The objective: Government institutions and other stakeholders have improved their data collection, use, dissemination and knowledge management in the field of climate change and climate change adaptation.

Capacity Development/ Knowledge Management / Networking Knowledge managment and regional networking The Challenges: Scattered data In-sufficient data sets Dedicated support (financial and human resource) Participation from sectoral departments, agencies and institutions Centre for Adaptation to Climate Change (CACC) Inauguration by CM/Meghalaya and BMZ/Germany, 07/13 Vision and mission defined through series of stakeholder workshops Knowledge Management Task Force constituted at Government level Regional perspective Strong backing of Government of Meghalaya Focus on data collation and management Multi-sectoral data made available to stakeholders for plannng Integrated planning for land and water resources, forest and livelihood (priority areas of SAPCCs) Regional experience sharing (within program states, within North East, beyond North East, Himalayan region)

Capacity Development/ Knowledge Management / Networking Knowledge managment and regional networking The expected outcomes: Sustainable data storage and maintenance have been facilitated Sharing of information and knowledge have been facilitated Synergies between the involved research institutions, government institutions and users have been established The Centre is perceived as the key reference point for information on NRM and climate change Achievements so far Series of stakeholder consultations to define vision and objectives of the Centre. Stakeholder workshop in September 2012 had over 30 officers from line departments and research institutions. Chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya Task Force constituted involving multi sectoral departments, institutions Project on Assessment of climate and land use change impacts on land and water resources in the Umiam river basin - first initiative of the Centre - conceptualized in cooperation with University of Jena, Germany and local research institutions

14 Ideas on way forward Integration of other NER states? - issues of phasing, avoid time laps between phases Tackle economic dimension of climate change: Response to CC must meet economic and social development needs (e.g. climate-smart, green inclusive growth ) Respect inter-linkage of different sectors and resources: Nexus+ water - energy - food as a livelihood-based approach (incl. forests, biodiversity/ wildlife) Enhance internal technical capacities for project implementation Continuing the building of institutional capacities for convergence with flagship programmes, Missions and schemes Page 13
