4 Did You Know The #1 variety of data stolen during cyber espionage campaigns worldwide is sensitive, non-public business and organization data that is not openly released! 85.8 % of all data stolen falls into that category. That is the data you handle on a regular basis! Everyone hears about all the Classified data that is stolen, but that is a very small percentage in comparison. 7 Introduction Research & Development R&D is highly targeted and has sensitive information on new designs, inventions, patents (pending or issued), products, research projects and key individuals. All of this is valuable knowledge. Manufacturing New initiatives, bids, supply chain partners, component costs, special manufacturing capabilities, finished goods, key raw materials and manufacturing processes are of great value. Sales and Marketing Sales strategies, pricing plans, marketing plans/budgets, bid information, customer lists, events and conferences and information on reseller networks are extremely valuable competitive pieces of information. 12 Real-World Example I have stayed at hotels so much. At one point I had 1.6 million Marriott points in my account! I took this in the lobby of a hotel I stayed at last year. The printer had a document on it a filled-out background verification form. It was there for 40 minutes! 14 Real-World Example I spoke at a corporate event last year and discussed the emerging g Internet of Things or IoT era that has just entered into its accelerated growth and advancement stage. After returning, I received an through my web site form asking me for copies of my slides. When I checked with the company that asked me to speak, they said he was not an employee nor had they ever heard of that individual! Real-World Example Do you or your guests pack sensitive information in luggage g Do you ever allow the hotel staff to put your laptop on the cart Do you leave your laptop or tablet in your room and unattended when you are out If it is not encrypted, it is at risk! Please do not give these away at any of your events. 14

15 What you should do! Have someone in the meeting room at all times (breakfast, lunch, dinner and breaks). No one enters who is not invited or registered. You should monitor hotel staff as well. When practical, consider collecting and shipping any sensitive materials to the attendees when the event/meeting concludes. Do not place any meeting materials on a table outside the meeting room in the general access hallway. Get your information security people involved before and during the event! Ask them if it is appropriate for meeting attendees to use the open wireless network provided at the external facility while attending the event or meeting Wrap-up What we went over just now is the tip of fthe iceberg!
