WHO WE ARE? Plastics Recyclers Europe was established in 1996 with the purpose of protecting and promoting the interests of plastics recyclers in Europe.

3 WHO WE ARE? Plastics Recyclers Europe was established in 1996 with the purpose of protecting and promoting the interests of plastics recyclers in Europe. PRE supports the transition towards circular economy and aims to harmonize the recycling standards across Europe. When created the association had 7 members. Today more than 125 companies across Europe are a part of PRE, representing roughly 80% of European recycling capacity. With collective efforts and strong commitment of the plastics industry and legislators this number will only continue to grow. PRE provides plastics recyclers with representation at the European level and among the leading industry organizations. It promotes the use of quality plastic recyclates and offers concrete advice to develop innovative products and packages that incorporate design for recycling. PRE Annual Meeting Barcelona 2

4 ACTIVITES Advocacy PRE is on of the key stakeholders in the process of formulating, monitoring and evaluating the EU policies that impact plastics recyclers. Our organisation has put plastics recycling in the spotlight of the public debate, while a number of policy actions done by PRE have contributed to the growing structure of the plastics recycling market. Stakeholder Collaborations In the scope of its activities PRE partnered up and collaborated with a number of important industry stakeholders. Some of these collaborations include the creation with Petcore Europe, association representing the interests of the PET value chain at the European level, and the European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP), a project aiming to evaluate packaging technologies and products for PET bottles. The latest of PRE s collaboration is a partnership with the Association of Plastics Recyclers and EPBP, known as the Global Outreach Alliance. 5 ACTIVITIES RecyClass Recycling of plastics does not begin with collection, but rather with the design of products. Recycling processes are very often hampered by: inseparable polymer composites, unnecessary use of additives or combining of plastics with other materials (paper, metal, fibres) in a way that does not allow for an easy separation. PRE created RecyClass with the aim of improving the design of packaging so that it is easily recyclable into high-quality recyclates which can then be used in a new plastic product. EuCertPlast The European plastics recycling industry lacks uniform standards and certification schemes which would strengthen the secondary raw materials market and encourage higher use of recyclates. EuCertPlast was created with the aim of standardizing and encouraging environmentally friendly plastics recycling processes. The scheme focuses particularly on the process of traceability, assessment of conformity and content of recycled plastics. It recognises recyclers operating according to high quality standards. 6 EVENTS Plastics Recycling Show Europe Plastics Recycling Show Europe was launched in 2017 as the exhibition dedicated to plastics recycling in mainland Europe. The free to attend conference and exhibition has firmly established itself as the focal point of plastics recycling in Europe with more than 1,400 visitors and 100 exhibitors in 2017 s edition. The biggest names in recycled materials, recycling machinery and services are on display showing the latest innovation from this exciting industry. Plastics Recyclers Europe Working Group meetings Working Group meetings are reserved for PRE members only, and they take place on a quarterly basis. Plastics Recyclers Annual Meeting Every year Plastics Recyclers Annual Meeting gathers around 200 experts from across the entire plastics value chain from recyclers and plastics producers, to various authorities, researchers and academics. 7 WORKING GROUPS OVERVIEW The association consists of six different Working Groups (WGs) representing the interests of different segments based on the type of polymer or waste processed. These WGs meet 3 times a year, aiming to establish valuable contacts throughout the entire value chains, looking for solutions which can help advance the recycling and ultimately seeking to increase recycling and collection rate to ensure quality recycling. Within the PRE structure there are also Taskforces: Communications & Advocacy, REACH, Standards and Certification. These Tasforces interact with and coordinate the work of the other vertical WGs, providing information that is of interest to all the groups. 9 ADMISSION In order to apply for the PRE membership a Candidate Member shall: 1. Fill in the PRE Membership application form. Application forms can be downloaded from the PRE website or can be found on pages 12 & 13 of this brochure. 2. Applicants for Active Members (Recyclers) must send the application together with the national certificate of installed capacity as well as permit installation. 3. Send your application to: info@plasticsrecyclers.eu 4. Verification of the application: The Management Committee will verify whether the candidate fulfills the required conditions. The application for access will be submitted to the General Assembly for approval and accepted by an affirmative vote by the Members at the General Assembly. 5.
