Since its formation in 1993, Balmoral Tanks has become the world's largest single source designer and manufacturer of liquid storage and treatment products. Covering the chemical, environmental, water, wastewater and fuel sectors, the enterprise designs and manufactures rotationally moulded seamless tanks, hot press moulded GRP and steel sectional water tanks, air pollution control systems, cabinets and housings. Hot press moulded GRP sectional tanks, in a variety of panel sizes, are produced and used to store potable and non-potable water on a global basis. These tank panels are designed for use in varying climatic conditions and can be provided with integrated insulation. Hot pressed steel tanks are designed and manufactured by Balmoral-owned Horseley Bridge Tanks. Established in 1880, it is the oldest tank manufacturing company in the world and the pioneer of bolted sectional water tanks. Rotationally moulded tanks ranging from capacities of 500 to 75,000 litres are currently produced, and it is this flexibility and comprehensive product range that gives Balmoral Tanks its competitive advantage. The vast majority of Balmoral Tanks products are accredited and approved by numerous agencies: BBA; IAB; IP; LPCB; OFTEC and WRAS to name but a few. In gaining these accreditations Balmoral has raised the integrity and standards of the tank industry around the world.

3 Synonymous with product development, technical excellence and manufacturing efficiency, innovation lies at the heart of Balmoral Group. It drives everything the Group does. Huge investments have been made in research and development over the years and the company benefits from its own laboratory and testing facilities. The very latest in computer aided design (CAD) and finite element analysis (FEA) software is available to the company's engineering design team to complement the 21st century manufacturing plant on the factory floor. This investment has propelled Balmoral to the peak of the hot press and rotational moulding industries. Design The design of each sectional tank panel is modelled using FEA software. This allows fine detail to be thoroughly investigated and improved before proceeding to mouldmaking and production. Materials All materials used in the production and assembly of Balmoral GRP tanks are rigorously tested for potable water compatibility. This includes long term material performance and mechanical properties, non-metallic components, adhesives, etc. Combined, these analyses form the basis of the company s extensive QC procedures. Engineering innovation Manufacturing process Balmoral sectional tank panels are hot press moulded in glass reinforced plastics (GRP) using isophthalic unsaturated polyester resins and electrical glassfibre reinforcement. The panels are moulded at temperatures up to 150 C under strict quality control disciplines. The process results in strong, consistent panels which are fully cured, dimensionally accurate with sharply defined profiles and smooth surfaces on both faces. Drilling and finishing of the panels is undertaken in a purpose built controlled area, where high technology automated drilling equipment is used to complete production to exacting tolerance levels. Thermal insulation Balmoral Sectional Tanks uses expanded polystyrene (EPS) materials in its thermally insulated panels. This is made using a pentane expansion agent which is CFC and HCFC free and can be recycled by melting down and reforming. 4 Tank construction The Balmoral range of sectional GRP tanks may be specified as either externally flanged base (EFB) or internally flanged base (IFB). This allows the use of either flat continuous foundations, close centre beams, pier walls or bearer beams depending upon the type of base required. The internally built tank (IBT) to be supported as standard on an IFB foundation. The EFB specification is fully self draining allowing ease of maintenance and cleaning. 6 Fire fighting sprinkler systems Balmoral M100 and M100-B30 sectional tanks are Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) approved for fire fighting sprinkler systems. Sprinkler systems must comply with BS 5306 Part 2: 1990 A type AB air gap is required unless connected to a dedicated water supply Internal ladders should be stainless steel. External ladders compliant with BS 4211 Water level indication is required on sprinkler tanks The water in sprinkler tanks tends to be inactive for long periods of time. Immersion heaters or other means of preventing freezing may be required In the event of a fire, large quantities of continuous flow are required. If a vortex inhibitor is fitted, the volume of water that can be drawn from the tank is increased without the inclusion of air or a reduction in the flow rate. 8 GRP one-piece tanks Balmoral one-piece tanks are manufactured to BS 13280:2001 standard using high quality glass reinforced polyester (GRP) resins. The tanks comply with UK Water Supply Regulations 1999 and have been tested and approved by WRAS.
