3 3 Long Range Transit Planning: The Good Old Days

4 Data Availability 4 If you had GIS and knew who to ask, you might be able to find: Current population Census data Forecast Data No one person had access to all the data in one easy to find place.

5 Transit Modeling 5 Transit networks were built by PSRC staff in our model software Only a handful of people had licenses to this software in the region We had to digitize the routes and time tables from printed documents PSRC staff made the assumptions and it was hard for others to see what we had done.

6 Regional Coordination 6 Meetings, , handouts and shapefiles Difficult to really integrate analysis Required a lot of back and forth and mark-ups It was difficult to share exactly what one another was doing or planning.

7 PSRC Sketch Tools 7 Developed by modelers with an intention of being used by others but: TCI required specific GIS software Service Planning Tool required database software and a server that few had access to Tools were not widely utilized

9 Regional Access to Remix 9 The region s transit agencies and PSRC were awarded a Transit Coordination Grant to test the use of Remix for a variety of Transit Planning uses in the region through June These include: Service Planning Long Range Planning Title VI analysis

10 What is Remix? 10 Remix is a commercially available software that is available for use on a subscription basis and is: Web Based Runs in the cloud Does not require any specialized software or modeling abilities to use

11 Remix Maps 11 Every user can create and share their maps Built from GTFS Overlay on Open Street Maps Maps automatically stored in the cloud

12 Remix provides access to many data layers 12 Build a map while you look at % of low income households Future people or jobs Minority, Zero Car HH s,

14 When you are done, share your work 14 Maps can be sent to anyone with a web browser to look at If the person has access to Remix, they can make a copy of your map, make changes and get it back to you Export to GTFS can provide convenient input to travel models

15 How is PSRC using Remix? 15 To develop an integrated transit network for the Transportation 2040 Update: Get future networks from all our transit partners Put the route building in the hands of those who know what they are doing and spend our time doing ridership forecasting Sharing our work in the development of a long range plan We are following the successful use of Remix by King County Metro and Pierce Transit Remix pioneers in Washington.
