1 PROIV Product Update Webinar Summary of Announcement 21 st July

2 NGA Software Services announce PROIV Updates Overview On 21 st July 2016 we announced significant and important updates regarding the next steps in the evolution of the PROIV Development Platform. We provided updates on v8.x and specifically the new feature sets which will be available in v8.3 and then went onto to provide an overview of the shape of v9.x. In addition to the product roadmap and update was provided regarding progress in our support offer as well as a new series of free online events called Let s Talk being delivered by our Professional Services team. PROIV Roadmap We understand how important is to our customers to have visibility of the release schedule, in helping you better plan for the future. We expect the product roadmap to progress as follows: Key dates June R1 Released December R0 Performance Monitor Release April R1 July End of Life Issued September R2 December R0 New Major Version April R1 June R3 August R2 December 2018 v8 End Of Life 9.1R0 Ships V8.2R1 JSON Import / Export Released in June 2016 v8.2r1 introduces support for JSON Import / Export. This is a new way of sharing PROIV application source code objects. It uses plain textual files containing JSON representations of functions. With a new naming level concept, it aligns PROIV with mainstream development platforms. Export can be directly to the file system or a new archive (PAR) file format. To aid productivity, the existing Auto Book In/Out feature has been enhanced to allow easier synchronization of your source code with a standard repository. The ability to export PROIV source code using JSON representation is key to the future migration path to v9.x. We therefore urge all of our clients to start adopting this industry standard method for source code management at the earliest opportunity. 2

3 PROIV V8.3 V8.3 is scheduled for general availability in December 2016 and further enhances and evolves the PROIV Statistics and Profiling into the Performance Monitor. We see this as an important development within the product, enabling developers of complex and large scale applications to be able to investigate and resolve performance issues. In advance of a performance issue arising, the Performance Monitor can be used to tune and optimize an application to drive greater ROI from hardware and infrastructure investements. The key aspects of the PROIV Performance monitor are: To extend the application profile technology introduced in the previous release to all product components participating in a transaction. Therefore providing an end to end view of a transaction allowing you to explore which areas of your application consume the most time. A web based monitor allowing analysis of not only live running interactive sessions but also web service and Task activity. We have introduced the ability to set response thresholds and alerts within Control Panel along with historic Web Service performance metrics scoring. PROIV V9 V9 is due to be released in December 2017 and is set to be a very substantial evolution. In v9.0 you will benefit from: A completely new Integrated Development Environment (IDE) utilizing the very popular and industry standard Eclipse Platform. A major enhancement to the Virtual Machine giving support Unicode and introducing a new Gen Process. Through the introduction of Unicode and enhanced string support, we will remove limitations currently in place around strings. These will be indexed as characters and not bytes, with no requirement to define their size, strings will adjust in size dynamically and they will be unbounded. With the introduction of new Gen process we will implement the use of name spaces, allowing segregation of objects. The Gen process will also operate in terms of the JSON source documents with GENFILE and other runtime files to be replaced with an object file concept and lastly the objects files will be packaged into the new PAR file released in v8.2r1. The new and enhanced IDE based on Eclipse is envisaged to offer many features including: Greatly enhanced source code manipulation of PROIV source documents. Enhanced team functionality enabling much improved multi-developer working. Context sensitive Logic editor. Searching and refactoring tools based around PROIV Objects. Forms Designer will be replaced with a Graphical Screen Designer. Running of PROIV functions within the IDE for easier and faster development. 3

5 Updates on Support Services Much progress has been made on the development of the Support web portal and the implementation of customized views depending upon individual client s service levels. The support service itself has been operationally enhanced to enable easier program management. This is translating to real benefits to our clients. Service NOW (also known as SNOW) is fully operational and providing the underlying problem ticketing system to our clients that have chosen to subscribe to either Gold or Platinum support. We took the opportunity to remind our clients that to help us deliver the best service back to you, providing reproducible test cases is a vital part of the problem logging system. This enables us to work on identifying a solution across our global team in the most effective manner, as well as testing possible patches quickly, and being certain that we are addressing the very same problem you are experiencing. Our support levels remain unchanged and the following table is reproduced as a reminder of the types of service available at each level. Giving clients the flexibility to select the most appropriate support level for their needs has proved very successful. 5

6 PROIV Let s Talk sessions Helping our clients understand the newest features of the PROIV Development Platform and how to leverage them quickly and efficiently within their applications is key very important to us. It ensures that our clients maximize their return on investment whilst helping us to keep the community up to date with applications that show case PROIV at its very best. To help drive this sharing of knowledge, our Professional Services team have created a series of free, interactive sessions called Let s Talk. These online events are scheduled on a monthly basis and limited in numbers to enable true participation and knowledge between delegates as from the lead consultant. The following table shows the currently planned events, but these are subject to change based on demand from the PROIV community. 6
