Division 16 - Electrical 1.2 SUBMITTALS A. Submit manufacturer s data, qualifying documents, and shop drawings on the proposed water treatment system before starting any work. 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Contractor Qualifications: 1. Licensed and legally engaged in the business of providing the type of installation and service required by this section in the local area for at least 3 years. 2. Water treatment contractor shall submit: 1.4 WARRANTY a. Copy of occupational license and two letters of reference from current customers with similar systems in the Miami-Dade County area. b. Copy of ISO 9002 certificate of chemical products proposed for use at M-DCPS. A. Provide copy of manufacturer s standard warranty for each component in addition to the standard warranty required of the contractor. B. Provide 1 year warranty on all water treatment components, parts, and labor from the start- up date of the air conditioning system. Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

2 1.5 MAINTENANCE A. The contractor shall: 1. Provide a monthly maintenance record of the water treatment system, as noted in this section, starting from the time the system is installed and operational to the expiration of the warranty period. 2. Provide and maintain chemicals required for metal tower passivation, system precleaning and treatment during the 1 year warranty period. 3. Provide and maintain sufficient chemical supplies at the facility to prevent treatment interruptions due to the exhausting of the supplies. 4. Sign the M-DCPS supplied log sheet during each visit to the facility, stating the purpose of the visit. B. Maintain the water treatment chemicals in the mechanical room provided by the facility, and be responsible for the prompt clean up and disposal of any chemical spills, leaks, etc. in an acceptable manner to M-DCPS. C. Be responsible for the prompt removal of excess supplies and their proper disposal at the end of the warranty period. PART 2 PRODUCTS AND SERVICES 2.1 SERVICES A. Required Services: 1. Orientation programs as needed for the supervisors and mechanics of the M-DCPS air conditioning water treatment department. 2. Complete service visits, with field analysis of pertinent samples, at 2 week intervals for the first 2 months of on line operation, then continuing at least monthly for the remainder of the warranty period. 3. Analyses of alkalinity, ph, chloride, total hardness, calcium and magnesium, inhibitor, halogens, concentration cycles, TDS (conductance), scaling index (Langlier or Ryznar) and micro biological test counts for bacteria and fungi. 4. Written copies of all service reports, promptly delivered to the M-DCPS water treatment department supervisor along with any comments regarding problem areas, changes in dosage, bleed off, changes in product or maintenance procedures. 5. Corrosion coupon studies provided at least 4 times annually at approximately 3 month intervals, with all tests results made immediately available to the M-DCPS water treatment department supervisor. 6. Provide acceptable operating conditions with maximum permissible corrosion rates no higher than 0.5 mpy for copper and 3.5 mpy for mild steel. 7. Provide an emergency contact number, and a response time of 24 hours or less to all service calls. B. Required Documentation: 1. Manufacturer s Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as required by OSHA, on all products. 2. Product data sheets describing proper dosage, handling and feeding. Project No. SPECIFICATION GUIDELINES

3 3. Instructions for analytical procedures used to obtain desired control limits. 4. Warranty of full compliance with local, state, and federal pollution laws with the normal use of the product. 2.2 EQUIPMENT A. Condenser Water Conductivity Controller: 1. With michromho control range, 0-90 minute lock out timer, and 3/4" FPT tee type probe rated at 150 psi: a. Model No. ACT-101 by Pulsafeeder. b. Model No. DCPS-C by Advantage. B. Flow Controller: 1. With visible plunger type assembly, 115v weather proof receptacle with one "ON" with flow, the other one service: a. Model No. FC-100C-3-6 by Pulsafeeder. b. Model No. FWR-1A-G by Florida Water processing. C. Biocide Timer: 1. With 24 hour, 7 day timer, 4 pole double throw switch that deactivates the inhibitor pumps and bleed off while biocide is feeding: a. Model No by Paragon. b. Model No. DCPS-B by Advantage. D. Chemical Feed Pumps: 1. With adjustable feed rate of 0-24 gallons per day, operating pressure up to 110 psi, and suitable for direct feed from a chemical drum. a. Model No. A151-92S by LMI. b. Model No. LPG4SA-PTC1-500 by Pulsafeeder. E. Bleed off Valve: 1. With 3/4" FPT ports and a 115v solenoid coil. 2. The bleed off assembly shall be equipped with an upstream strainer and a manual bypass for emergency use during solenoid malfunction or general maintenance. 3. Manufacturers: a. 4 F. Coupon Rack: 1. With 4 coupon stations, 3/4" PVC lines, inlet and outlet service valves, and a poly fiber mounting board. a. Model No. CCR4-X7-H4 by Pulsafeeder. b. Model No. PCR by J.L. Wingert. G. Chemical Pot Feeder: 1. With 5 gallon pot, stand-alone construction, and drain valve. H. Strainer: a. Model No. M-DBF5 by Neptune. b. Model No. DB-5HD by J.L. Wingert. 1. With clear nylon bowl, stainless screen, PVC construction, and 3/4" FPT ports. 2.3 MATERIALS a. Model No. 2P582 by Teel. b. Model No with insert by Amiad. A. Tower treatment formulations used for the treatment of the cooling tower water shall be concentrated liquid solutions of corrosion inhibitors and sequestering agents that shall: 1. Inhibit scale formation in the tower/condenser system at a concentration of 4-6 cycles, as indicated by the make-up water. 2. Inhibit corrosion in ferrous and nonferrous metals. Maximum permissible corrosion rates shall be 0.5 mpy for copper and 3.5 mpy for mild steel. B. Biocides, two or more different ones applied alternately, shall be used to effectively prevent the growth of algae, fungi, slime, or other undesirable forms of bacteria life. Application shall be as needed in concentration and frequency, to maintain proper system cleanliness, heat transferal, and avoid corrosion caused by microbiological-fouling. C. Closed loop treatment shall be a concentrated liquid chemical solution of borate buffers, nitrite, and other inhibitors for ferrous and nonferrous metals. Treatment shall contain sequestrants in appropriate amounts to prevent rust, corrosion, scale, pitting, and sludge accumulations. Nitrite residuals maintained shall be ppm in chilled water, 600-1,000 ppm in hot water and minimum ph of 9.0 D. Pre-cleaner formulations shall be concentrated alkaline based cleaning solutions designed for the removal of cutting oils, cosmoline, greasy film, mill scale, dirt, and other surface foulants. 5 E. Products shall be the original manufacturer s formulation. There shall be no mixing, diluting, or altering of the product at any M-DCPS facility. F. Products used shall meet local, state, and federal regulations for discharge into sewage systems. G. Products used shall be ISO 9002 certified and labeled. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION A. The contractor shall install water treatment systems according to the manufacturer's instructions. B. Water treatment equipment shall be installed in a neat, professional manner by using appropriate brackets, shelves, clamps, etc. Equipment shall be installed in locations easily accessible for service to valves, probes and all components. C. Piping for the water supply to the probes and the chemical feed lines shall be 3/4" schedule 80 PVC. The bleed off lines shall be 3/4" or 1" schedule 80 PVC. Both shall include valves for isolation of the components to permit service or repair without shutting down the main circulating system. 3.2 CONFIGURATION A.
