1 One-day course 499/ 649 +VAT London 08 November 2017 London 26 June 2018 European HR Cross-border employment law Managing teams of people is challenging at the best of times. Working across European borders is even more difficult due to cultural and legal differences. This course considers strategic and practical issues that international HR professionals encounter, from methods to cut costs and improve business performance to contract and policy issues. We explain when HR and legal can support managers desire for harmonised terms and conditions and when they cannot. We also show how to organise a restructuring, which affects employees in different countries, each with different information and consultation requirements. Experts from Germany, UK, France, the Netherlands and Italy explain the major pitfalls, how to avoid them, and how to use a project management approach to co-ordinate and ensure consistent HR practice.
2 European HR Cross-border employment law London 08 November 2017 London 26 June 2018 Despite the influence of the EU, there are still significant differences between European jurisdictions in the way employment law has been implemented and in custom and practice. These inconsistencies pose challenges and risk for HR professionals, and a barrier to the application of single HR policies and strategies across borders. This course covers the employment issues arising in pan-european projects such as restructuring and roll-outs of contracts or policies. We also consider, for example, how to avoid prejudicing a position in one country through action in another. Who should attend? This course is aimed at HR professionals and in-house lawyers with responsibility for employment law issues in Europe. It is assumed that each delegate will have a basic understanding of employment law in their home jurisdiction and awareness of restructuring issues, including TUPE and large-scale redundancies. Delegates will gain an insight into: aspects of employment law, with a focus on redundancies, in France, Germany, Italy, the UK and the Netherlands; and comparison with the UK/Germany common Euro-HR pitfalls and some of the less common ones practical and tactical considerations around multi-jurisdictional HR projects an insight into how cultural differences may impact on implementation of a European HR strategy key issues in collective consultation pan-european policies and harmonisation of terms and conditions: what is achievable? Course materials Delegates will receive course materials that set out the key issues in the jurisdictions covered and tools for project managing restructurings. 5 799 +VAT London 3 4 October 2017 or attend day one or day two for 499 +VAT Central and Eastern European HR Employment law in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia The Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries have distinctive employment law frameworks which an increasing number of HR practitioners and in-house lawyers must come to terms with. These nations have in common the influence of a previous bureaucratic, state-run economy and that, as new entrants to the EU (apart from Russia), they have each been forced to absorb a lot of EU labour law requirements very quickly. As a result, EU directives have often been implemented inconsistently or applied imperfectly. This two-day course will provide an introduction to the employment laws of six CEE countries. Experienced experts, who are used to advising employers from Western Europe and the USA, will explain features of their legal system, which may seem quirky or idiosyncratic at first glance. Who should attend? This course is relevant to international HR managers and directors, and in-house employment lawyers who have responsibility for employees in CEE jurisdictions. It will also be useful to managers and directors who anticipate entering the CEE market, and who need to be aware of their responsibilities to their people.
