It continues to be a key component of Remedy s IT Service suite. 2 Remedy Asset Corporate Headquarters Remedy, a BMC Software company West Maude Avenue Sunnyvale, CA 94085, U.S.A. Tel: Fax: Internet: Overview Table 1: Overview: Remedy Asset 5.5 Product Type Product Function System Requirements IT asset management software A life-cycle asset solution that records and tracks all activity related to IT hardware and software components. 100MB hard drive space 64MB Server RAM Action Request System 5.5 Operating Systems Windows NT, 2000 and XP, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX and Linux. Supported Clients may be accessed via Web browser or Windows NT, 2000 and XP. Database Required Relational database recommended can integrate with any of: Oracle Informix Sybase MSSQL DB2 for Windows NT Base Price (US$) 35,000. Table 2: Features and Functions: Remedy Asset Repository Software License Reporting Inventory Phyical and Configuration Maintains details of hardware and software, leases, warranties and maintenance contracts. Can maintain license details and track license compliance. It also integrates with tools that provide usage information. 70 preset reports. Can integrate with report writing systems, such as Seagate Crystal, Remedy Reports and Remedy Flashboards. Out-of-the-box integration packages are also available for: HP OpenView Microsoft Systems Server (SMS) Tally TS.Census Tivoli Environment Users can: Set up preventative maintenance and asset review schedules Update asset records singularly or in bulk Track asset down time and usage logs Access a standard configuration catalog 19 December
3 Remedy Asset Table 2: Features and Functions: Remedy Asset Services Order Financial Import/Export Includes integration with Remedy Help Desk, Remedy Change and Remedy Service-Level Agreements, which all run on Action Request (AR) System. Provides Web-based purchase requisition, receiving and purchase order capabilities. It includes Web services for publishing purchase orders to enterprise resource planning (ERP) or suppliers. It also manages a standard asset catalog. Can provision asset-related costs, calculate chargebacks and allocate resources to individual or groups of cost centers. Can read/write in a range of formats including popular databases and spreadsheets. Analysis Remedy s Asset software is part of its IT Service (ITSM) suite intended to assist businesses in ensuring the best use of technology by employees. In addition to Asset, the suite includes Helpdesk, Change and Service-Level Agreement software. All Remedy software is based on and includes the AR system, which is designed to ensure interoperability between applications, even when they are from different vendors. Remedy s Asset, like all of its AR systems, assumes a thin-client configuration. Although this can be slower in use, it is not likely to be a problem with today s networks, which are increasing in speed to provide for much more bandwidth-intensive uses than access to a database. Furthermore, it is appropriate for the purpose, since the information held concerns the whole network. The reporting facilities here are particularly useful if an enterprise has already invested time and money in gaining skills in Seagate Crystal reporting, because this software is embedded into the software. Seagate s software accesses, consolidates, analyzes and manipulates data from a wide variety of sources. Crystal reports are known for the capability to distribute information in multiple formats without loss of security. The standard reports provide information from the point of view of the individual user or can report on the status of a range of assets across the organization. Assets can be considered singly or in bulk. Standard reports also exist for analyzing asset-related finances and ensuring license compliance and contract maintenance. Remedy and BMC Since BMC acquired Remedy, BMC has been incorporating Remedy in its approach to customers, specifically in BMC s Business Service (BSM) initiative. At the same time BMC is allowing Remedy to pursue its own set of business strategies and priorities focused on the service management market. The combination of Remedy s service management products and BMC s data and systems management solutions under the BSM umbrella has enabled both companies to deploy the combined solution sets together. Remedy Asset is the application within the Remedy IT Service suite that provides the single repository that stores details on IT assets, configurations and business processes. Remedy Asset provides control over the asset information that is leveraged across all the BSM processes. It is a critical element to the success of Remedy s Business Service strategy. 19 December
4 Remedy Asset Pricing Table 3: Price List: Remedy Asset Product Asset Base Price (US$) 35,000 for server, user licenses extra. Requires purchase of an AR System server and related user licenses. Max. Price (US$) Based on number of licenses, type of licenses (named or concurrent user) and configurations desired. Education Discount Leasins Multicopy Site License Pricing as of December GSA Pricing No. Competitors Computer Associates Unicenter Argis MRO Software MAXIMO MainControl Peregrine AssetCenter PS Soft Qualiparc Staff and Line Asset Frame Tangram Enterprise Insight Strengths Interoperability The Remedy Asset software is based on Action Request, which is designed for a high level of intercommunication between applications from different vendors. Seagate Crystal Reporting Customization of reports will be easy for those organizations with preexisting skills in Crystal reporting. Database Requirements Users can leverage their established database system rather than buying a specific database in order to use the Remedy product. Limitations Action Request System Required This is a prerequisite for use of any Remedy software, the cost of which must be taken into account. It may, however, present advantages in other areas in addition to enabling the interoperability of the asset management package. 19 December
5 Remedy Asset No Auto-Discovery Remedy does not consider it appropriate to provide this facility, as many organizations already have software capable of performing this task. Instead, Remedy provides interoperability with established autodiscovery tools. Through an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with LANDesk, Remedy will be offering auto-discovery as well as other configuration management tools in the first quarter of Insight The interoperability of the Remedy Asset offering seems to be designed to save the user time and money. By working with the user s established software, Remedy enables each user to carry on with established applications and simply add in Asset. The product is most useful when integrated with the rest of Remedy s Service suite, whereby it can exploit their functionality to match that of competing asset management products. The appeal of the product is its quick integration with other Remedy Service products and its ability to interoperate with third-party products thanks to its AR System foundation. 19 December
