3 Transport Sector Present Scenario One of the largest in the world Serves a land mass of 3.3 million km 2 and population of over one billion Enormous growth of transport sector in the last 50 years Volume of railway freight increased five folds and passenger kms seven folds Length of surfaced roads increased nine folds Tonnage handled by India's major/minor ports increased sixteen folds Air freight tonnage increased 30 folds Source:- India Vision 2020

10 Objectives Of The Project IT packaging of Freight Services Create rail connectivity to bulk customers not using rail network through PPP model Increase rail share in freight market OBJECTIVES Create additional rail infrastructure to cater to high levels of transport demand Reduce unit cost of transportation resulting in market competitive rail tariff for customer Segregate freight infrastructure for focused approach on both passenger and freight business of Railways Provide seamless end to end solution to the customers

17 Progress on Land Acquisition Land Acquisition is being done as per Railway Amendment Act, Compensation is guided by the Principles enshrined in National Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy (NRRP), 2007 Land Acquisition is required for hectares. So far, 85% of the total land acquired. Entire DFC land acquisition is likely to be completed by 2013.

18 Major Breakthrough in Environmental Clearances Wild Life clearances for Sanjay Gandhi National Park & Balaji Ambaji Bird Sanctuary obtained under NWPA Diversion of 58 Ha of forest land in Maharashtra approved by FAC under FCA Permission of Empowered Committee obtained for cutting trees in Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ).
