15 Potential Beneficiaries Irrigation: 200M, lower food prices, jobs for landless, more income, better environment Rainfed: 500M smallholders in Asia & Africa, more income, better food security Pastoral: 180M pastoralists less vulnerability from secure land and water access Groundwater: 250M, reduced vulnerability to overdraft, better use in high potential areas Resource Recovery: 20 to 50M peri urban farmers, better health, productivity income gains; 1 B consumers n.b. each SRP will define specific target audiences geographically

18 CRP5 Budget enhanced scenario Ttlb Total budget required over 5 years is $537M. Increased investments in South & South East Asia while sustaining current investment levels in Africa & other regions. Amongst other SRPs, increased focus & investment in Resource Recovery & Reuse new area for CGIAR. 35% of the budget allocation for partnership/collaboration by 2015 total budget almost double the past average CGIAR allocation * No increase expected in Coordination & Management, and Communications. Increase envisaged in Training & Capacity building and information systems. Unrestricted funding, now CG Funding for CRP, is budgeted at 29% in line with past funding levels.

19 Risks Partnership: numbers of partners; capacity of partners; having the right partners Financial: the funding base is insufficient or too fragmented Political and social: There is a risk that research ideasand and partnerships will not be received favorably or be a voice at the table
