Inflationary pressures continue to ease as inflation single digit. compared to 16% at the end of 2012/13. The main drivers of growth recently have been several fast growing sectors: construction, transport and financial services. Fastest growth in 2015 was projected in following sub-activities : Construction (16.8%); Information and Communication (12.1%) ; Financial Services and Insurance(11.8%) ; Mining& Quarrying (9.1%) ; and Transport and Storage (7.9%). 3

7 THE TANZANIA INVESTMENT CENTER Coordinating, promoting and facilitating Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) is the primary agency of the Government responsible for coordinating, encouraging, promoting and facilitating investments Functions of TIC Creating and maintaining a positive climate for private sector investment; Vision To become a world class Investment Promotion Agency promoting Tanzania as Africa s premier investment destination Mission: To contribute to the sustainable economic development of Tanzania through attraction of new investment and maximizing its impact on the economy Providing advice to the Government on investment related matters; Stimulating local and foreign investments; Facilitating foreign and local investors; Stimulating and supporting the growth of Entrepreneurship and SMEs in Tanzania; Types of Investment TIC Supports Foreign Owned Investments Minimum Capital > US$ 500,000 Locally owned investments minimum capital > US$ 100,000 Industries/Sectors not included: Mining, Oil and Gas Collecting and disseminating up-to-date information on investment opportunities and incentive available to investors; Monitoring the Tanzania business environment and growth of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the Country. 7

17 Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Key Facts and Potential Areas for Investment Potential Areas: Key Facts: Agriculture employs about 67 % of the employed population and remains central to Tanzania s industrialization as it provides markets for industrial products and raw materials for industries. Tanzania has the 2nd largest livestock population in Africa. Less than 1% of all meat produced locally is processed, at the same time vast quantities ofprocessed meat are imported. The area of freshwater cover is estimated at 54,337 sq. km., which is about 6.1 % of the total country s surface area The country has Territorial Sea of 64,000 sq. km., an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) covering an area of about 223,000 sq. km and 1,424 km coastline along the Indian Ocean. Cultivation of maize, sugarcane, rice, sunflower, pulses, floriculture, cotton, sisal, grape, and simsim as prioritized crops. Development of out growers to complement the sources of raw materials for the industries as appropriate. Expansion and improvement of irrigation systems; improvement of R&D in crops cultivation; Investment in Livestock farming focusing on Beef, Dairy, Chicken, Hides and Skins as prioritized products. Investment in fresh water fishing, sea and deep sea fishing, fish farming and aquaculture. 17
18 Agriculture: Crops Over 300,000 tons country sugar supply gap, set to Increase exponentially The primary market opportunity for sugar producers in Tanzania is local: as existing sugar estates reach peak production, the supply gap is set to increase at an estimated 6% per annum from the current 300,000 tons / year, driven by economic and population growth More than 300,000 tons sugar deficit in Tanzania >800,000 tons supply gap by 2020 As incomes rise, sugar consumption in Tanzania is expected to increase rapidly from the current low levels of per capita consumption Despite rapid production growth of existing estates following privatizations in the late 1990 s, supply could not keep up with demand over the last decade The supply gap is set to increase as existing estates reach their full capacity: the Sugar Board of Tanzania estimates that current producers could peak at 400,000 tons by 2020 Per capita sugar consumption 2010/11 est. 200 Production >300,000 tons current supply gap Source: Sugar Board of Tanzania, Illovo, Mtibwa, TPC, FAO +18 kg/yr World average per capita sugar consumption 18
19 Agriculture: Crops potential exemplified by sugar Target zones earmarked for increased sugar production The sugar supply gap is set to increase at an estimated 6% per annum from the current 300,000 tons / year, driven by economic and population growth. Tanzania has among the highest average cane yields in the world, at 120 tons/ha due to good soils and climate.
