3 Travel and Logistical Information for Delegates Welcome to Kampala! The 2009 Regional Meeting of Parliamentary Committees on Health in Eastern and Southern Africa is at the Speke Resort and Conference Center, Munyonyo, Kampala. Please refer to the programme for full details on the schedule of sessions. Meeting Programme To accommodate different arrival times, a buffet dinner will be served the evening of Sunday, 20 September 2009 at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre, Munyonyo for all sponsored delegates. The meeting opens on Monday, 21 September 2009 at 9:00 am (registration opens at 8:00 am) and continues through to 6:00 pm. Dinner and cultural entertainment, sponsored by the Parliament of Uganda and PPD ARO will begin at 7:00 pm. Tuesday, 22 September 2009 has been reserved for check-out of the hotel and departure for delegates not remaining for the EQUINET conference; if you have a later flight this day, you might also have additional time for sightseeing in Kampala. The Regional Network for Equity in Health in East and Southern Africa (EQUINET) is a network of academic, professional, civil society, state and parliamentary institutions within east and southern Africa that aims to promote and realise shared values of equity and social justice in health. EQUINET supports and carries out research, dialogue, capacity building, exchange of information and experience and critical analysis to build knowledge, shape strategies and inform policy and practice on health equity. The African Population Health Research Centre (APHRC) is a non-profit, nongovernmental, international organization that is committed to conducting policy-relevant research on population, health and development issues in sub- Saharan Africa. The center also facilitates the use of research evidence in policy and practice, in addition to strengthening the research capacity of African scholars and institutions to enhance skills in generating credible scientific evidence. The Southern and East African Parliamentary Alliance of Committees of Health (SEAPACOH) is a network of Parliamentary Committees on Health in Southern and Eastern Africa. The objective of the network is to build a more consistent collaboration of the Parliamentary Committees on Health towards achieving individual and regional goals of health equity and effective responses to HIV and AIDS. The network aims to strengthen the role of Parliaments in the areas of oversight of budgets, review of legislation, policy and providing leadership for achieving goals of equity in health and effective responses to HIV/ AIDS, TB, Malaria and other diseases important to the region. 11
