3 1 INTRODUCTION With solar modules from Hanwha Q CELLS Australia Pty Ltd (hereafter referred to as "Q.CELLS") you can directly transform the sun s unlimited available energy into environmentallyfriendly solar electricity. In order to ensure the maximum performance of your Q.CELLS solar modules, please read the following instructions carefully and follow all guidelines. Non-compliance may result in damage and / or physical injury. This installation manual provides instructions for the safe installation of crystalline solar modules. ÄÄPlease read these instructions carefully before proceeding with the installation. ÄÄPlease retain these instructions for the life of the solar modules. ÄÄPlease ensure that this installation manual is available to the operator at all times. ÄÄThis installation manual should be given to all subsequent owners or users of the solar modules. ÄÄAll supplements received from the manufacturer should be included. ÄÄPlease observe all other applicable documents. Intended Use This manual is valid for Australia. These instructions contain information regarding the safe handling and use of quality crystalline solar modules from Q.CELLS and for their installation, mounting, wiring, and maintenance. Symbols and Labels The following symbols and labels are used throughout the installation manual for ease of use. SYMBOL DESCRIPTION Safety Regulations The solar module operator is responsible for compliance with all applicable statutory requirements and regulations. ÄÄThe following regulations and standards must be upheld at all times during the installation, operation, and maintenance of the solar modules: Installation and Operation Manual. Other applicable documents (such as country-specific regulations for pressure equipment, operational safety, hazardous goods, and environmental protection). Regulations and requirements specific to the system. Applicable country-specific laws, regulations, and provisions governing the planning, installation, and operation of solar power systems and work on roofs. Valid international, national, and regional regulations governing work with direct current, especially those applicable to the installation of electrical devices and systems, and regulations issued by the respective energy provider governing the parallel operation of solar power systems. Accident-prevention regulations. Qualified & Skilled Personnel The operator and installer are responsible for ensuring that installation, maintenance, connection to the grid, and dismantling are carried out by trained and qualified specialists with approved training certificates (issued by a state or federal organisation) for the respective specialist trade. Electrical work may only be performed by a CEC accredited licensed electrician complying with valid accident prevention regulations, and regulations of the local energy provider. ÄÄThe installer of the system is responsible for compliance with all necessary safety regulations during set up and installation. Q.CELLS assumes no liability on the basis of these instructions. Q.CELLS is only liable in the context of contractual agreements or in the context of accepted guarantees. Q.CELLS accepts no other responsibility for the functionality and safety of the modules. 7 2 PLANNING 2.2 Requirements Installation Site Please note the following guidelines that apply to the installation site: The modules have been tested according to IEC for operation in a temperate climate. Solar modules are not explosion-proof operating equipment. ÄÄDo not operate solar modules near highly flammable gases and vapours (e.g., petrol tanks or stations). ÄÄDo not install modules in enclosed space. ÄÄDo not install modules in locations where they may be submerged in water. Prevention of Shading Effects Optimalsolar irradiation leads to maximum energy output: ÄÄFor this reason, install the modules so that they face the sun. ÄÄAvoid shading (due to objects such as buildings, chimneys, or trees). ÄÄAvoid partial shading (for example from overhead lines, dirt, snow). Limitations The solar modules are designed for the following applications: Operating temperatures from 40 C to + 85 C. Wind and snow loads up to max. 5,400 Pa (as tested according to IEC 61215). Installation using a mounting structure for solar modules. Clamps that fulfil the structural requirements of the installation site. long-term stable clamps that securely affix the module to the mounting structure. Module Orientation Requirements Vertical or horizontal installation is permitted. Installation with a junction box at the bottom is permitted for modules with junction boxes classified as IP65 or IP68. ÄÄEnsure that rain and melting snow can run off freely. No accumulation underneath the modules. ÄÄEnsure that the drainage holes in the module frame are not covered. No sealing of the drainage holes. ÄÄMaintain the permissible angle of inclination. Minimum angle of inclination: 3 Maximum angle of inclination: 80 > 20 : self-cleaning effect. < 20 regular check for soiling is required Mounting Structure Requirements Requirements for the mounting structure: Compliant to structural requirements. Compliant with local snow and wind loads. Properly fastened to the ground, the roof, or the façade. Forces acting on the module are transfered into the mounting substructure. Ensures sufficient rear ventilation of the module. Guarantees long-term stability. Prevent corrosion among dissimilar metals. Allows for stress free expansion and contraction due to temperature fluctuations. ÄÄEnsure that no mechanical stresses are generated on the module (e.g., caused by vibrations, twisting, or expansion). ÄÄEnsure that the clamps and the mounting frame are compatible. Clamp System Requirements Use customary clamps that satisfy the following requirements: Clamp width: 40 mm. Clamp height compliant with a 50 mm frame height. Clamp depth: 7 12 mm. Clamping surface area (depth x width): 400 mm². Inverter Inverter x x x x A module with 1,210 mm-long cable can be wired as a "2nd next neighbour". "2nd next neighbour" - Wiring without a return cable. Standard wiring with a return cable. When this mounting option is used, the permissible wind and snow load limit is reduced to 2,400 Pa. 9 2 PLANNING 2.4 Electrical layout Module Selection For detailed key electrical data, please refer to the product data sheet for the respective product. ÄÄOnly connect modules of the same type and the same power class. Safety Factor During normal operation, it may occur that the module provides a greater current and/or a higher voltage than that determined under standard test conditions. Therefore, refer to AS / NZS 5033:2012 and the Clean Energy Council Guidelines. Series Connection Connection of modules in series is only permitted up to the maximum system voltage as listed in the applicable data sheet. ÄÄTake into account all possible operation conditions and all relevant technical standards and regulations. This will ensure that the maximum system voltage, including all necessary safety margins, is not exceeded. ÄÄTake into axccount the voltage limit of the inverter when determining the string size. ÄÄOnly connect modules of the same type and power class into 1 string. Make sure that all modules connected in series have the same orientation. ÄÄTake into account the maximum system voltage of 600V on domestic dwellings. Parallel Connection Modules may be damaged by the occurrence of reverse currents (caused by module defects, ground leaks, or defective insulation). ÄÄEnsure that the maximum reverse current rating indicated in the data sheet is observed. In order to limit reverse currents that may occur, we recommend using the following safety options: 1) Layout with a limited number of parallel connected strings : Without undertaking string overcurrent protection, a maximum of three module strings may be operated in parallel on an inverter or MPP tracker. 2) Layout with overcurrent protection devices : Install overcurrent protection devices in the positive and negative conductors of each string. Observe the overcurrent protection device specifications as indicated by the respective manufacturer as well as valid technical guidelines and standards. NOTE! When installing different product versions, the lowest minimum permitted reverse current load capacity applies. Inverters Inverters with or without transformers may be used. 10 3 INSTALLATION 3.1 Safety and transport ÄÄEnsure that all personnel know and follow accident-prevention and safety regulations. ÄÄDo not install damaged modules. ÄÄInform your dealer of any damages immediately. I D GB ÄÄInspect the packaging for damages. ÄÄContact the transport company regarding any damage to the packaging. ÄÄFollow any instructions on the packaging. ÄÄCover the modules with a light-blocking material such as a thick tarp. ÄÄLeave modules in their original packaging until installation. ÄÄStore the modules securely in cool and dry rooms. The packaging is not weatherproof. WARNING! Fire Risk! ÄÄDo not install modules indoors. 12 3 INSTALLATION 3.2 Preparation of installation ÄÄBlock off the installation zone. ÄÄKeep children and unauthorised individuals away from the solar power system. WARNING! Risk of injury due to falling modules! ÄÄSecure modules during installation. ÄÄDo not install modules in windy or wet weather. ÄÄOnly use dry, insulated tools. ÄÄDo not carry out the installation alone. ÄÄEnsure that modules and tools are not subject to moisture or rain at any time during installation. Only install undamaged modules and components. 13 3 INSTALLATION 3.3 Module installation Option 1: ÄÄFasten the module with 4 clamps in the specified clamping area, see fig. 3, p. 8. ÄÄTighten clamps to a torque as specified by the mounting system manufacturer. ÄÄMaintain a distance of at least 10 mm between two modules. 10mm 10mm Option 2: ÄÄInstall the module at the 4 mounting points, see fig. 3, p. 8. NOTE! Module damage may occur! ÄÄDo not subject modules to mechanical tension. Max. torsion 3 mm/m. Option 3: ÄÄInstall the module using slide in profiles, see fig. 3, p. 8. 14 4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTION 4.1 Safety DANGER! Risk of fatal injury due to electric When disconnecting an electric circuit carrying direct current, electric arcs can occur that may result in life-threatening injuries. ÄÄDo NOT unplug the cable when under load. ÄÄDo NOT connect any exposed cable ends. ÄÄDo NOT touch both conductors at the same time. Do not insert electrically conductive parts into the plugs or the junction box. ÄÄNever open the junction box. ÄÄDo not remove bypass diodes. A solar module generates electrical current and voltage even at a low intensity of illumination. Sparks and electric arcs may result from the separation of a closed circuit. These can result in life-threatening injuries. The danger increases when several modules are connected in series. ÄÄPlease note that even at levels of low irradiation the full open circuit voltage can be active. ÄÄPlease follow the valid national regulations and safety guidelines for the installation of electrical devices and systems. ÄÄPlease make sure to take all necessary safety precautions. In case of module or phase voltages of more than 120 V ripple free DC, the extra-low voltage range is exceeded. ÄÄCarry out work on the inverter and the wiring with extreme caution. ÄÄEnsure that the modules are disconnected at the inverter prior to separation. ÄÄBe sure to observe the specified time intervals after switching off the inverter. High-voltage components need time to discharge. ÄÄNever touch live contacts with bare hands. ÄÄDo not touch both conductors at the same time. ÄÄOnly use dry, insulated tools for electrical work. 15 4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTION 4.2 Electrical installation safety ÄÄEnsure for correct polarity. ÄÄNever unplug the cable when under load. 1. Switch off the inverter. OFF DC isolator ÄÄBe sure to maintain the time intervals as specified between switching off the inverter and beginning any further work. 2. Cover the modules that are to be disconnected. 3. 16 4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTION 4.3 Connection of modules ÄÄUse PV1-F solar cables for the connection of solar modules. ÄÄOnly mate connectors of the same type from the same manufacturer. NOTE! Module damage may occur! ÄÄEnsure that the cabling is not under stress. ÄÄEnsure that the cables do not run between module and subconstruction (danger of pinch). SOLAR ÄÄEnsure that all electrical components are in a proper, dry, and safe condition. ÄÄDo not connect modules with different orientations or tilt angles in the same string. ÄÄEnsure for a tight connection of the plugs. Plugs click together audibly. A module with 1,210 mm-long cable can be wired as a "2nd next neighbour". "2nd next neighbour" - Wiring without a return cable. Standard wiring with a return cable. 17 4 ELECTRICAL CONNECTION 4.4 After installation ÄÄEnsure that all necessary safety and functional tests have been carried in accordance with currently valid standards and guidelines. NOTE! Module damage may occur! ÄÄEnsure that the plug connections are not lying in water. ÄÄIntegrate the system into the existing lightning protection system in accordance with the applicable local regulations. WARNING! Fire Risk! ÄÄDo not use light concentrators (e.g., mirrors or lenses). ÄÄEnsure that cables are protected from wind/snow effects, mechanical protection requirements of AS/NZS 3000 are maintained and that cables are protected from abrasion, tension, compression and cutting forces. 18 5 EARTHING Protective Earthing ÄÄThe modules must be earthed in accordance with the local statutory regulations. ÄÄProtective earthing may be installed using the preassembled earthing holes of the module frames. Alternatively, protective earthing can be installed by using special earthing washers or module clamps which fulfill Australian standards. 6 FAULTS AND DEFECTS DANGER! Risk of fatal injury due to electric ÄÄDo not attempt to fix any problems yourself (e.g., glass cracks, damaged cables). ÄÄPlease contact an installer or Q.CELLS Customer Service Department. 7 DISPOSAL ÄÄDo not disconnect modules yourself. ÄÄPlease commission a trade specialist. ÄÄAsk your local waste authority for options of disposal. 19 8 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Q.CELLS solar modules are known for a long operating life and minimal maintenance effort and expense. Dirt and grime are usually washed away by rain. If the module is fully or partially shaded by dirt or debris (e.g., plants, bird droppings), it needs to be cleaned to prevent a loss of performance. NOTE! Module damage may occur! ÄÄDo not clean modules with water if there is a risk of frost. Maintenance ÄÄThe system should be inspected by an installer annually to check the following: all system components are securely fastened and free of corrosion. the electrical connection are secure and all electrical components are clean and undamaged. impedance to earth 0 Cleaning WARNING! Risk of injury due to hot and live modules! ÄÄOnly clean modules that have cooled down. ÄÄDo not carry or wear any electrically conductive parts. ÄÄRemove dirt with lukewarm water, a soft broom, or a soft cloth. ÄÄDo not use detergent, soap, scrapers, or any high-pressure water cleaning equipment. WARNING! Risk of falling due to unsecured access! ÄÄNever access the installation area alone or without taking adequate safety precautions. ÄÄPlease commission a trade specialist. Clean the modules as follows: ÄÄRemove snow and ice without force (e.g., with a soft broom). ÄÄDo not scratch off dirt. ÄÄRinse dirt off with lukewarm water (dust, leaves, etc.) ÄÄUse a soft cellulose cloth (kitchen roll) or sponge to carefully wipe off stubborn dirt. Do not use micro fleece wool or cotton cloths. ÄÄUse an alcohol based glass cleaner. Do not use abrasive detergents or tensides. ÄÄRemove any dirt and debris (leaves, bird nests, etc.) from the substructure. ÄÄIsopropyl alcohol (IPA) can be used selectively to remove stubborn dirt and stains. ÄÄPlease follow the safety guidelines provided by the IPA manufacturer.
