2 Kriblok Comprising reinforced precast concrete components specially designed to interlock with each other, the Kriblok gravity wall retaining system enables the rapid construction of stable, attractive earth retention schemes without the need for mortar or special fixings The Kriblok system is available in a range of component sizes, to ensure costeffective solutions for a wide variety of situations. Each range consists of only two basic components, a header unit and a stretcher unit, with header units available in a choice of lengths. This, together with the fact that the Kriblok system can be erected to form concave or convex radii as well as internal or external corners using standard components, simplifies both design and specification procedures. Ease of Construction On site, Kriblok units are simply assembled to create a series of interlocking cribs which are then filled with granular free draining material to provide a high performance gravity wall structure. Simple in its concept and yet extremely effective in application, Kriblok offers the strength and versatility to cope with virtually all earth retention problems. Design RPC Contracts experience and knowledge of retaining wall systems is applied to a free, site specific design service for Kriblok customers. Analysing customer requirements and site conditions, we are able to recommend the most cost effective Kriblok solution to the wide variety of earth retention situations which may be experienced in different applications and provide designs for the appropriate Kriblok retaining wall system. 3 Case Studies M6/M42 Widening The Client required a retaining wall system that would not only meet the stringent design, quality and life expectancy demanded for highways, it also had to be speedy to install, flexible in design and construction to enable alternations to be made rapidly to meet the changes in ground conditions that would be encountered without disruption to the supply chain and installation. RPC s Kriblok was specified because of its ability to meet all criteria because: 1. Design can be constantly updated to suit variable ground conditions 2. This resulted in the need for an earth retaining structure which was capable of retaining heights of up to 10 metres, was quick to build, required no special ground preparation and could allow a variety of as-dug material to be re-used without expensive and difficult earthworks treatments. RPC Contracts Kriblok senior system was chosen as it met all the site requirements while also satisfying the client s need for an extensive design life (125 years) and a cost-effective solution. RPC Contracts in-house team designed the structure and its foundations and the installation was carried out and completed in 12 weeks, including the construction of foundations and all the required backfilling.
