Database administration experience (preferably Raisers Edge) Overview of Role The Fundraising Communications Officer will work as part of the fundraising team to develop and implement our fundraising strategy. The role will maximise income generation for Cornerstone by developing and delivering an effective communication programme to existing and potential stakeholders. The role will involve the on-going creation and evaluation of marketing and communication activities to maximise opportunities for promoting the charity and build links with potential and existing supporters. This role requires creativity, an entrepreneurial outlook and the ability to develop high quality communications, including plans, materials and messages for all fundraising activities, in order to increase support for Cornerstone. The post holder will be have the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels and to work well on your own and as part of a team. You will be an ambassador for Cornerstone at events or functions. Represent Cornerstone in developing partnerships that support our brand awareness and development Key Tasks 1. Raise Cornerstone s fundraising profile through marketing, to produce emotive and motivating stories and materials that represent the work of our charity for a variety of fundraising activities aiming to reach new audiences and increase the number of supporters. 2. Ensure communication activities are carried out with sensitivity to the people we support and in keeping with Cornerstone s corporate guidelines. 3. Develop, in conjunction with the Director of Corporate Relations and Fundraising and the Fundraising Manager, plans for PR work to support key fundraising activities. 4. Work with fundraising staff to deliver PR plans, including developing messages, general copywriting, writing content for the website, liaising with journalists and sourcing media comments. 5. 6. Liaise with case study families and individuals for use in media, marketing and publicity purposes to raise the profile of the organisation. 7. In conjunction with the Fundraising Manager, help to develop messages for key events to promote fundraising and generate funds. 8. Create content for fundraising print, web and social media marketing materials, and organise distribution. 9. Track, monitor and evaluate the impact of fundraising communications, circulating relevant press cuttings to key staff and producing monthly statistics on coverage. 10. Work as an integral member of the fundraising team, providing support and briefs to the wider Marketing & Communications team. 11. Keep abreast of the latest professional developments, by liaising closely with the Marketing & Communications team for organisational best practice and to undertake training as required. 12. Adopt a creative approach to external communications that utilises new technologies and channels such as social media, sms, video, blog, podcast. 13. Develop, implement, and regulate marketing materials and communications that reflect and contribute to our organisational aim, vision, values and objectives. 14. Ensure all actions adhere to the organisation s fundraising strategy, policies, procedures and practices. 15. Be prepared to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, and to travel to events when appropriate. 16. Be an ambassador for Cornerstone at any fundraising activity, event or functions. 17. Responsible for delivering agreed objectives within set timescales. 18. Contribute to the wider team and all aspects of Cornerstone s fundraising. 19. Promote Cornerstone s aim and objectives continually through working practice. 20. Person Specification Educational Qualifications Essential Degree level qualification in a communications or design subject e.g. PR, marketing or advertising. Skills, Knowledge and Experience Essential Experience in or aptitude for fundraising/generating income. Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal. Experience of copywriting for a range of audiences; proven ability to write about complex issues clearly and effectively. Experience of creating content for and using social media channels for PR purposes. Desirable Qualification in Fundraising discipline Member of the Institute of Fundraisers. Desirable Research skills and the ability to analyse and use information from different sources. Understanding of project budgeting. Experience of evaluating media coverage. Experience of using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Experience of ensuring the end marketing product is high quality. Proven IT skills, developing content and uploading this content, including images and video to online sites/social media channels. Ability to sell a cause successfully and an appreciation of the communication needs of charity fundraising. Ability to prioritise competing tasks, manage a busy work load, work quickly and deliver to deadline. Good track record of building positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
