SERVICES OVERVIEW OF INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS Introduction Infrastructure Management Systems, LLC (IMS) has built a team of internationally recognized industry leaders to provide Customers with a comprehensive solution for understanding the assets which are currently in place, the condition of those assets, how to manage the maintenance of those assets to maximize cost efficiency, and to plan for future growth. IMS can map, determine the current condition, and establish a system for management of all assets for pipelines, refineries, tank farms, production facilities, wells, and distribution facilities. It is our experience working with oil & gas and other types of firms with significant capital investments in infrastructure and facilities, that most do not have the detailed information necessary to plan and budget for maintenance of these assets or provide a vision for future development in the most cost effective or efficient ways. The IMS team can provide all components necessary to collect and manage the information required and the tools to manage the assets over the long term. Specifically IMS can provide: GIS and Asset Management Analysis and Planning Aerial mapping Aerial mapping (ortho, oblique, LIDAR) Ground based mapping Underground mapping Application of Mapping Technologies/Condition Assessment Software to manage asset maintenance (inspection, maintenance, budgeting, etc.) Building interior mapping 3D Modeling GIS and Asset Management Analysis and Planning As the first step toward implementing the necessary technology IMS will perform a comprehensive review of the current status of GIS and related asset data and information systems within the Oil and Gas Industry both up stream and down. This planning process will clearly identify specific needs for GIS and asset management databases and present the best technical approach for maximizing the utility of current data systems while enhancing them with mapping and asset management functions.
This analysis will involve the following: A review of existing operations and assets of each agency and department An analysis of the problems and limitations encountered in business operations caused by a lack of current information or failures of information management systems A review of alternatives to improve corporate understanding of asset conditions and management issues Development of an implementation and data gathering plan Aerial Mapping: Ortho Imagery Using aircraft based sensors we can provide extremely accurate and detailed imagery (orthographic imagery and oblique imagery) that can be used to create a GIS database of all features visible in the images. This imagery can have a resolution with features smaller than 2.5 cm shown, and can be used to create a GIS database. This GIS database then will serve as the foundation for the asset management system. Examples included in this document are from IMS partner Sanborn Mapping Company, Inc. and their project currently underway for Qatar Petroleum. Aerial mapping: Oblique Imagery Oblique imagery can be provided to give additional information and views of facilities to assist planners, facility maintenance teams, and emergency responders (fire, ambulance crews) to understand the best way to access and address facilities. This type of imagery can be used to measure height of features, understand distances between items, and provide a full picture of facilities.
Aerial Mapping: LIDAR, a laser technology that can be used to create extremely accurate elevation data, can be used from aircraft to build very detailed terrain and 3D models. These terrain data sets can be used for pre-construction engineering, calculation of storm water retention requirements, and for modeling flood potential. In addition the data can be used to create very accurate 3D models of buildings and industrial facilities. Surface with Non-Terrain Artifacts (green) Surface with Classified DTM
Ground Based Mapping IMS can provide mobile mapping from a variety of platforms (van, 4-wheel ATV, railroad, boat) that can provide even more detailed data on the location and condition of assets. Mobile mapping can be used to understand those features not clearly visible from an aircraft, and provide automated condition assessment of some feature such as roadways and signs. Vehicle mounted LIDAR, GPS, still cameras, video cameras, and ground penetrating RADAR can all be mounted on a vehicle to provide the tools necessary to build sophisticated GIS databases including the condition of assets. All of these resources can be combined to create a base map GIS that is up to date and reflects the basic information about the assets currently in place and establishes a foundation for all information management activities.
Underground mapping The location of underground oil & gas pipelines, electric and fiber optic cables, water lines, and wastewater lines can be a critically important set of information. IMS team members can provide ground penetrating radar along with cutting edge smart probe technologies to map the location of buried lines up to 150 feet beneath the surface. A typical application of these technologies begins at a known pipe location, generally at a valve or pump station, and traces the location and depth of the line from its source to its endpoint. These surveys can also be accomplished on high value vacant parcels where the potential location of pipelines is unknown. In these cases intersecting transepts are run in a suitable pattern across the property to ensure that all potential buried infrastructure features are identified and mapped in 3 dimensions prior to initiation of development. Application of Mapping Technologies/Condition Assessment All mapping technologies can be used as an as built check on contractors to make certain they have installed infrastructure to the specifications of the contract (for pavement thickness for example) and to map recently completed projects to keep databases accurate and up to date. These technologies will create a geolocated database that can support asset management systems. The condition of all assets can be established through automated methods or through visual inspection. Software to manage asset maintenance (inspection, maintenance, budgeting, etc.) VueWorks is asset management software designed to integrate GIS data with other traditional information resources to help organizations prioritize where and when facility maintenance work needs to be completed, develop maintenance and
replacement budgets based on the condition of critical assets, and provide life cycle management of all resource. VueWorks features tools that include the following functions: Strategic Asset Management o Track Condition, depreciation & value; Prioritize consequence of failure; Forecast capital budget needs; Create & Manage capital projects Work Management o Document & track customer or user issues; Create & track work orders; Manage time and expenses for labor and equipment; Manage quantity & expenses for inventor Map & Data Sharing o Web browser based; View maps and data; Manage users Search and Report; Display and manage layers ; List & edit attributes; link documents and data; Manage facilities 3D Modeling
The IMS team has capabilities to develop 3D models of refineries, industrial areas, residential areas, and city centers. These 3D models are spatially accurate and can be developed with photo realistic features. Interior Mapping Many of the mapping capabilities for exterior resources can be accomplished inside of facilities such as office buildings, warehouses, residences, and production facilities. Mobile LIDAR and video technologies make the mapping and subsequent tracking of interior assets possible. Mobile LIDAR can move through a facility and the point data collected is extracted to create interior 3D maps which include the location of assets. These interior maps can be used to track space utilization, and assets within the space (such as furniture, equipment, etc.). The interior 3D maps are valuable to provide detailed information to first responders who may need to respond to emergency situations inside of unfamiliar structures.
