21 Industrie 4.0 Smart Factory Definition The Future of Automated Manufacturing. The merging of the virtual and the physical worlds through cyber-physical systems and the resulting fusion of technical processes and business processes are leading the way to a new industrial age best defined by the Industrie 4.0 project's "smart factory" concept. Example for smart factory SAP SE / SAP UCC Magdeburg. All rights reserved. 21

22 Industrie 4.0 Smart Factory Characteristics The smart Factory should comprise of and is focused on creating intelligent processes, products, equipment and enable people to work in this environment (IT systems) All components (human beings, machines, products and objects), due to the built-in sensors, should communicate with each other as naturally as in a social network, without human intervention Nowadays sensor technologies become cheaper and more available. Thus, almost any process can now be measured 2017 SAP SE / SAP UCC Magdeburg. All rights reserved. 22

23 Industrie 4.0 Smart Factory Intelligent Machines and Processes Plant, equipment, tools, products/objects, databases and people are interconnected and continuously exchanging the information with each other. Every system is able to recognize its condition and publish that information so it and all other interoperating devices can take immediate and appropriate action SAP SE / SAP UCC Magdeburg. All rights reserved. 23

24 Industrie 4.0 Smart Factory Flexible and Reconfigurable Machinery and Work Stations easily upgradable and reconfigurable machine/cell/plants are important to achieving flexible and responsive manufacturing processes European Commission: FACTORIES OF THE FUTURE This includes : Development of embedded cognitive functions for supporting the use of machinery and robot systems Advanced sensing and perception, combined with robust behavior with respect to unforeseen changes Development of self-monitoring and self-healing capabilities of machinery 2017 SAP SE / SAP UCC Magdeburg.
