1 II International Conference of Renewable Energies The awakening of a Giant 4 th -5 th April 2018, Barranquilla, Colombia Hilton Garden Inn, Barranquilla, Colombia Hosted by World Energy Council Colombia. Association of Renewable Energies Colombia- SERColombia Since the seventies, environmental concerns have been piling up in the global agendas. Sustainable development and climate change became priorities, and lead to the consolidation of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in Subsequently, at the COP21 held in 2015, governments committed to limit the increase in global average temperature to less than 2 C above pre-industrial levels and to continue their efforts to limit the increase in temperature to 1.5 C. This commitment will require 3% annual global rates of carbon reduction. How, when and the strategies taken to address these commitments, will define the impact on energy demand and the composition of the countries' energy mix. Within COP21 commitments, Colombia agreed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to 2030 by 20%. Although Colombia is not a country with abundant carbon emissions, due to the predominance of hydro generation, its electrical mix is highly vulnerable to extreme weather events like droughts. This vulnerability imposes the need to diversify the electricity generation mix, through the integration of non-conventional renewable energy sources that provide complementarity to the existing generation sources. In accordance with the need to develop low carbon energy systems, non-conventional renewable energies became a priority for energy leaders. The Association of Renewable Energies Colombia -SERColombia, has worked to promote the effective inclusion of nonconventional renewable energies, which in addition to contributing to environmental compliance bring economic benefits that materialize in tariffs substantially cheaper for end users. These benefits have been evidenced by countries such as Mexico, Argentina and Chile in which the prices of non-conventional renewable energy range between USD 20 / MWh and USD 42 / MWh.
2 The formation and implementation of flexible policies and regulations that promote investments in non-conventional renewable energies and their integration into the national electricity system are key for Colombia to respond to the challenges posed by the balanced of its energy trilemma and the compliance of the commitments acquired in the Paris Agreement. April 4 th Registration Opening Welcome Words: José Antonio Vargas Lleras, Chairman of World Energy Council Colombia Alejandro Lucio Chaustre, Executive Director, SER-Colombia 08:30-08:50 Atlántico State Government Eduardo Verano de la Rosa, Atlántico State Governor, Colombia. 08:50-09:10 Technology Innovation- Socio-environmental Sustainability in Renewable Energy Projects. William Feragotto, ERM, Colombia. 09:10-09:30 Technology Innovation- Integration of renewables: Solutions to achieve the energy transition. Every day we read how renewable energy is becoming the most economical option and how in many countries and regions high levels of penetration are being achieved. This process, however, is not free of challenges and difficulties. The variable nature of wind and solar energy forces us to reconsider how we plan, design, construct and operate the electrical system. This presentation will show the technological solutions that exist and how they are being implemented in different parts of the world.
3 Alfredo Parres, Group Senior Vice President, Market Development Manager Renewables, ABB, Spain Technology Innovation - Wind Energy. The deployment of wind energy worldwide continues to grow steeply, supported by continued cost reductions. Although the development of this technology is mainly evident in Onshore installations, the level of energy costs (LCOE) for Offshore installations continues to decrease due to the wide range of innovations, such as floating wind turbines. In this conference the most recent technological advances in terms of wind generation will be exhibited.
