8 Risk Management - Farra takes the management of all risks related to health and safety seriously. As part of this there is a process that is followed (below). All workers (staff and contractors) are important in the identify, monitor and control section of this cycle. - If you are asked to follow a SOP or undertake work a certain way please do so as this may be linked to controlling a significant risk.

9 Health and Safety Basics Farra is a Drug and Alcohol free workplace If you have an incident while working for Farra you may be required to undergo a post incident Drug and Alcohol test Farra is a Smoke free workplace If you may however continue to smoke on the public street outside any of our divisions, all we ask is that you don t do this in any doorways Basic PPE is required at all times At all times you are required to wear: - Safety Footwear - Hi-Viz Vest And have with you: - Safety eyewear - Hearing protection

10 Training - All workers on Farra sites must hold a certain level of competency and training. - HSMS 4.6 outlines the NZQA courses you must have to do certain types of work on Farra controlled sites. If you would like a copy please contact us

11 Significant Risks at Farra - Cranes / Lifting Equipment - Weld Flash - Machines - Grinding Sparks - Hot Steel - Forklifts - Chemicals - Electrical Equipment

12 Incident / Hazard Reporting - Everyone must report all incidents and hazards - Report these to the Divisional Manager or Foreman - Even a cut to a finger must be recorded - A decision will be made as who will investigate the event if needed - Incidents are to be recorded either on the tablets into our health & safety system Vault or on an accident forms - Both are available in the foreman s office

13 Cranes / Lifting Equipment - DON T operate unless you have been assessed by Farra as competent or you are supervised - Keep away from the travelling crane hook and what it may be carrying - Stand in a safe position - Be aware of suspended load - Never walk under a suspended load - The wires that power the crane are live and very dangerous be careful carrying tall objects and working at height. - Use the correct equipment for the lift - Ensure that the lifting equipment is tagged and current

14 Forklifts - Don t operate unless you have been assessed by Farra as competent and authorised - Be aware of moving forklifts in the workshop - Do not use to elevate staff - If you are elevated a safety harness must be worn

15 Weld Flash - Do not look at anyone welding and always wear safety glasses near anyone welding - Weld flash is very painful

16 Uneven Floors and Obstacles - Watch your feet for trip hazards and uneven floors

17 Grinding Sparks - Always wear your safety glasses around other grinding

18 Hot Steel Always treat steel as being hot unless proven otherwise

19 Cylinder Safety - Gas bottles can be unstable therefore must be kept secured at all times

20 Chemical Safety - A copy of the chemical/hazardous substance s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) must be with you at all times. A copy should also be given to the foreman if requested. - No Safety Data Sheet = potentially no work. - The use of PPE must be in accordance with requirements detailed on the SDS - In the event of a chemical incident there are eye wash stations located around the divisions - Do not touch any chemicals unless you are trained in their handling

21 Electricity- Inspection and Safe Use of Portable Electrical Equipment Hazards/Risks associated with portable electrical equipment - Burns - Electric shock - Fires All portable electrical equipment should be checked before use e.g. - Cords for cuts, fraying or damage - Plugs for damage - The piece of portable electrical equipment for any damage - e.g. loose or missing parts All portable electrical equipment including extension cords must have a current test tag All portable electrical equipment should be used with an Residual circuit device (RCD) or Earth leakage circuit breakers (ELCB: Lifeguards)

22 Work Authorisation - For any Height or Confined space work that is done on a Farra site you will need to complete a work authorisation certificate or if we are on a clients site their associated Permits - In order to complete a work authorisation certificate you must have first completed a JSA / TA / SWMS / JSEA

23 First Aid & Emergency Services - There are First Aid kits, Defibrillators and trained first aiders at each division. - To call emergency services from a land line on site dial Tell a Farra staff member immediately if you call emergency services

24 Evacuation - If you hear a fire alarm, please keep calm and exit the building via the nearest exit. - Please take the emergency flip chart with you if it hasn t already been taken. These can be found at every exit. - Please report to the building warden at the assembly point.

26 Ongoing Workplace Inspections Farra is committed to ensuring that all of our contractors are safe while at work and part of this is undertaking ongoing workplace inspections these may: - Be undertaken on any of our contractors - Be undertaken by a H&S Rep or Foreman - Assess that you are working in a safe way - Assess the equipment that you are using - Influence future work

27 Confidential Information As a contractor on site you may well see information and processes that are confidential to Farra, or Farra s customers. - It is important that this information is kept confidential and not discussed outside of the company and certainly not with competitors to Farra. - If in doubt about what is confidential, keep things to yourself otherwise you might: - Disclose important competitive information or - Information that is exclusive to our customers exposing Farra to possible legal action.

28 Right of Entry Completing this Induction enables only right of entry to Farra work places as a visitor, each Division has its own one pages you must complete prior to undertaking work. It DOES NOT provide you with the right to operate any machinery. Cranes and Forklifts can only be used if you are fully trained and you have been assessed by Farra.
