4 Mission Staatsbosbeheer Working towards a sustainable living environment for man, plant and animal is central to Staatsbosbeheer s mission. Because Staatsbosbeheer as a social organization is there for and on behalf of society we cooperate actively with Dutch citizens and the organizations, and institutions which represent them. Objectives 1. maintaining, restoring and developing woodland, natural heritage, landscape and cultural-historical values at Staatsbosbeheer s sites; 2. promoting outdoor-recreation recreation at as many Staatsbosbeheer sites as possible; 3. contributing to the production of environmentally-friendly, renewable raw materials such as timber. 4
5 Why has Staatsbosbeheer been made independent independent? ( by law in 1997) To enhance a more efficient management A broader based policy for nature [e.g. stakeholder involvement] A better response to the public demands > But the minister will maintain political responsible! Control Staatsbosbeheer is an independent administrative body whose principal is the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. Since Staatsbosbeheer s independence, annual agreements have been made with the ministry which list the objectives and the price at which these are to be realised. Staatsbosbeheer annually reports to the Ministry and to the parliament in the so-called Verslag Doelrealisatie [Objective Realisation Report] on the results achieved. 5
