For insurers the main change drivers are related to: Non-traditional players (NTPs) are competing with insurers to breakup and unbundle the traditional value chain of insurance with technology Customer centricity, the fundamental change in customer behavior, and the growing importance of new distribution channels such as internet, smartphones and social media is increasing Continuous regulatory changes in combination with digitalization is going to change existing business processes dramatically Cross-border selling has becoming easier and more popular. In combination with the long phase of low interest rates it is going to change product portfolios in some countries completely. Across the value chain it is product development and getting products to markets fast that could finally make a difference for insurers. Products are important differentiators and options to sell and offer the same product over different distribution channels are still rare from a technology perspective. 4 VP/MS Check of Modeling Conventions (Checker): Provides an automated consistency check of mutually agreed naming and modeling conventions over the entire modeling project Product Visualization (Styler): With Styler business users can simply generate GUIs at the click of a button without relying on conventional programming techniques. Input forms for Styler are simply created by dragging and dropping attributes and properties from the Workbench Actuarial Business Perspective (Architect): Provides a business-oriented view of product model architecture for all lines of business (Life & Protection, Property & Casualty, Health, Commercial). The result of the development components can be accompanied by additional tools that support several different system architecture options: Versatile Framework (J-VP/MS Base): J-VP/MS Base is the entrance to the Java world for the VP/MS Runtime Environment. It provides support for different usage and integration scenarios, and provides portability and flexibility across different platforms Multi-Platform Product Enabler (VP/MS Runtime): Shares entire product information across different platforms and is completely platform independent. The runtime behavior can be tested automatically with a platform dependent test utility (VP/MS Runtime Test Utility) Virtualization Environment (VP/MS XE Server): VP/MS XE Server is part of a virtualization scenario for the VP/MS Runtime Environment. It provides a remote interface for the VP/MS Runtime. Thus the VP/MS Runtime Environment is running remotely under the control of VP/MS XE Server in different scenarios. VP/MS XE Server also supports Web services User Interface Generator (VP/MS Styler Runtime Environment): A small interface including the HTML framework that allows UI s for on- and offline environments. It follows the same base philosophy of build once deploy to many different platforms as VP/MS Runtime Environment. It supports HTML 5 and SWT user interface design. A strict separation between tools that support business requirements and tools that support IT requirements of product development is the base for modular and component-based product development. Thus reducing development costs and time to market will become reality. As a consequence VP/MS becomes the central medium for any kind of product knowledge within a company, a so called product server. A product server is a software component which gathers all knowledge on insurance products centrally and provides it to all application systems in various deployment scenarios.
