Milestones in the history of the SCHOMBURG company group 1936 Albert Fritz Schomburg, Sr. founded a distributorship for chemical building materials in Detmold First production, research + development with chemist Dr. A. 6 A worldwide market presence... National locations The headquarters of the SCHOMBURG company group is located in Detmold (North-Rhine Westphalia), Germany. All national and international activities are coordinated from there. Most production for Germany and for export takes place in Detmold and Halle / Saale. Other locations in Germany guarantee a domestic blanket coverage supply with short delivery times. 6

7 International locations The company group is represented globally by independent sales and production companies. The know-how of the Schomburg Group is sought after and acknowledged making it a basis for global technology transfer. Since the company was founded the number of overseas subsidiaries has been constantly on the increase. In 2002 there were 18 companies overseas. The majority of overseas representations are either 100% subsidiaries or 50/50 joint ventures. Several SCHOMBURG overseas companies also produce products on site for the local market and the neighbouring overseas countries, through which the SCHOMBURG system building materials become even more attractive thanks to savings in import duties and transport costs. Cooperation concepts Apart from the subsidiaries there are also other forms of cooperation which are applied both in Germany and overseas, such as trading and distribution partners (with and without investments of the parent company) as well as resale under private label or production under licence according to a highly developed, innovative and inexpensive local production concept. Besides the forms of cooperation such as joint-venture, subsidiary and investment, the SCHOMBURG company group offers a compact production plant for powder products. With our R&D know-how for adapting different raw materials, this low-priced production concept is suitable in all countries. 8 Waterproofi ng... Quality through competency and innovation Almost all building materials will suffer at least some damage in the course of time due to the unimpeded access of moisture. Preventing water ingress is the pre-requisite for any successful repair and maintenance program. For more than 25 years the core competence of the SCHOMBURG Group has been in the development and production of effective and economical product systems for waterproofi ng and restoration of buildings and structures. The main applications for our product systems are: The sealing of interior and exterior foundations using fl exible slurry type coatings and bituminous waterproofi ng. The systems AQUAFIN-2K and COMBIFLEX-C2 have been leaders in the European market for many years. High-Tech processing procedures with modern injection technology also provide economical and time-saving solutions for projects with large surface areas. NEW SYSTEM AQUAFIN-POOL AQUAFIN-IC For the particularly cost-effective waterproofi ng of all new and old concrete substrates we recommend using AQUAFIN-IC, a penetrating crystalline AQUAFIN-2K COMBIFLEX-C2 slurry type coating. The system remains AQUAFIN-IC also provides excellent permanently active and post-seals contraction cracks up to 0.4 mm. static pressure (up to 13 bar negative side protection against hydro- water pressure). 8

9 Restoration of buildings... The repair of damp and salt-contaminated interior and exterior walls, i.e. in the case of historic buildings is another major area for our product systems: Our THERMOPAL restoration mortars are appreciated not only for their reliable effect, but also for their excellent processing properties. The system is rounded off by AQUAFIN-F, which seals walls against capillary rising damp. A patented technology with reusable packers and an easy to use injection lance is available for injecting the products. This technology employs a controlled dosage system, which in most cases reduces the amount of sealing material needed. Stronger waterproof more resistant! Real high performance concrete can be produced with the innovative super plasticizing BETOCRETE 406 (FM). This unique product signifi cantly lowers the water/cement ratio, increasing concrete strength up to 60% and dramatically reducing water penetration. BETOCRETE 406 also offers high resistance to aggressive chemicals and protects the concrete against CO2 attack. Capillary pores are sealed through the formation of calcium silicate hydrates. This prevents the penetration of water and aggressive media. 12

13 Industrial fl oorings / water protection... Coatings: For cementitious fl oor and wall surfaces, e.g. in production and storage rooms, on loading ramps, stairs and roads. System coatings: For reinforced concrete, concrete, plaster and underlayments in secondary containment areas, production and storage rooms for hazardous liquids. Industrial coatings: Thin coatings ( mm) are used for the surface protection of industrial fl oor areas subject to medium to strong chemical and mechanical stress The choice of layer thicknesses depends on the degree of chemical and mechanical stress. The coatings can be applied with either a smooth or non-slip fi nish as desired. Our unique epoxy based vapor barrier ASODUR-SG2 effectively seals slabs and walls against both vapor and moisture. Unlike most epoxies, ASODUR- SG2 can be used to treat fresh concrete and to seal damp or oil contaminated slabs. In addition to functioning as a stand alone coating, ASODUR-SG2 forms an effective vapor barrier under numerous coatings and fl ooring systems, such as vinyl, laminates, carpets, epoxies and synthetic fl ooring. 13
