8 Study Scores Provides equal recognition of student achievement in VCE VET programs with recognition available for VCE studies Valuable option for all students Students may choose not to receive a study score and will still receive: the VET certificate/statement of attainment a VCE Units 3&4 sequence for satisfactory completion purposes or contribution to VCAL at the appropriate level Note: Students who do not undertake scored assessment will not be eligible for a 10% increment 8
9 Study Score Components of VCE VET programs COURSEWORK 3 assessment tasks 66%* EXAM knowledge based test using evidence guides 34%* All units of competence Selected units of competence * With the exception of the VCE VET Dance and VCE VET Music (Program 2)
10 Coursework Based on a selection from four generic task types Work Performance Work Project Product Portfolio Task types identified as most commonly used by RTOs As a set, the tasks cover all units of competency undertaken in the 3-4 sequence Maximum flexibility of scheduling Assessment Plans not due until 15 August 2014.

12 Rules for Task Selection Use at least two of the task types You can have two of the same task type, but not all three tasks can be the same task type Aim at an even spread of hours across the units of competency Units of competency can t be split Separate evidence required for each task and student
13 Summary of task design process Review the UoCs and identify similar assessment requirements UoCs which have similar assessment requirements are collated into 3 groups Match each group of UoCs to the task type which will provide the best assessment Check your proposed task against the scoring criteria for that task Will the task meet the requirements of the criteria? Develop your assessment plan Have you met the weighting rules? Do you have 3 tasks? Have you included all the UoCs? Design your tasks in line with the VCAA task types

16 Assessment The Assessor is the person approved by the RTO to conduct assessments, record outcomes and provide the documentation to the school One Assessor needs to take responsibility for the assessment and scoring decision. eg: Third-party reports, different assessment occasions, one assessor scores the theory component, and the other assessor scores the practical component.

18 Scoring Student must achieve S for all UoCs assigned to the task in the Assessment Plan before they can be scored. Each task is scored according to the task specific scoring criteria Each scoring criteria is made up of 5 criterion Levels of performance for each criterion: Base (ie competent) Medium Tasks are weighted according to the hours High Record sheets are available in the Assessment Guide
19 Competency based Assessment and Scored Assessment - similarities and difference VET Assessment Scored Assessment - Covers all requirements of the UoCs - Covers all requirements of the UoCs - Adheres to the principles of VET assessment - valid, reliable, flexible and fair - Format of assessment is not prescribed - Assessment of UoCs can be fully integrated - VET assessment is competency based - Adheres to the principles of VET assessment - valid, reliable, flexible and fair - Assessment must adhere to the VCAA Task Types - UoCs can only be grouped as per the VCAA rules - Grouped UoC can only be assessed within one task. - Scored assessment requires assessment to be graded against a prescribed criteria, after competency has been determined 19
