5 WINNER: Designer Construction Group NSW Forest Lodge Eco Home has set a new benchmark for inner city residential redevelopment. The home embraces ground breaking technology and adopts age old principles to harness the benefits from nature. The designers were not deterred by the constraints of the small block with the home featuring a garden, green roof to collect energy, heat and water. The design of the home considers many aspects including passive solar design to create a comfortable and energy smart dwelling HIA GREENSMART HOME OF THE YEAR
6 2014 HIA GREENSMART HOME OF THE YEAR FINALISTS Killarney Homes Northern Territory The striking aspect of this winning spec home is its distinct architectural character, arising from an appropriate response to Darwin s seasons. A house such as this not only promotes energy efficiency but also comfort and health for its occupants. The home revives the architecture of the region with its deep shading, generous outdoor living areas, raised floor and breezy spaces. MyStyle Homes (QLD) Pty Ltd North Queensland This 8.5 star energy rated home achieves an environmentally sustainable footprint. The use of on-site power generation allows the home to go off the grid. Other features include passive solar design, thermal mass, as well as products that have the highest available standard of energy efficiency currently on the market. Positive Footprints Victoria This project home is a holistic example of modern sustainable living which embodies sustainability. This has been achieved through the thoughtful use of reverse brick veneer construction, waffle slab, lightweight claddings as well as significant planting of fruit producing plants. The 9 star energy rating has been achieved by the highly efficient use of water and energy, including a solar system and redwater thermal transfer valves and grey water diversion valves for water re-use.

23 WINNER: Highbury Homes and Solar Dwellings Western Australia This house is a first-rate example of a resource efficient home featuring high efficiency shower heads, tap ware and appliances. Low volume dual flush toilets have integrated hand basins which use the water from the basin to fill the cistern. The house has a direct diversion grey water system to provide irrigation to the garden and a rainwater tank for all internal use. It s designed to eliminate the high logistic cost of delivering and installing standard tanks. Once assembled the tank can hold 1,000 litres but can be expanded to 2,000 litres in later versions. He has developed a construction and demolition material recovery facility and recycling system. His initiative helps to reduce construction waste and promote the reuse of recycled materials.
