2 1 METAL OR TIMBER? When creating stud partitions, wall linings and suspended ceilings the traditional method of installation has been to use timber. Modern building methods are changing. Moving from timber to metal, the move in the commercial sector has been much quicker than in the residential sector and nearly all installations are completed using metal, but house builders and RMI installers are also starting to make the change. The growth in use is down to a number of factors: Metal partitions are up to 50% faster to install No noggins are required Higher fire, sound and moisture resistance levels can be achieved It s lighter, easier to handle, has consistent accurate dimensions and does not warp and twist like timber

4 3 HOW TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT TYPE OF METAL Depending on your requirements 2 types of metal products are available. GTEC are designed for projects which require system performance such as fire or sound resistance. 5 4 Non specification metals are a lower cost option designed for installations which do not have these requirements, such as linings, ceilings and partitions in residential projects. 7 6 INSTALLATION 1. Fix U Track to ceiling and floor at the desired location starting at the adjoining wall. Use the C studs to assist in aligning ceiling and floor studs if required. 2. Starting at the adjoining wall end cut each C Stud 5mm shorter in height from the floor to the ceiling and place into the U track and screw to the wall at 300mm centres using suitable fixings. 3. Cut each of the remaining studs individually leaving each one 5mm short, place in U Track but do not fix into position so it can be moved during board installation. 4. Starting with half a board cut the board 5mm shorter than the floor to ceiling height. Butt the board firmly against ceiling and wall and fix with Drywall Self Tapping screws at 300mm centres. Move the unsecured stud to the end of the board allowing room for the next board to be attached. 5. Moving to the other side of the partition install a full board marking the centre line and moving the next stud into location at the end of the board. Fix screws at 300mm centres on all 3 studs. 6. Continue with full boards cutting 5mm shorter in length marking the centre of board to highlight the location of each centre stud, installing on alternate sides of the partition for each board. This will set the stud locations perfectly and negate the need for measuring each one individually.

9 8 INSTALLATION 1. Fix a dryliner track at 600mm centres to the floor and ceiling using suitable fixings. Allow for required cavity of at least 25mm. 2. If applying direct to concrete make sure that the surface is dry and a damp proof membrane has been used. Ensure that the large flange of the dryliner tracks is on the plasterboard side. 3. Mark vertical lines at 600mm horizontal centres to fix the dryliner channels. 4. Start at the centre of the wall and position the dryliner brackets directly to the wall at a maximum 800mm vertical centres on the marked lines (at shoulder and waist height). Secure using suitable fixings. Fold out the toothed wings of each bracket to form legs. 5. Cut each dryliner channel 5mm shorter in height from the floor to the ceiling and place into the dryliner track. 6. Ensure channel is plumb and secure to each bracket using a Pan Head Self Tapping screw. 7. If installing kitchen units, install a GTEC Fixing Channel or timber reinforcement at the height of the wall and floor units need to be secured. 8. Cut plasterboard 5mm shorter than the floor to ceiling height. Butt the board firmly against ceiling and fix with Drywall Self Tapping screws at 300mm centres. 9. Butt the plasterboard edges lightly against each other and centre the edges over the channels.

10 9 HOW TO INSTALL AN MF CEILING MF is a suspended ceiling system suitable for most internal drylining applications. The fully concealed grid and ceiling lining can be used in conjunction with Siniat plasterboards. 11 10 INSTALLATION 1. Mark a level line around the perimeter of the room at the required height of the ceiling taking into account the thickness of the board or boards being used. 2. Fix the edge channel above the line around the whole perimeter of the room with suitable fixings at 600mm centres. 3. Install metal angle 90 degree to joist or structural soffits at centres required for total ceiling weight (as per table below), leave them longer than the new ceiling height. Install the primary channel at the required centres across the room sitting on the top of the edge channel and screw to the metal angle using self drilling screws. 5. Install ceiling channel at right angles to the primary channels at a maximum of 450mm centres, fix to the primary channel with connecting clips for single layer boarding or screw in place with self drilling screws for multi layer systems. 6. Install insulation if required and then fix the required plasterboard to the edge channels at 150mm centres and ceiling channels at 230mm centres. Stagger board joints if installing multiple board layers.

12 11 GTEC RESILIENT BAR PARTITION SYSTEMS GTEC Resilient Bar is a versatile component that can be used with a variety of partitions to provide improved acoustic performance. GTEC Resilient Bar decouples the plasterboard from the metal frame to reduce sound transmission with little increase in thickness. It is fixed across the flanges of GTEC C Stud and GTEC Board to provide a substrate for the plasterboard away from the metal framing. WHERE TO USE: GTEC Resilient Bar is used with the GTEC C Stud Partition system in both domestic and commercial application. 14 13 HOW TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT SCREWS Often the part of installations where people look to cut corners or costs are with screws of the incorrect type, length, quantity and quality. The screws often are the component which is holding everything together and poor quality or installation can lead to issues in performance and/or safety. Siniat screws are tested to ensure maximum quality and durability enabling us to provide fire, sound and moisture resistant system ratings, using non Siniat fixings can alter a systems capability. This guide will assist in the correct selection of Siniat screws for your project. The screws are available in various sizes in both standard and wet area performance. SCREW TYPES High Thread Self Tapping Self Tapping High thread, self-tapping screw Used for installations into timber, for correct screw length add all the layers being fixed together and then add a minimum of 25mm of the screw into the timber. Fine thread, self-tapping screw Used for installations into metal up to 0.7mm gauge, for correct screw length add all the layers being fixed together and then add a minimum of 10mm of the screw into the metal.

15 14 Fine thread, self-drilling screw Self Drilling Used for installations into metal between 0.7mm and 1.2mm gauge or joining 2 metal components together, for correct screw length add all the layers being fixed together and then add a minimum of 10mm of the screw into the metal.
