1 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 11, 2017 CONTACT: Wyatt Shaw AREA STUDENT NAMED FFA PROFICIENCY AWARD FINALIST (name), of the (hometown) FFA chapter, has been selected as a state finalist in the award area of. (award) Up to three finalists are selected in 49 agricultural proficiency award categories. The state winner in each area will be announced May 3 during the 91st State FFA Convention held at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. Proficiency awards recognize excellence in a supervised agricultural experience program and exceptional accomplishment in progressing toward specific agricultural career objectives. These awards encourage members to develop specialized skills to apply toward future careers. Members are recognized for their accomplishments at the local, state and national levels. The state winner in each area will represent Oklahoma in the national FFA competition this fall in Indianapolis, Indiana. In addition to receiving a plaque and cash award, finalists will enjoy an honors luncheon with their sponsors. The Award Winners & Stars Luncheon is co-sponsored by Farm Credit Associations of Oklahoma, Gilbert & Sons Trucking Company, Livestock Nutrition Services, Oklahoma Pork Council, Oklahoma Wheat Commission, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, Triangle Cooperative Service Company and Western Equipment LLC. FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education system. With more than 27,000 members and 357 chapters, the Oklahoma FFA Association is the fourth-largest state FFA association. It is important these finalists attend the Award Winners and Stars Luncheon at the Cox Convention Center Wednesday, May 3, 11:45 a.m., second floor, Great Hall C. The top ranked applicants in each award area will meet for lunch and take an official press release photograph with the state sponsor of their award area. The luncheon is for applicants only. After the luncheon, the applicants will go directly to the East Hallway downstairs to prepare for the onstage awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m. All areas have been judged.
