5 What is the International Undergraduate Degree? Advanced Access to the 2nd Year of a University Degree The International Undergraduate Degree is a package exclusively designed for international students to obtain a full UK bachelor s degree consisting of the NCUK International Year One (IYOne) qualification plus two years studying at a leading university. The IYOne is a credit bearing qualification which enables you to study the first year of your UK bachelor s degree at an approved NCUK Study Centre, with guaranteed access to the second year of your UK bachelor s degree at an NCUK university. With the International Undergraduate Degree, you can choose to start your degree locally resulting in a more cost-effective way to obtain your UK bachelor s degree, or you can choose to build a global network and study internationally see Karen s journey on page 29. You will study a relevant and carefully designed syllabus, academically equivalent to the first year of a UK bachelor s degree, all within the supportive environment of one of our quality assured NCUK Study Centres. There are hundreds of degree courses available at a range of leading universities. Studying the International Undergraduate Degree means you can earn credits towards your UK bachelor s degree as well as the following benefits: How Long does it Take to Complete the International Undergraduate Degree? Just like a normal UK bachelor s degree, it takes 3 years in total to obtain your degree and you will study the first year by completing the IYOne at an approved NCUK Study Centre and then transfer to the UK to complete year 2 and year 3 of your degree. Enables you to study in multiple destinations throughout the world Allows you to save on costs by completing the first year of your bachelor s degree locally (IYOne) Provides you with a choice of hundreds of different university degree courses, combined with fantastic levels of service and support Equips you with the tools and skills needed to succeed at university Creates international opportunities and improves your career prospects, with over 80% of NCUK students achieving a first or second class degree. 7 How will I be Assessed and Who Awards the Certificate? Most modules consist of a combination of exams and coursework, with the examination component usually accounting for 75% of your final module mark. Some modules, depending on the subjects you re studying, consist entirely of coursework. All assessments are set by a team of NCUK subject experts, from UK universities. Assessments are quality-assured by NCUK. Upon successful completion of the IYOne, you will receive a certificate and transcript from NCUK showing that you have passed the qualification. Students who complete the IYOne gain 120 UK credits (equivalent to 60 ECTS credits) towards their university degree. After completing the IYOne, you will transfer to a UK university. Once you complete your degree, you will receive a full degree certificate from the university which will be exactly the same as if you studied all of your degree at university. English Language Skills for Academic Success If you need to, you can also study an the NCUK English for Academic Purposes (EAP) module, which helps students acquire the high standard of English language needed to study at a UK university. Our EAP module is accepted for visa entry when you apply to study the remainder of your degree in the UK. What are the Entry Requirements? To gain entry onto the IYOne you must meet the entry requirements with either: 2 x D grades from the NCUK International Foundation Year 2 x D grades at A-level 24 points or more on the International Baccalaureate GPA of 2.0 first year pass from a US Degree You are also required to hold an IELTS of 5.5 (or equivalent) or D grade from the NCUK English for Academic Purposes module. NCUK has a dedicated Admissions and Placement Team to ensure that students get in to the most appropriate degree course at one of our universities. All students receive a guarantee of two conditional offers and one guaranteed place at an NCUK university. Even if you do not get your expected grades, the NCUK Guarantee means we will find you an alternative offer based on your grades and area of interest via the NCUK Clearing Service. 29 Introducing Karen Abril Dominguez Montes, an NCUK Student Ambassador, whose International Undergraduate Degree journey led her from Mexico, to China and the UK. YEAR 3 Progressed to the second year of BA (Hons) International Business Management (with placement) at Manchester Metropolitan University YEAR 5 Returned to the UK for the final year of her NCUK journey YEAR 2 Studied the NCUK IYOne in Shanghai YEAR 4 Completed a Placement Year in Mexico, with a marketing company. She gained experience including working as a Project Manager on a trade mission, travelling to Guatemala and Costa Rica to oversee operations, and coordinating the event. YEAR 1 Travelled from Mexico to Shanghai to study the NCUK International Foundation Year I studied at the Sino-British College in Shanghai and then in the UK, with a placement year in my home country of Mexico.
