5 GUIDE TO SYMBOLS The following key identifies which regulations apply to each joinery product which will be marked with the symbols displayed MOBILITY & ACCESS Part M of the Building Regulations covers the requirements for access and facilities for disabled people in relation to buildings and their immediate environments. These requirements include wider doors and reduced threshold heights (selected sizes only).* 2010 WARMTH & THERMAL INSULATION FOR NEW BUILD Doors complying with Building Regulations Part L provide a greater thermal efficiency to the dwelling. Part L meets the requirements of 2.0W/m 2 K. or below. Please refer to Part L of the Building Regulations for specific situational u-value requirements RESISTANCE TO THE PASSAGE OF SOUND Building Regulation Part E stipulates requirements covering sound control and reduction. In certain instances in dwellings, for example when used in entrances to flats or apartments, doors are required to demonstrate an appropriate decibel reduction value. Enhanced sound control within doors may also apply in specific commercial, educational and health related buildings FIRE SAFETY Doors complying with Building Regulations Part B have been formally tested as a fire resistant barrier for a defined period, most commonly 30 or 60 minutes. When correctly installed, fire doors offer protection of escape routes for building occupants and contribute to maintaining the fabric of the building under fire conditions. FD30 & FD60 Benchmarx Fire Doors are tested to BS476: Part 22: 1987 achieving fire resistance up to 30 minutes (FD30) or 60 minutes (FD60) when hung and installed in accordance with the instructions provided with the door. DOUBLE GLAZED & TRIPLE GLAZED Units come with double or triple glazing as standard. ENGINEERED Engineered construction for better strength and stability. MORTICE & TENON CONSTRUCTION DOWELLED CONSTRUCTION DOOR SETS Doors with this symbol are available as door sets. All door sets are Part L (energy saving u-values) and Part M (mobility) compliant. PAINT N PEEL Finish the door as per the instructions on the label. Once done, any film covering the glass can be peeled off leaving a clean, smooth finish to the door and pristine glass. *For guidance refer to Approved Document M which relates to access and to use of buildings. 116 MOULDED INTERNAL DOOR GUIDE - Core of the door Internal Moulded Doors Choosing the right internal door for your project is important. That s why we have designed the following guide to help you make your choice easier. MOULDED PANEL DOORS We offer an extensive range of various panel configurations from the new, modern 1 panel through to the popular 6 panel design. From smooth to textured faces and a selection of core specifications including standard, FD30 (fire resistant for up to 30 minutes) and FD60 (fire resistance for up to 60 minutes). We also offer glazed doors with toughened glass conforming to BS6206 (A) or BS EN With hardwearing one piece moulded door facings, these doors offer excellent appearance, performance and value. STANDARD CORE A standard core door is constructed for light duty, non fire rated applications. It weighs approximately 15kg and is suitable for domestic use. (Picture 1) 1 SEMI SOLID WEIGHT CORE A semi solid core door is constructed to offer a heavier feel than the standard option. It weighs approx 20kg.
