7 Protected territories in Slovakia Specially protected territories: 9 national parks, 14 protected landscape areas 703 small-area protected territories Forest ecosystems are dominant and extraordinarily valuable part of this system. Total area of fthe protected t territories is 1,105 ths ha, (23.1% of the territory of SR or 55% of the forest land area) It is high above European and global average This area will even increase after declaration of NATURA 2000 territories.
8 Vision and future of forests in Slovakia Forests for society: long-term multifunctional forestry fulfilling present and future societal needs and supporting forest-related livelihoods Without economically viable forest management it is impossible to secure sustainable forest management and utilize multiple benefits of forests.
9 National Forest Programme of the Slovak Republic NFP SR contains 5St Strategict Objectives: Support of ecological forest management Improvement and protection of the environment Improving quality of life Increasing long-term competitiveness Strengthening co-operation, coordination and communication 18 thematic priorities and 55 framework goals Concept of Agrarian Development for the years part Forestry (approved: 2006) Strategy of Forestry Development (approved: 2008) Programme of Rural Development
10 Organizational and institutional structure Forestry in Slovakia is integrated t in Ministry i of Agriculture of the SR. Institutions established by the MA of the SR: FORESTS of the SR, state enterprise State Forests TANAP Military Forests and Estates, t s. e., National Forest Centre Forest Research Institute Associations of non-state forest owners Institute for Forest Consulting and Education they are represented by the Council of the Non-state Institute for Forest Forest Owner Resources and Information Associations Forest Management Institute
11 National Forest Centre Forest Research Institute FRI is the oldest institute of NFC Its history dates from the end of 19 th century The first research station was established in yeas ago In Central Research Station became a member of IUFRO. Its present time main duties: 1. Research (60%) 2. Services (professional assistance for the MA SR (40%)
12 National Forest Centre Institute for Forest Consulting and deducation Institute mainly focuses on consultancy and education of employees in the forest sector, public relations, forest pedagogy, projects funded by EU s structural funds.
13 National Forest Centre Institute for Forest Resources and dinformation It mainly secures: Creation and administration of forestry information system Creation of national thematic map set with forestry layer Forestry market information system Preparation of background papers and co-operation in Land Use Reform
