1. GEO / APN PALSAR CB Project Utilization ALOS Satellite Data to Support Mapping and Monitoring Deforestation and Degradation in Indonesia was accepted by GEO in 2010 (GEO-CFP Program). The Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) provides funding for the project in Team Members: RESTEC Agency for Assessment and Application Technology (BPPT) The Ministry Forestry Republic Indonesia 6
1. GEO / APN PALSAR CB Project Requirements from Indonesia Ministry Forestry still has difficulties to handle more than 1,000 scenes ALOS/PALSAR data obtained through JICA s project in BPPT is interested in dual/full polarization data to be provided from ALOS-2 satellite. To meet these requirements, RESTEC will invite around 10 trainees from Indonesia to Japan and provide two weeks training in May/June Exploring more fund to continue this project. 7

3. JICA Funded Brazil Project The Brazilian Institute Environment (IBAMA) and the Federal Police Department (DPF) had a strong interest in PALSAR data to protect forest from illegal logging. They asked JICA to transfer the techniques PALSAR data to IBAMA and DPF in JICA launched 3 year project called Utilization ALOS images to support protection the Brazilian Amazon forest and combat against illegal deforestation. RESTEC, as an implementing organization the project, transferred the techniques PALSAR as well as RS and GIS stware. JAXA provided PALSAR data for IBAMA through the framework ALOS K&C initiative. 14
3. JICA funded Brazil Project IBAMA makes color composite images from PALSAR ScanSAR strip data and overlay on Google Earth. JAXA, METI RESTEC included JAXA, METI Background Cnes/Spot Image, 2011 GeoEye and 2010 Google
4. Agreement between Japan & DRC Ministry Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology Japan (MEXT) and Ministry International and Regional Cooperation DRC made an agreement in July 2011 Purpose is to facilitate the cooperation in the area capacity building satellite remote sensing data. Under this agreement, Japan will invite DRC researchers to JICA remote sensing training in Japan in near future. 16
