario: Project List by Type Create an active report to display all the projects within the organization by its project type. For each project, display the Phase, Start Date, End Date and Budget. Group the projects by project type and add a drop-down menu for quick project type filtering.
