6 Strategy: SWOT Analysis Strengths Strong research background and good track record of managing research projects and schemes. Faculty members with international recognition. Strong affiliations and bilateral and exchange agreements (especially in Southeastern Europe and Mediterranean regions). Weaknesses Lack of experience in innovation policies and IP rights management. Opportunities Increasing demand for joint research activities from the neighboring countries. Research focus within the EC priorities. Increasing public awareness for green policies and products. Threats Insufficient public financing towards the growth of the required infrastructure and advanced technologies. Competitiveness for R&D activities. 6

7 Strategy The SASC Group aims to: Develop interdisciplinary research projects in the field of Agrifood Supply Chains based on the common efforts of the three partnering labs; Attract external funding (private/public) at the national or EU level (HORIZON2020, National Programs for Rural Development, National Strategic Reference Framework, etc.); Improve the economic, social, and cultural welfare in the wider North Greece region, which has a significant primary agricultural production; Establish AUTh as a multidisciplinary research center in the field of agrifood supply chain management; Provide multifaceted benefits to the KEDEK center by focusing to the fields of (i) Health, food, agriculture and biotechnology, and (ii) Sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems. 7

8 GREEN-AgriChains Ex-post Evaluation Research personnel: highly motivated, well qualified and scientifically competent... the GAC project has been a well-functioning model for interdisciplinary research.... Infrastructure and equipment: need for new analytical equipment, and the replacement and maintenance of existing equipment.... Management structures: KEDEK provides an excellent frame for better cooperation and coordination, both regarding interdisciplinary research itself and the possibility to prepare collaborative, interdisciplinary project proposals. Research results and research agenda: researchers increased their publication record the dissemination of the results was of a high standard the Laboratories capitalized on previous good collaborations.... Research network: the GAC project led to a strong network of partnering universities, RTD institutes, industries, sectors and associations there is tremendous potential for further connectivity at national level, as well as EU-international level. 10 Objectives: Innovation Capacity Building by Strengthening Expertise and Research in the Design, Planning and Operations of Green Agrifood Supply Chains Develop A.U.Th. s research excellence in the areas of Agrifood Supply Chain Management and Logistics. Reinforce and consolidate A.U.Th. s overall research potential in Agrifood Logistics Management. Develop strategic partnerships with international, well acknowledged research entities. Promote synergies with European stakeholders and policy-makers. Assist the Agrifood sector SMEs in the Southeastern European and Mediterranean Region in becoming more competitive, by adopting new SCM techniques and logistics practices developed through research. Foster transnational cooperation in the Agrifood sector between A.U.Th. and the participating organizations. Enable a comprehensive approach towards the Agrifood Supply Chain by promoting Agrifood waste management issues. Unlock the full research potential of A.U.Th. for a better integration in the enlarged European Research Area. Increase the overall capacity of the Southeastern European and Mediterranean region in enhancing science and technology based economic development, focused on the Agrifood Industry. 13 Objectives: Feasibility Study on the Establishment of Dual Vocational Education and Training in Greece in the Transport and Logistics Sectors Potential analysis of the transport and logistics sectors in Greece for determining the preconditions to introduce company-oriented initial vocational training Concept for a German-Greek cooperation project on dual vocational training in Greek schools and logistics enterprises.
