He is a graduate of West Point and the Command and General Staff College and is now a Major in the US Army Reserves where he leverages analytics and advanced visualizations to for national security purposes as the head of US Strategic Command's Big Data Initiative. As a Military Intelligence professional along with being a Business Analytics and Big Data specialist, Jeff has leveraged first-hand, the value of informational insight of properly arrayed analytics can yield, insight that ranges from saving millions of dollars, to saving hundreds of lives A technology executive with expertise in strategy and organizational leadership, Tom has held various roles spanning product and technical marketing, product management, and platform design with industry leaders such as Intel, HP and AMD. Tom has deep experience in both the technical and business aspects of cloud, from building net new born in the cloud applications to defining and bringing to market IaaS/PaaS product portfolios from the cloud service provider perspective. Prior to joining Oracle, Tom was responsible for leading marketing for Rackspace s new managed services offer for AWS. 2

13 Project Goals and Process Our Implementation of 3 Oracle Cloud Environments and all development work on custom ETL, warehousing, surveying and Endeca 3.2 was set for an aggressive 4 month deployment to synch with the beginning of our fiscal year. Our Team: Six Developers Four Business Analysts Oracle liaisons While Rapid Resource Manager supports thousands of users, the Information Discovery environment is scaled to only service Resource Managers numbering about sixty. 14 Project Outcomes Staffing Analytics is transforming our Resource Management team, as well as it is effecting the way Grant Thornton conducts its business. Our insights of this solution: 1. We have a method to swiftly assign the right resource to the right project in seconds 2. We can now identify unforeseen opportunities to staff underutilized resources, increasing our utilization and thus our profitability 3. We now have the power to look at capacity trends, what skills are most needed and when, and can shape our business to be proactive versus reactive. Proactivity means profitability 14

18 Benefits IT Administration Savings A troubled IT Administration staff now has increased controls and improvements embedded in all of the Oracle solutions. This allows the IT staff added time, that they can designate to parallel development on other tracks This project seemed ambitious considering our small IT footprint, but The Oracle Cloud acted as a great solution. Originally, the anticipated rollout strategy was one year This was reduced to only four months because of the Cloud Now, we can leverage our discovery system and start increasing our utilization and profits 19

19 Benefits Analytics Capacity The improvements in standardization, validations, and overall confidence in posted data allow analysts to spend their time analyzing data instead of data consolidation Typically, Data Normalization takes 90% of an analyst's time, while the other 10% is spent on Data Analysis. Staffing Analytics allows analysts the data faster and decreases the potential for bottlenecks. This results in only 10% of an analyst's time to be spent on Data Normalization, while the other 90% can be spent on Data Analysis. 20
