Narec in conjunction with its partners can offer clients wave and tidal site surveyancing services covering the supply of instrumentation, marine operations, data analysis and reporting. Narec can provide: Provision of waverider buoys and support equipment Deployment and recovery of waverider buoys in selected locations Data analysis of recorded wave resource Site characterisation report In addition to collecting wind resource data Narec s offshore anemometry platform, located 3 nautical miles off Blyth can also be used for research purposes to demonstrate the reliability, data availability and performance of products offshore in a remote environment. The platform is fitted with the latest technologies and can be used for: Testing and verification of remote sensor technologies, eg. fixed and floating LiDAR Validating new devices against traditional methods Trialling, installation and monitoring of new technologies, processes and instrumentation Wind resource data and provision of resource assessment reporting at varying heights Data collection and provision of environmental and marine conditions over given time durations Data collection and provision of reports on bat, bird and marine wildlife at the site Doppler frames in transit to deployment site

This can include preliminary site identification, area wind resource evaluation, development and implementation of resource measurement programmes, turbine performance simulation, acoustic and environmental monitoring, and turbine micrositing. ONSHORE LIDAR NOISE TESTING SMALL WIND TURBINE AND MCS Narec s onshore lidar provides wind data for the Blyth coastal onshore locality. It is a continuous wave lidar system measuring wind resource data at heights of 21m, 65m, 100m, 135m and 170m. The unit has a fixed power supply and hard wired data connection. Narec s onshore lidar can be used to provide: Wind resource assessment reports at varying heights Data on environmental conditions over given time durations Licensing of wind resource data to be used for research and commercial purposes 80M ONSHORE TUBULAR METEOROLOGICAL MAST Narec s 80m high onshore tubular meteorological mast can be leased on a long term basis to carry out full onshore site wind resource assessments. Narec also offers a support team for installation and monitoring throughout the duration of the lease. Noise measuring equipment can be used to conduct detailed noise assessments under various site conditions to class 1 accuracy. Part of the test can include a tonal assessment, involving a frequency spectrum analysis to adequately determine the type of noise content and its effect on humans. Acoustic measurements using the equipment can be used for environmental and occupational purposes, as well as wind turbine tests. In relation to small wind testing, measurements at a range of wind speeds whilst the turbine is turning and in a stationary position can be taken to compile a detailed noise test. Narec is able to provide: Noise equipment and technical support on site Assessment of the test site in accordance with IEC standards Analysis of the resulting noise data Test report to the identified standards Narec performs small wind testing in accordance with the BWEA Small Wind Turbine Performance and Safety Standard and the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). Narec is able to conduct the following: Power performance test Acoustic measurement test Structural and durability assessment Power degradation assessment Safety test verification Site terrain and obstacle assessments in accordance with IEC Load case design verification

Our experience and specialist equipment is used to gather data and evidence before undergoing rigorous processing and analysis. These investigations determine and generate a detailed understanding of the failure mechanism complete with recommendations in order to deliver solutions to clients and minimise operational downtime. 3D MEASUREMENT AND IMAGING THERMAL IMAGING LASER TOTAL STATION Narec has a high speed, portable 3D measurement and imaging scanner for the measurement, documentation and data acquisition of large objects, spaces and buildings. The scanner has a range of 120m and can plot millions of coordinates to generate a high quality 3D impression of surroundings. Site investigations, can include: Dimensional process and analysis, quality control, inspections and 3D modelling Forensic analysis and understanding of failure mechanisms of the object or surroundings Data analysis, improvement recommendations and reporting on the measures performed Detailed 3D CAD image outputs of the results Our engineers and thermal imaging camera can be used to investigate overheating concerns such as excessive heat generated by: Transformers, pumps and motors Cables due to excessive load Cable joints due to poor connection Busbars due to excessive load and/or poor connections Switchgear due to excessive loadings Narec can provide engineering staff and equipment to perform: Land topographical testing for small wind turbines in accordance with IEC to measure the topography of the land and check for any significant disturbances, obstacles and obstructions that may impede a wind turbines operation as well as determining the wind flow. FAILURE INVESTIGATION Narec provides an independent service to support system owners and suppliers with failure investigations across all aspects of wind turbine development, infrastructure and operations. Our ASTA Intertek recognised laboratories are equipped with an extensive suite of specialist electrical, material, mechanical and environmental research and testing facilities. We provide specialist consulting and site test services, assisting clients to develop products which cater for the needs of developing power systems and to explore life extension opportunities for ageing assets. Condition Assessment G59 AND G83 TESTING Narec performs testing of inverters in accordance with G59 and G83 engineering recommendations, and can provide a test certificate at the conclusion of successful testing. Narec also provides an onsite service for testing, witnessed by the relevant Distribution Network Operator (DNO) PORTABLE DAQ CHASSIS - DATA ACQUISITION Narec provides engineering staff and multi channels data acquisition equipment to monitor the operation and/or test a client s device. Resulting data can be provided direct to the client in a raw file format, or can be analysed and formatted to the client s requirements to compile a detailed report outlining the results of the testing carried out. CURRENT AND HIGH VOLTAGE Narec s electrical engineers and specialist equipment can be used to operate and perform the following tests: Megger insulation tester Portable HV insulation resistance measurement testing equipment for the measurement of HV insulation integrity. Ductor resistivity measurement A conductor resistivity measurement meter test for the confirmation of joint conductivity. HV testing Narec has a range of HV testing equipment which can be used onsite and offsite. Equipment includes: 70kV DC voltage test set 50kV AC test transformers 10kV lightning impulse generator 75kV dielectric test set High current equipment Narec has a range of high current testing equipment which can be used onsite and offsite. Equipment includes: 3000A single phase induction high current test transformer 1250A mobile transformers (x3) HV PD measurement equipment Onsite measurement service of HV PD equipment. Omicron Current Transformer (CT) test set Full analysis and accuracy analysis of current transformers. Narec specialists visit operational sites to assess the condition of equipment and systems. They can also investigate the root cause and fingerprinting of associated problems. PORTABLE PD MEASUREMENT Narec can provide engineering staff and equipment to analyse existing electrical installations to determine if any breakdown in insulation is occurring resulting in partial discharge. OIL SAMPLING, TESTING AND PROCESSING Narec can provide oil sampling, testing, analysis and interpretation of the results to predict equipment serviceable life, condition monitoring assessments and systems investigations using its materials testing laboratory. In addition, its portable oil processing unit is able to offer onsite and offsite transformer oil processing services and analysis for transmission and distribution (T&D) equipment, such as: bushings, switchgear and small transformers.
