2 1.1 The faces of EHPA 1.2 Karl Ochsner Ochsner GmbH Phone: Karl Ochsner, born 1946, graduated 1968 at ETH, Federal Institute of Technology Zürich/CH, where he studied mechanical engineering. In 1978 he founded a company for the development, manufacture and sales of heat pumps. Since 1992, he has been active exclusively in heat pump technology for various applications. He is leading multiple research projects in the field and is expanding his company into one of international significance. Since October 2006 Karl Ochsner is chairman of the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) and since 2003 chairman of the Austrian Heat Pump Association (BWP). Brigitte Bach, MSc leitet seit Januar 2009 das Energy Department des Austrian Institute of Technology. Nach dem Studium der Astronomie an der Universität Wien und der Technischen Physik an der TU Wien und der Universität Tübingen absolvierte sie ihr Doktoratsstudium in Technischer Physik in Wien und Tübingen. 3 Forschung wechselte sie 1992 in die Wirtschaft, wo sie unter anderem als Referentin für Umwelt- und Energietechnik des BIT, Projektmanagerin für die ASA International, Geschäftsführerin des österreichischen Ökologie-Institutes und selbstständige Unternehmerin im Umweltbereich arbeitete. Ihre Karriere beim AIT begann Heute forscht Sie mit ihrem Team von rund 100 Mitarbeitern an jenen Schnittstellen im Energiebereich, wo in den nächsten Jahren die größten Technologiesprünge zu erwarten sind: im Bereich der Energieinfrastruktur sowie bei gesamthaften Energiekonzepten für große Gebäude, ganze Stadtteile oder Regionen. Im Herbst 2009 wurde Brigitte Bach der Preis Österreicherin des Jahres 2009 in der Kategorie Forschung verliehen 1.4 Martin Forsén Mr Forsén recevied his Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering 1997, at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. After a short period at the electric utility Vattenfall, Forsén rejoined the Royal Institute of Technology as a researcher. Forsén was specialising in simulation of heat pump systems and worked closely with the Swedish heat pump industry. In 2003 Mr Forsén was recruited President of the Swedish Heat Pump Association, SVEP. Through his position Mr Forsén got engaged in the European Heat Pump Association where he upholds the positions as Chairman of the Executive Committee and Treasurer. Mr Forsén has participated in a number of European heat pump projects and is since 2008 the appointed editor of the annual publication European Heat Pump Outlook. 1.5 Thomas Nowak Thomas Nowak (Secretary General) Phone: thomas.nowak@ehpa.org Thomas Nowak holds a university degree in business administration (1996). After several years of project activity in the field of renewable energy and sustainable development, je joined the EHPA in Starting as Communications officer, he was nominated as Secretary General in In his work represents the association in Brussels and throughout Europe. It includes participation in the different consultation fori, as well as in maintaining contacts with MEPs, the European Heat Pump Association Rue du Congrès 35 B-1000 Brussels page 3

4 commission and other associations. Thomas is actively participating in the Qualicert, SEPEMO and Ground-Med projects and is running the daily operation of the association. Apart from that he is member of the board of the EU technology platform on renewable heating and cooling. Thomas has a background in business administration and economics and several years of experience in the renewable energy industry. 1.6 Axel Lehmann FIZ Karlsruhe Content and Services Energy and Environment Phone: axel.lehmann@fiz-karlsruhe.de Dr.-Ing. Axel Lehmann, born 1947, graduated from the Technical University of Dresden where he studied mechanical engineering. At FIZ Karlsruhe he managed several international heat pump projects (IEA, European Commission). Axel Lehmann was the first secretary of EHPA. Since its foundation in the year 2000 he is a member of the Executive Committee and acts as the webmaster of the association. 1.7 Hermann Halozan Hermann Halozan Graz University of Technology, Austria Hermann HALOZAN, born in Graz 1940, graduated from the Graz University of Technology, Austria (1965) in mechanical engineering. After one year in industry, he returned to the Universi- European Heat Pump Association Rue du Congrès 35 B-1000 Brussels page 4

5 ty as an assistant professor at the Institute of Thermal Engineering. In 1974 he received the degree of Doctor of Technical Science (thesis on the static and dynamic stability of two-phase flow in steam generators), in 1980 the venia legendi (Univ.-Doz.), since 1981 deputy head of the Institute and head of the HVAC department; 1996 he became a university professor. He specialized in the field of energy conservation with particular emphasis on heat pump systems, has authored several papers and lectures on building services engineering, heat pumping technologies, heating, ventilating and air conditioning, and on efficient energy utilization. In 2005 he retired from but retains close contact to - University. In addition to his university activities, he works as a consultant for industry and governmental organizations. Within Austrian IEA activities he is delegate and chairman (since 2008) of the Working Party on End-Use Energy Technologies, delegate of the Implementing Agreement on Advanced Heat Pumping Technologies (IEA Heat Pump Program, chairman), and head of the Austrian National Team of the Heat Pump Centre. He is member of the IIR/IIF and he was president of commission E2 heat pumps and energy recovery, member of the Science and Technology Council and member of the Management Committee. 6 1.9 Reginald Brown Gundula Tschernigg AIT Austrian Institute of Technology Sustainable Thermal Energy Systems Phone +43(0) Mail: Gundula Tschernigg is working at AIT in the field of sustainable thermal energy systems since 2005 mainly in solar thermal energy, heat pumps and photovoltaic. Main tasks are: the lead of a variety of national and international projects related to dissemination, quality assurance and education of renewable energies, coordination of the vocational trainings offered by AIT in the field of heat pumps, solar thermal energy, photovoltaic and ventilation. She was elected Vice Chair in November 2009 and will become Chair in November European Heat Pump Association Rue du Congrès 35 B-1000 Brussels page 6

7 1.11 Fredrik Karlsson Since 2008 Fredrik is manager for a group within R&D at Danfoss Heat Pumps in Arvika, Sweden. Before joining Danfoss I worked 9 years for SP Swedish National Testing and Research Institute where I worked with heat pumps and also took a PhD in Building Services Engineering Andreas Zottl AIT Austrian Institute of Technology Sustainable Thermal Energy Systems Phone +43(0) Mail: andreas.zottl@ait.ac.at Andreas Zottl studied building technologies at Burgenland university for applied sciences in Pinkafeld. After his diploma thesis on heat pump field measurements, he started working at arsenal research as head of the heat pump test rig in In 2005 he joined DAIKIN air conditioning in the field of product & quality management. He later worked in product development for rail tech systems at Semperit Technische Produkte Ges.m.b.H. Finally he re-joined arsenal research, now AIT in His main tasks are project management for national/international project in the area of heat pumps, collaboration for developing measurement concepts and systems, lecture in the training program EUCert for the certified heat pump installer and working in different national/international standardization committees. Since 2009 he is 2. vice chair of the national ON-K 223 committee, chair of the national working group ON-K 223 AG01 and vice chair of EHPA TC norms and standards. In his free time Andreas Zottl likes music, reading books and doing all kind of sports, especially mountaineering and ski touring in winter time.
