2 Statistical Averages 2007 and 2008 Approximately animals are boarded at the shelter each year animals are adopted out each year. Nearly 3000 people visit the shelter each year.

4 Current Facility Challenges Only 1900 square feet Room for 20 canines Room for 30 felines No Crematory (currently freeze carcasses and use Lewisville Landfill to dispose of them). Currently lease our facility. It is aged and not originally deigned to serve as a shelter. Heating and cooling is accomplished by window units / gas furnace. They are inefficient, costly to repair and maintain and provide inadequate ventilation. All canine pens share a common drain which poses health risks due to cross contamination. Will lose necessary parking lot due to the widening of Eldorado Parkway. No laundry room / no laundry machines

7 Proposed Facility Could be built on existing land near the Town Service Center (1 acre). Minimum square footage to meet current 2008 needs = 3,500. Anticipated square footage needed to meet the demands over the next years = 4,000 to 5,000. Estimated cost to build per square foot is $209. A 3500 square foot facility is estimated to cost $732,000. A 5000 square foot facility is estimated to cost around $1,000,00. Crematory machine $43,000 in addition to building costs.
8 Proposed Facility (continued) A 3500 square foot building would give the shelter: Room for approx. 30 canines (includes 2 quarantine and 2 isolation pens) Room for approx. 50 felines (includes a small quarantine room and a small isolation room) A laundry and food storage room A mechanical room Canine and Feline adoption rooms Outdoor pen for canine exercise and socialization

12 New Shelter Designs by Quorum Architects Our design of Mesquite s s new Animal Shelter and Adoption Center included changing the way people view the animals. Instead of seeing them in cages, dogs and cats are brought out individually to meet their potential adoptive parents. This makes for a much nicer atmosphere and a design that works for four-legged animals as well as it does the two- legged kind. We performed the master planning, design and construction administration for the 11,380-square square-foot project.
