3 General Overview GKN Aerospace and Compdata Surveys are pleased to present the. Data was submitted by 7 aerospace manufacturing organizations across the United States. In addition, supplemental data was provided by Compdata Surveys. The survey covers company profile information, benefits (including medical insurance, paid time off, and disability coverage), and pay data for twelve hourly positions. Data was collected with an May 1, 2011 effective date. The data was submitted to and analyzed by Compdata Surveys, a firm specializing in the administration and publication of compensation surveys. As a matter of policy, the data is maintained by them in absolute confidentiality. Any display of asterisks (*.*) indicates insufficient data for presentation. Specific rules have been established by the U.S. Department of Justice and have been followed for the administration and publication of this salary survey data. The following conditions must be observed whenever sponsoring, sanctioning or participating in a salary survey. 1. The survey is managed by a third party. 2. The information provided by survey participants is based on data more than three months old. 3. There are at least five organizations reporting data upon which each disseminated statistic is based. No individual provider s data may represent more than twentyfive percent on a weighted basis of that statistic. Any information disseminated is aggregated such that it would not allow recipients to identify benefits or compensation paid by any particular organization. 12 Performs a variety of operations to assemble and make major assembly structures such as fuselage panels and bulkheads, and structural subassemblies such as rudders, flaps, and stabilizers. Aligns parts on jigs using templates and fixtures. Performs such minor part-fitting operations as filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing. riveting, drilling, and reaming. Measures parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions. May modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes to structure. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Experience: 2 years experience in this or comparable classification. Assembler Education and Training: Must have knowledge of shop mathematics, production methods, shop practices and working quality of composite materials and machine operation. 13 Bonding Mechanic Responsible for fabrication, assembly, painting, rework and repair of composite products. Includes, but not limited to: operation of machines, fabrication of temporary tooling, tooling maintenance and first level maintenance related to composite products. Representative duties include: Layup and bond various material; assemble composite components and sub-assemblies; operate all machines, processes (including chemical processes) and related procedures; and fabricate shop aids, required tooling, test specimens and developmental parts. Experience: 4 to 5 years experience in this or comparable classification. Education and Training: Must have knowledge of shop mathematics, production methods, shop practices and working quality of composite materials and machine operation. 14 Forklift Driver General warehouse labor job. The job typically requires the ability to follow basic written and verbal instructions, such as bills of materials and shipping documents, or equivalent. With readily available supervision, workers operate a gas or electric powered forklift truck to move, stack, load, or unload materials in and about the plant, warehouse, staging areas etc. Work may include using banding and shrink wrap machines. Workers may use bar code readers, computer terminals, or other electronic devices to track product as it is moved. Experience: 2 years experience in this or comparable classification. Education and Training: Must have knowledge and experience with powered industrial vehicles, shop mathematics, shop practices and working quality of materials and equipment operation %
15 Industrial Electrician Responsible for the electrical repair and electrical maintenance of machinery and equipment. Representative duties include: Maintain, modify, install, rebuild, calibrate, diagnose and repair electrical machinery and equipment which may include work on electrical systems, utility distribution system, plant equipment, production equipment, machine tools, air conditioning or refrigeration equipment, instrumentation, and measuring and control devices including fastening, bracketing, or support devices; develop and maintain procedures for electrical maintenance activities; participate in the prioritization and scheduling of electrical maintenance activities; and assure that plant and equipment meet production expectations. Experience: 2 years experience in this or comparable classification. Education and Training: Must have knowledge of shop mathematics, applied electronics and mechanics, industrial machinery, plant and equipment. Must be able to use personal computer and electronic diagnostic equipment. Work from handbook formulas, drawings, sketches and diagrams %
16 Machine Repair Mechanic Responsible for the mechanical repair and mechanical maintenance of machinery and equipment. Representative duties include: Maintain, modify, install, rebuild diagnose and repair mechanical machinery and equipment; develop and maintain procedures for mechanical maintenance activity; prioritize and schedule mechanical maintenance activities; and assure that plant and equipment meet production quality expectations including the Boiler house. Experience: 2 years experience in this or comparable classification. Education and Training: Must have knowledge of shop mathematics, applied mechanics, industrial machinery, plant and equipment. Must be able to use personal computer and electronic diagnostic equipment. Work from handbook formulas, drawings, sketches and diagrams %
17 Machinist Responsible for the machining, finish, inspection and sub-assembly of components. Sets up and operates machine tools, hand and power tools, and gages and measuring instruments. Responsible for delivery of finished product to the next operation. Responsible first-level maintenance, tool maintenance and repair. Representative duties include: Layout, setup and operation of all machine tools, including the operation of multiple machines, and other related equipment; finish, repair and rework parts; and fabricate, rework and repair tools, parts and assemblies. Experience: 4 to 5 years experience in this or comparable classification. Education and Training: Must have knowledge of shop mathematics, machine speeds and feeds, cutting qualities of materials, production methods and shop practice. 18 Machinist Helper Responsible for the assisting the Machinist with machining, finish, inspection and sub-assembly of components. Assisting with set up and operating machine tools, hand and power tools, and gages and measuring instruments. Responsible for delivery of finished product to the next operation. Responsible first-level maintenance, tool maintenance and repair. Representative duties include: Layout, setup and operation of all machine tools, including the operation of multiple machines, and other related equipment; finish, repair and rework parts; and fabricate, rework and repair tools, parts and assemblies. 19 Material Handler (Shipping & Receiving) Responsible for shipping, receiving, handling, and storing of parts and products. Responsible for heavy equipment and machinery to assist in preparing items to be shipped and received. Employee must be able to tolerate repetitive bending/stooping near ground/floor level to view and/or inspect freight and parts and climbing into and out of forklift. Employee must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. occasionally and up to 40 lbs. frequently to move freight from crate to inspection area and lift and transfer 16 ft. lumber, transfer cut plywood and cardboard stock supplies. Employee must be able to use the following tools; box cutter, stapler, screw gun, nail gun, table saw, pallet jacks, cardboard scoring and tab cutter. Responsible for maintaining the upkeep of the warehouse. Strong communication skills to interact with everyone from vendors to management to co-workers. The work environment is temperature controlled in winter, fans in summer. The work environment includes a flat floor surface, potentially wet or oily and irregular. Lighting is overhead task lighting and some of the dock areas have unprotected heights. Experience: 2 years experience in this or comparable classification. Education and Training: Must have knowledge of warehouse operation methods, shop mathematics, shop practices and working quality of materials and equipment operation %
20 Metal Fabricator Responsible for fabricating, finishing, rework and repair of metal components and welding fabrication of component parts, tools, fixtures and other articles. Responsible for the heat treating of machined and sheet metal parts. Representative duties include: Layout and set-up details to be fabricated; fabricate, fit, and setup details to be welded; fabricate, rework and repair of tools, parts and assemblies; layout, setup and operation of various pieces of fabrication and welding equipment; and load, unload and operate degreasing, heat treating equipment and related accessories. Experience: 4 to 5 years experience in this or comparable classification. Education and Training: Must have knowledge of shop mathematics, production methods, shop practices and working quality of materials and equipment operation. Must be able to work from information such as drawings shop sketches, sample parts, specifications, job instruction sheets or layouts, handbooks, formulas, and engineering instructions. Read indicating and recording instruments, hand operated heat recorder. May require knowledge of arc, gas, tungsten and metal inert gas welding methods, specifications and shop practice. May be required to pass welding certification test %
21 Pipefitter Responsible for the repair and maintenance of chemical and industrial process piping and equipment. Representative duties include: Maintain, modify, install, rebuild, diagnose and repair chemical and industrial process piping and equipment; develop and maintain procedures for maintenance activity; prioritize and schedule maintenance activities; and assure that plant and equipment meet production expectations, including the Boiler house. Experience: 3 to 4 years of experience in this or comparable classification. Education and Training: Must have knowledge of industrial chemical, water, and process systems. 22 Process Operator Responsible for plating and chemical treating of all machined and sheet metal parts. Representative duties include: Setup, load, operate and maintain chemical and plating equipment and plating process tanks; measure and check parts for completion; and use hand and power tools and measuring equipment to complete parts and processes. Experience: 1 to 2 years experience in this or comparable classification. Education and Training: Must have knowledge of shop mathematics, chemical milling processes and shop practice. Work from information such as drawings, specifications, templates, complete knowledge of government and process specifications covering cleaning and anodizing process.
