1 JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Responsible to: IT Network Manager Director of Operations The IT Network Manager is responsible for leading, managing and supporting all technical aspects of both curriculum and administrative IT within the school in Lympstone and four nurseries in Exmouth and Exeter and a finance office in Exmouth. The IT Network Manager will be responsible for keeping the company at the forefront of IT. IT in this job description includes the provision of all Computers, Network Hardware and Infrastructure, Software, Communications and Access Control systems. The IT Network Manager will be based at St Peter s Preparatory School, Lympstone and will be expected to drive to the nurseries and finance office as required. Mileage will be reimbursed for journeys from the school, when travelling on business, to and from the nurseries and the finance office. DUTIES Strategic Planning Develop medium and long-term coordinated planning based on the school s and the nurseries educational and business objectives to keep the school and nurseries up to date with developments in IT, communications and electronic security systems. Plan for major developments of the IT service and project manage their implementation. In conjunction with the Director of Operations, develop IT strategically within the school and nurseries to achieve a safe and efficient IT environment for staff and pupils. In conjunction with the Director of Operations, define a relevant Service Level Agreement for the company and manage this SLA through the use of the helpdesk system. Within the SLA to be available to staff to resolve daily issues. Advise the Senior Management Team and Finance Director on emerging technologies as appropriate. Support the full range of financial planning for IT, through the identification, planning and costing of all future developments and upgrades to achieve best value for the company. 2 Be a member of the School s ICT Development Committee & attend other relevant meetings where the IT service is discussed and input is required. Have a good understanding of GDPR to support Director of Operations in implementation. Resource Management Respond quickly and efficiently to maintenance issues. Prioritise to ensure limited disruption to key teaching and learning resources. Set support priorities, balancing response to support requests with the need to follow planned monitoring and maintenance, in the context of staff availability and wider IT service demands. Recommend and manage the relevant IT budgets and, in conjunction with the Director of Operations, achieve best value for the company s IT expenditure. Support the company in ordering, stocking and replenishing IT consumables. Ensure that legal and contractual obligations relating to IT resources, software licensing, safeguarding, systems and services are met. Ensure that as far as possible pupils are not exposed to inappropriate materials on the internet. Manage and implement the installation of all new IT related hardware & software as required, enabling the delivery of IT to all operational areas. Maintain a hardware inventory with new and updated equipment, removing old hardware. Maintain an up to date inventory of ICT software and licences for the school, nurseries and finance office. Design and implement the company policy on asset disposal. Through this you will be responsible for the efficient disposal of old hardware. Liaise with and manage external contractors as appropriate. Development and maintenance of technical systems Resolve problems associated with Operating Systems, cabled and wireless networks, software, hardware, and printers around the school, nurseries and finance office. Ensure virus protection is kept up to date. Ensure all company IT systems are fully operational at all times. Ensure projectors are actively maintained. Maintain the school domain, adding and deleting staff and pupils as they join or leave the school. Create accounts, carry out password resets, print system allowance adjustments, smare management access and control. Advise the Senior Management Team on the implementation of IT policies and procedures. Assist and take an active role in the development of MIS packages (Furlong/Schoolbase and Famly) and all evaluation processes. Work with the JD for IT Network Manager - February 2018 Page 2 of 5

3 company helpdesks to ensure the operations of the MIS systems work efficiently for the company. Assist the marketing team when required with the school s website and liaise when requested with website designers and SEO consultants. Design, implement, monitor and review company procedures for managing and recording installations and configuration changes. Design, implement and manage the network infrastructure to meet the company's requirements. Manage active network components including switches, routers and wireless access points (mainly Meraki); maintain, repair and install additional servers as required; keep the network operating system up to date and oversee the maintenance of all network workstations. Provide in-school, finance office and nursery support for troubleshooting on PCs, peripherals and applications. Advise on compatibility of hardware, applications and operating systems, according to user requirements. Manage and be responsible for the internal working of the school s Management Information Systems, primarily SchoolBase, and any other related school systems; act as the Data Manager for SchoolBase and for ClarionCall. Liaise closely with the SMT to ensure that the MIS meets the School s requirements and liaise with the providers as needed. Manage the company s telephony and access control systems. Oversee company printing solutions. Ensure all current and planned web-based technologies remain fully operational. Manage the functioning and deployment of applications on ipads held at school and the Nurseries. Sustain and develop the company s security and back-up systems and plan disaster recovery contingencies to enable an efficient return of service after any unforeseen system outages. Develop, implement and maintain the company s IT Security systems. Manage and maintain the school and nurseries growing network of Apple Macintosh computers, chromebooks, laptops and mini ipad tablets. Manage all installed Microsoft technologies and other software and any other relevant network services. Manage Internet access filtering, filtering and related monitoring systems. In conjunction with the PA to the Head and the Registrar & Marketing Manager, implement and manage the School s future digital signage systems. Upgrade relevant systems, as appropriate and by agreement with the Director of Operations, out of normal business hours to ensure minimum downtime for staff during critical periods. This includes using school holiday periods to time major changes at St Peter s during periods when children and teaching staff are on leave. JD for IT Network Manager - February 2018 Page 3 of 5

4 Developing the expertise of others in emerging technologies Conduct training on appropriate use of IT resources, MIS, document systems and procedures. Support staff with IT related problems. Produce and analyse reports on support requests for management purposes; advise the Senior Management Team on possible training activities based on support log analysis. To undertake available training opportunities and demonstrate a commitment to continuous development. Hold training sessions for support and teaching staff end users on company technologies based on the requirements of the company. Standards and Quality Assurance Support the aims and ethos of the company. Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance. Attend and participate in presentations for parents and pupil performances / productions supporting technology as required. Uphold the school s code of conduct and uniform regulations. Attend team and staff meetings as required. Be familiar with all school and company policies, both those pertaining to support staff and school life in general, and ensure they are accurately and consistently implemented. Knowledge and experience Microsoft Active Directory experience. Understanding of computer systems and networks. Previous experience of working in an IT environment. Understanding of internet security and data privacy. Understanding of GDPR. Full UK driving licence. Experience of the following technologies would be useful VOIP. IOS. Linux.
