1 Overview The assessment for the Certificate IV in Project Management comprises Assessment Task Description Percentage Individual Assignment Unit Tests Development of a detailed Project Management Plan for chosen case study Submission of a detailed Project Management Plan or Body of Evidence from work related project Based on the PMBOK 4 th Edition and Learning Program Content 30% 50% 20% Grading Grading Code: 42 Competency (Ungraded) The student result is based on the evidence provided to meet the criteria for competence as specified in the units of competency. Where students are not deemed competent after the first attempt a resubmission may be requested. If a student has demonstrated consistent effort in the learning of a module then, at the teacher s professional discretion, the student may be awarded a resubmission. This resubmission must be made as soon after the initial assessment as possible. A nominal mark can be calculated for each assessment and for the overall level of achievement. Competency requires a grade of 65% or higher in all units. Awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement can be awarded for students with grades of 85% and above. IMPORTANT NOTE: Although you will be given a percentage % mark for this course, this will not appear on TAFE transcripts or on the Qualification. Unit Test/Quiz There is one Quiz for each unit as well as one for the Introductory unit. With the exception of the Introductory unit, all quizzes are multiple choice. The questions are primarily drawn from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK) as found in the following recommended text - Project Management Institute Standards Committee, A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge 4th edition, Project Management Institute, ISBN: Questions and concepts are also drawn from the Learning Program, Learner Guides and Skills 1
2 Kits provided to TAFE students doing either the Certificate or Diploma of Project Management. All tests are timed to take 30 to 45 minutes and be conducted as an open book revision exercise. It should be undertaken as an individual assessment with no student interaction or teacher interaction. Once the time limit is exceeded, the Quiz will save and submit your answers you need to be careful to complete the quiz in the time given. You will be allowed two attempts at the Quiz the highest mark from the two submissions will be used to calculate your mark. To encourage you to read course materials before class - your first attempt will be available until the last class for that unit. If you choose not to do the first attempt no extensions are available. Your second attempt will be available until the end of the course refer to the timetable for due dates. Case Studies Teams must produce a detailed Project Management Plan for their chosen case study. The case studies you can choose from are attachments to this PDF. The attachments can be viewed via the paperclip symbol. If you do not have the paperclip symbol then put your mouse on the lower half of the screen and an Adobe box should appear with a triangle - select the triangle. Templates Templates are available to complete this assignment in the Useful Links area on any of the Sites. Team Allocations Teams will be allocated by the Facilitator based on your preferred Case Study. Note: It may not be possible to give you your preferred case study. Submitting the Assignment s will be submitted by uploading documents to the Assignments area in SAKAI assignments will not be accepted via any other method. One person from the Team will be nominated to submit the assignment. Only one file type for each unit may be uploaded e.g.: do not upload 10 individual Word documents. Accepted file types are: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, MS Project, MS Publisher and PDF. Versions accepted are 2003 onwards. Do not zip the files. PLEASE INCLUDE THE NAMES OF THOSE THAT PARTICIPATED IN YOUR ASSIGNMENT. Note: Late submissions will incur a 10% penalty per unit and 10% per unit every subsequent two weeks unless an extension has been granted or waived at the facilitators discretion on a case by case basis. It is important for project management to show you can meet deadlines. Feedback You will receive your feedback within two weeks - you will be notified by by your facilitator when results are available. 7 Individual Assignment Project Choice Students are given a choice of basing their answers on a real life project (work or personal) or a simulated project. The project must be a complex project. Complex projects must: 1) Have multiple stakeholders 2) A project operation team (i.e.: not just one person) 3) A dedicated and diverse budget 4) A comprehensive plan 5) Multiple operational and administrative components 6) A formal communications strategy Workbook Use the Workbook provided as an attachment to this PDF. Environmental Sustainability: You may wish to consider including environmental sustainability principles in the following areas of your project plans: Scope: including specific sustainability objectives and practices in your project objectives and scope statement. Cost: costing the environmental impacts of the project and including these in the project budget. Quality: following quality standards or requirements that include environmental sustainability. Risk: including an environmental risk category and assessing project risks in this category. Communications: including reporting of project environmental impacts positive and negative. Procurement: requirements and seller selection based on environmental considerations. 7
