Ceiling diffusers, grilles and registers shall be of steel construction in accordance with the roof/ceiling assembly as detailed in the UL Fire Resistance Index. C. 2 D. Sidewall Return and Exhaust Registers: Titus, Model 350-FL OBD, plaster frame. Extruded aluminum, removable core, with baked-on, off white enamel finish. When installed below seven feet above the finished floor shall heavy duty grille similar to Titus Model 33R, with maximum 1/2" spacing. Unless noted on drawings, blades shall be parallel to the floor. E. Ceiling Supply Air Registers and Grilles 1. Architectural plaque diffuser: Square deflection plate centered in a square housing, Titus OMNI. For diffusers noted on drawings as 2 or 3 way blow, provide blank off plates in diffuser. 2. Coordinate ceiling device frame type with architectural ceiling type. 3. Provide ceiling diffusers complete with opposed blade volume dampers where diffuser is installed in inaccessible ceilings. Do not furnish volume damper for diffusers installed in accessible ceilings or exposed diffusers. F. Linear Bar Diffusers: 1. Titus, Model CT-541 frame 14,Type C fastening, continuous bar type, extruded aluminum, 1/2" spacing, 1/4" bars, 15 degrees deflection, with or without volume dampers as noted on Drawings. G. Linear Slot Diffusers: 1. Titus ML-37, ML-38, or ML-39, as indicated on Drawings. 2. Pattern Controller: Full 180 degree pattern controller to adjust both air direction and volume. 3. Borders and mounting: Provide frame and border as required for specific conditions or as specifically indicated on Drawings. 4. Construction: Extruded aluminum with steel pattern controllers. 5. Finish: #25 White border and black pattern controllers. 6. Provide with Clear anodized aluminum finish. H. Ceiling Laminar Flow Supply Diffusers: 1. O.R., Cathology Lab, and Isolation Room supply diffusers (no HEPA filter): Titus TLF, for low velocity, unidirectional flow. Provide with internal baffles, volume damper in neck, safety chain. Perforated face shall be removable from room. Diffuser shall be nominal 24"x 48" face area, 10" neck and shall deliver air into room at 25 fpm through gross area of face at maximum of 0.039" W.C.s.p. and maximum NC of 19 (based on room absorption of 10 db, re 10 (-12) watts). 2. Coordinate ceiling device frame type with architectural ceiling type. 3. Provide ceiling diffusers complete with opposed blade volume dampers where diffuser is installed in inaccessible ceilings. Do not furnish volume damper for diffusers installed in accessible ceilings or exposed diffusers. I. Ceiling Exhaust and Return Registers: 1. Titus Model 50-F, 1/2" egg-crate aluminum with baked-on, off-white enamel finish, for operating rooms and smoke evacuation. 2. Titus Model OMNI, architectural square panel ceiling panel. 3. Provide register complete with opposed blade volume dampers where installed in inaccessible ceilings. Do not furnish volume damper for registers installed in accessible ceilings or exposed registers. 4. Coordinate ceiling device frame type with architectural ceiling type. 5. Provide a minimum 6" deep square-to-round transition at connections to return/exhaust devices. Volume dampers shall not extend into transition when fully open Page 2
3 J. Air Troffers: Furnished under Division 26 for installation and balancing under this Division. Furnish and install supply and return air boots under this Division. 1. Provide Titus Model LTTI externally insulated supply air boot with capacity as scheduled on drawings. Static pressure drop shall not exceed.20" WC and NC shall not exceed Provide Titus Model LTTRI, externally insulated return air boot with capacity as scheduled on drawings. Static pressure drop shall not exceed.05" WC and NC shall not exceed 35. Titus, model 300-RL with OBD 2.02 FIRE AND SMOKE DAMPERS A. Acceptable manufacturers: 1. Ruskin 2. Air Balance 3. Greenheck 4. Nailor 5. Potttorff B. Damper fire ratings: See drawings for fire ratings of walls and floors in which dampers are installed. Coordinate damper fire rating with wall and floor rating. Dampers with asbestos paper or coating are unacceptable. C. Fusible link: Provide fusible links which will melt at 165 degrees causing damper to close and lock in closed position. D. Provide type "C" multi-leaf fire dampers rated for use in dynamic systems with airflow up to 4000 fpm at 6" w.c. Construct dampers of steel with rust resistant finish. E. Smoke dampers: 1. Low pressure duct (2" pressure class and lower): Ruskin SD Medium pressure duct (4" - 6" pressure class): Ruskin SD Minimum Class II rated 4. Operators: Electric. 5. Install and mount qualified operator at time of fabrication by damper manufacturer. Operator shall be mounted out of airstream in accessible location. Furnish damper and operator by a single entity meeting applicable UL 555S qualifications for both damper and operator. Damper operator shall be adequate size to open or close damper in 15 seconds. F. Combination Fire and Smoke Dampers: 1. Low pressure ductwork: Ruskin Model FSD Medium pressure ductwork: Ruskin Model FSD Minimum Class II rated 4. Operator: Electric.5. Install and mount qualified operator at time of fabrication by damper manufacturer. Furnish damper and operator by a single entity meeting applicable UL 555S qualifications for both damper and operator. Damper operator shall be of adequate size to open or close damper in 15 seconds. G. Sleeves: 1. Unless otherwise required by the authority having jurisdiction, sleeves for fire dampers and fire and smoke combination dampers shall be the rigid type of construction recommended in Schedule 2 of SMACNA Publication for "Fire Damper and Heat Stop Guide for Air Handling Systems". Use 16 gauge for ducts 24" or less in diameter or either rectangular dimension and 14 for ducts over 24". Provide minimum 18" long sleeves. Coordinate required length with wall thicknesses Page 3
4 2. Conform to the requirements of UL 555S. Test damper and operator as a unit to comply with UL 555S. 3. Install 1-1/2"x1-1/2"x1/8" angle bar on four sides of sleeves and both sides of wall. 4. Fasten angles to sleeve only. 5. Do not fasten angles to the wall. H. Maximum pressure drop for combination fire/smoke dampers: 1. Supply ducts: 0.25" at 2500 FPM 2. Return and exhaust ducts: 0.15 at 1500 FPM I. Provide integral end switches with damper as required by control drawings. J. Provide UL listed ceiling fire dampers at ceiling diffusers, grilles, and registers in accordance with UL Fire Resistive Index AIR BLENDERS A. Acceptable manufacturers: 1. Blender Products, Inc. 2. Kees, Inc. B. Provide static mixing device in mixed air plenums for A/C systems as indicated on drawings. C. Type, size, pressure drop and capacity as indicated on drawings. D. Minimum.080" thick aluminum or 16 gauge galvanized steel with all welded construction. E. Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. F. Given the following entering conditions, mixing device shall mix the two airstreams to yield a maximum standard deviation of 6 degrees from the mixed air temperature. 1. Outside Air: 25% at 0 degrees 2. Return Air: 75% at 75 degrees 3. Mixed Air: 55 degrees 2.04 ACCESS DOORS A. Acceptable manufacturers: 1. Ruskin, Model ADH22 2. Venco CAD Flexmaster (The Inspector Series) B. Provide insulated doors in ductwork for access to service equipment such as automatic dampers, fire dampers, smoke dampers, humidifiers duct coils (each side), casing mounted coils (each side), filters (each side), duct mounted smoke detectors duct mounted air flow measuring stations (each side) and elsewhere as noted on drawings. C. Size access doors as follows: 1. Duct Sizes under 12": Door sized sufficient to service equipment or replace fusible link 2. Duct sizes 12" to 20": 12"x12" door 3. Duct sizes 20" to 36": 18"x18" door 4. Duct sizes 36" and above: 24"x24" door D. Apparatus casing access doors: Prehung door frame assemblies, size 22" x 58" Ruskin ADW Page 4
5 E. Provide reinforced wire glass view windows, 12"x12", in access doors at humidifiers. F. Use double panel construction, two sheets of at least 24 gauge galvanized steel with 1" thick insulation between panels. G. Mount doors in a rigid frame of at least 22 gauge formed galvanized steel or aluminum. H. Use angle iron bracing as required to make the door frame a rigid assembly. I. Provide latches that permit easy removal of access door while maintaining positive closing and minimum leakage. J. Provide sponge rubber gaskets for all doors. K. In accordance with NFPA 90A, identify each access door with 1/2" high stenciled letters as 'Fire Damper', 'Smoke Damper', or 'Combination Fire/Smoke Damper' LOUVERS AND LOUVERED PENTHOUSES A. Verify size, location, and placement of louvers prior to fabrication; coordinate field measurements and shop drawings and shop assembly to minimize field adjustments, splicing, mechanical joints and field assembly of units. B. Preassemble louvers in sections as large as practical. C. Exterior louvers and screens: Dowco Corporation, Model DBE-04 or DBE-06 (to match wall thickness), Penn Airstream, Model M44 or M63 (to match wall thickness Ruskin Model ELF-375D or ELF-6375D, Airolite, Construction Specialties, or Louvers and Dampers, Inc. D. Material: Extruded aluminum with 12 gauge,.081" thick aluminum blades and frame and welded construction. E. Blade angle: Minimum 35 degrees from horizontal. F. Use blades minimum 4" or 6" deep, blades to match wall thickness, with drain gutter on each blade and downspouts in jams and mullions. G. Set blades on 3" or 4-1/2" centers. H. Provide internally braced corners with caulking slots. I. Provide slidable interlocked mullions with a provision for expansion and contraction. J. Design structural supports to carry a wind load of not less than 20 pounds per square foot. K. Provide bird screen, 1/2" square mesh of 16 gauge,.051", expanded flattened aluminum. Screens shall be on the interior side of louver and shall be in a removable frame. L. Provide formed metal sills of the same gauge and material as the louver, sized to lap under the louver sill and over the outside edge of the wall. M. Louver finish: As selected by Architect from submitted color samples from: Duranotic finish. Mill finish for painting. Clear anodized finish Page 5
6 N. Provide louvers with the AMCA Certified Ratings Seal for Air Performance and Water Penetration. O. Size louvers as shown on the drawings. P. Select intake louvers at or below the "Point of Zero Water Penetration". Q. Do not exceed 0.2" of water pressure drop across louvers. R. Acceptable manufacturers for louvered penthouses are: Dowco. Penn Airstream. Ruskin. 1. Airolite 2. Construction Specialties 3. Louvers and Dampers, Inc. S. Submit for review finish on louvered penthouses FLEXIBLE DUCT A. Acceptable manufacturers: 1. If they meet the requirements of these specifications, products of the following manufacturers shall be acceptable: Flexmaster U.S.A.; Thermaflex; Omniair (ATCO); J. P. Lanburn. B. For hospital critical areas including Surgery, Recovery, Labor and Delivery, Nursery, LDRP, ICU, CCU and Trauma, flexible duct shall be corrugated aluminum type with water and airtight mechanically formed seams. Duct shall be fabricated without the use of adhesives or sealants. Omniair 1800, Flexmaster TLM, or equal by listed manufacturer. C. For other area, flexible duct construction shall consist of a triple lamination of aluminum foil, aluminized polyester and fiberglass mechanically locked to a corrosion resistant galvanized steel helix. Omniair 1200, Flexmaster 5M, or equal by listed manufacturer. D. Characteristics of flexible duct to air terminals and all distribution devices: 1. Approved as UL Class 1 air duct. 2. Flame spread less than 25, smoke developed rating less than Insulation shall have a maximum thermal conductivity of 0.17 BTU -in/hr - ft2 - degree F at 75 degrees mean temperature, or as required to meet energy code. 4. Do not exceed five feet of length. 5. Flexible duct shall meet standards of local building code. 6. Jacket shall be fire retardant, reinforced, metalized type. 7. Duct shall be suitable for 6" positive pressure, 1" negative pressure, velocities up to 4,000 FPM. E. Seal off the insulation jacket at its ends and at joints with mastic, Hardcast, or similar material. Replace flex if jacket is punctured. F. Complete insulation coverage up to the boxes. G. Do not route flexible duct through corridor walls, fire or smoke partitions. H. No bends shall be made in flexible duct with the center line radius less than one and one-half duct diameter and only one bend may occur per four foot length of duct material. I. Install UL listed flexible duct connectors made of 28 ounce, heavy glass fabric double coated with neoprene between duct and fan discharge Page 6
7 2.07 FLEXIBLE CONNECTORS A. Install UL listed flexible duct connectors made of 28 oz, heavy glass fabric double coated with neoprene between duct and fan discharge. B. Install UL listed flex connections to fan inlet and outlets as shown on drawings. C. Connections to be a minimum of 3 inches wide, crimped into metal edging strip, and air tight. Connections to have adequate flexibility and width to allow for thermal expansion/contraction, vibration of connected equipment, and other movement. D. Coated glass fiber fabric shall be used for all applications. For inside applications other than corrosive environments, fume exhaust, or kitchen exhaust material shall be double coated with neoprene, air and water tight, suitable for temperatures between -10 degrees F and 200 degrees F, having a nominal weight of 30 ounces per square yard. For outdoor applications other than corrosive environments, fume exhaust, or kitchen exhaust material shall be double coated with Hypalon, air and water tight, suitable for temperatures between -10 degrees F and 250 degrees F, having a nominal weight of 26 ounces per square yard. If they meet the requirements of this specification, products of Ventfabrics, Inc. shall be acceptable. (Ventglas and Ventlon). E. For hot corrosive environments or fume exhaust applications indoors or outdoors, material shall be coated with Teflon that is air and water tight, suitable for temperatures between -20 degrees F and 500 degrees F, having a nominal weight of 14 ounces per square yard. If it meets the requirements of this specification, Ventfabrics "Ventel" shall be acceptable. F. Flexible connectors shall not be used in kitchen exhaust ducts MANUAL VOLUME DAMPERS A. Type: Opposed blade. B. Material: Steel, 3V type blades mounted in steel channel frame. C. Shaft: 1/2" square rod operator with end bearings and gasket seal at duct penetrations. Terminate shaft in damper frame with bushings. D. Operator: Locking quadrant handle with damper position indicator and insulation stand off mounting bracket for externally insulated ductwork. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A. Install sheet metal accessories in locations shown on drawings. B. Install accessories in accordance with manufacturer's published recommendations as well as applicable sections of SMACNA manual and other standards set forth in Part 1. C. Provide all screws, bolts, nuts, inserts, and material required for attaching sheet metal to duct, walls, floors, and ceilings. D. Where diffusers or grilles and registers are not provided with volume dampers, install spin-in fitting with balancing damper in duct runout Page 7
8 3.02 TESTING A. Check work for satisfactory installation and performance. B. Insure that adequate access does in fact exist for fire and smoke dampers and that damper operator motors are not hindered in operation by proximity to walls or other objects. C. Provide label on each access door for fire, fire/smoke or smoke dampers with the date inspected, the name of certified technician that inspected the damper, the damper pass status, and the damper identification number provided in close out documentation. D. Check duct connections at access doors for air leakage or condensation. Correct conditions found. END OF SECTION Page 8
