Please note IBM s statements regarding its plans, directions, and intent are subject to change or withdrawal without notice at IBM s sole discretion. Information regarding potential future products is intended to outline our general product direction and it should not be relied on in making a purchasing decision. The information mentioned regarding potential future products is not a commitment, promise, or legal obligation to deliver any material, code or functionality. Information about potential future products may not be incorporated into any contract. Performance is based on measurements and projections using standard IBM benchmarks in a controlled environment. The actual throughput or performance that any user will experience will vary depending upon many factors, including considerations such as the amount of multiprogramming in the user s job stream, the I/O configuration, the storage configuration, and the workload processed. Therefore, no assurance can be given that an individual user will achieve results similar to those stated here. The development, release, and timing of any future features or functionality described for our products remains at our sole discretion. 2 3/14/17
Over 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created every day and The average person is projected to generate more than 1 million gigabytes of health-related data in Source: IBM his or her lifetime. 3 3/14/17
Almost two-thirds of practicing nurses say they use mobile devices, social media and online references for professional purposes Source: Wolters Kluwer Health survey analysis 4 3/14/17
Nearly 25 percent of adults use mhealth apps and fitness tracking devices, and Source: Technology Advice survey of more than 900 adults 5 3/14/17

Data is a two-way street What is Interoperability? Interoperability describes the extent to which systems and devices can exchange data, and interpret that shared data. Interoperability means the ability of health information systems to work together within and across organizational boundaries in order to advance the effective delivery of healthcare for individuals and communities. There are three levels of health information technology interoperability: Integration between the senders and users of data is key 1) Foundational 2) Structural 3) Semantic 7 3/14/17
Using the data begins with the power of Watson Understands, reasons, learns and interacts Extracts and derives meaning from structured and unstructured content at scale Provides analyses across vast arrays of criteria to transform decision-making Dynamically updates hypotheses based on variable chains of evidence Harnesses entire bodies of knowledge 8 3/14/17
Expectations for better quality, value and outcomes Transformation is finally happening, driven by fundamental shifts in expectations and critical drivers. Escalating incidence and cost of chronic disease Changing demographics and lifestyles Globalization of healthcare Critical resource shortages Increased competition and new entrants Advances in technologies and treatments 9
Focused. Coordinated. Integrated. Healthcare is moving to a system focused on value, coordinated around the individual and integrated into our communities. Focus is on value, coordinated around the individual and integrated into communities Emphasis is on proactive care to meet health needs Payment is based upon value and outcomes Care is standardized according to evidence-based guidelines We measure quality and make rapid changes to improve it Knowledge is translated into practice quickly Worker Understand Specialists and influence Medications Pallative their Care/ populations Hospice Rehabilitatio n Housing Quality Home Care measurement and performance reporting Evidence-based and standardized care planning Social Transportation Primary Care Funding and Payment Case Manager Data and Information Intensivist Dietician Behavioural Health Family Physical Therapist Caregivers Community Coordination across boundaries -- share care, accountability and risk Individual engagement and empowerment
Redefining value and success To redefine value and success in healthcare, organizations are working to: Builds sustainable healthcare systems Collaborate to improve care and outcomes Increase access to healthcare 11

What is IBM Healthcare Integration? Time saving patterns Ø Rapidly create integrations between clinical and enterprise systems, customize patterns and re-use across your enterprise Healthcare-oriented operational views Ø Single point of visibility and control of clinical applications Support for Healthcare standards and messaging formats Ø HL7 v2.x, DICOM, IHE, HIPAA X12, CDA/CCD, HL7 FHIR Connectivity to bedside Medical Devices Connectivity beyond the hospital walls Ø Build Remote Patient Monitoring and Assisted Living solutions Ø Health Information Exchange connectivity (IHE Profile support) Patient and provider identity resolution Ø Embedded connectivity to IBM EMPI (Patient Hub, Provider Hub Initiate MDM) Compliance in a regulated world Ø Support for creation and parsing of HIPAA claims messages Ø Support for IHE ATNA profile (Audit Trail & Node Authentication) 19 3/14/17
What is the Watson Platform for Health? Helps accelerate product innovation by leveraging cloud computing, big data and the power of cognitive insights. Removes the complexityof integrating health data through a HIPAA-enabled data platform. Enables life sciences companies to develop unique solutions using mobile and smart healthiot. Providesend-to-end security that helps organizations manage risk, while they focus on competitive advantage and efficiency. Watson Platform for Health a key building blockto unlockinsights from data

Cognitive Solutions and FHIR Making them work together 23 3/14/17
Why Cognitive? Cognitive systems will forever change the way people interact with computing systems to help people extend their expertise across any domain of knowledge and make complex decisions involving extraordinary volumes of fast moving Big Data. Cognitive systems uses technologies like natural language processing and machine learning to enable people and machines to interact more naturally to extend and magnify human expertise and cognition. These systems will learn and interact to provide expert assistance to scientists, engineers, lawyers, and other professionals in a fraction of the time it now takes.
Why Watson Health as a cognitive solution? Watson Health can help doctors narrow down the options and pick the best treatments for their patients. While the doctor still does most of the thinking, Watson is there to make sense of the data and help make the process faster and more accurate. Watson for Oncology has an advanced ability to analyze the meaning and context of structured and unstructured data in clinical notes and reports, easily assimilating key patient information written in plain English that may be critical to selecting a treatment pathway. By combining attributes from the patient s file with clinical expertise, external research, and data, Watson Health solutions can identify potential treatment plans for a patient. This means doctors can consider the treatment options provided by Watson when making decisions for individual patients.
What is FHIR and why do we need it? What FHIR: Fast Health Interoperability Resources Focus: On API-related standards Broader community of mobile app and PHR developers There has been a need to share healthcare information electronically for a long time Increasing pressure to share data wider Across organizations, disciplines, even borders Mobile and cloud-based applications And faster integration in days or weeks, not months or years 26 3/14/17 Why HL7v2/v3/CDA cannot meet the needs of a cloudbased world Nothing suitable for light-weight integration, or for Health 2.0 : Ø V2 is old and limited by it s own rules Ø V3 is too slow and too hard Ø CDA has had the most success, but is both limited and still too hard Should we throw away those standards? Nope They are still useful and still supported They provide the foundation for FHIR FHIR s focus is on building API-related standards and the broader community of mobile app and Personal Health Record developers

Where are we heading next with IBM Healthcare Integration and Watson Health? Updates to be made to the IIB Healthcare pack: 1) Bring in line with the latest FHIR standards - Updated to STU2 at a minimum - Rich FHIR resource model 2) Introduce functionality that facilitates the transformation and routing of FHIR data. New patterns to include: - Transformation from HL7 v2 and CSV to FHIR - Transformation from FHIR to HL7 v2 and CSV 3) FHIR-based APIs providing interconnectivity between Watson Health and EMRs 28 3/14/17
