12 12 Water Cycle positions ourselves throughout the entire water value chain 1 Studies, master plans and project management engineers provide technical solutions to distribute, treat, and remove pollutants from water resources. 2 Engineering and construction of water treatment plants New units, extensions or rehabilitation, Sino French Water designs and builds all types of water treatment plants for the production of drinking water, desalination of sea water, wastewater treatment, etc. 3 Drinking water treatment withdraws water from the natural environment and treats it so that it is of good quality for consumption. Sometimes, water is drawn from the sea, undergoes desalination before it is potable. 4 Storage and distribution Drinking water is stored and distributed through a network of pipes that requires continual monitoring and maintenance.

13 13 5 Consumption Drinking water routed is tallied and invoiced to various customers by calculation of meters in conjunction with customer service. 6 Domestic use of water collects wastewater for local authorities, before routing it to wastewater treatment plants. 7 Industrial use of water A great deal of water is used for industrial processes. The water is collected and pollutants removed before it is released back into the environment. 8 Wastewater treatment Wastewater is routed to wastewater treatment plants. The treated water can then be released back into the natural environment or reused for watering, irrigation, or industrial processes. 9 Recovery of sewage sludge Sludge produced by wastewater treatment is treated and turned as an alternative to fossil fuel for power generation.

15 15 DRINKING WATER SERVICES We work with mainland partners to offer the safest, highest quality water production services to municipal, industrial and business clients. The earth s freshwater resources are a mere 2% of the planet s total water supply. Currently, there are one billion people on the planet without access to clean drinking water. China, one of the countries with the lowest per capita water volume, faces water shortages across two-thirds of its cities. Our water ecosystem is facing serious challenges, with a dwindling supply posing dire health and safety threats. To address this issue, the 12 th Five-year Plan includes an initiative to expand water production facilities from urban to rural areas, in order to secure access to clean water for 300 million rural residents. leverages the powerful network of technologies and R&D of our shareholder, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, to bring successful, cutting-edge environmental solutions and international management expertise to China. We apply European standards to the continuous improvement of the water quality, management and services of our joint ventures to provide safe, quality water production and full water supply services to domestic, industrial and commercial users. While maintaining a committed contribution to water conservation, we also work to address the problem of water shortages in local Chinese cities. In Changshu, the joint venture s overall customer satisfaction recently ranked fifth in the urban water supply service satisfaction index for 100 Chinese cities. It was also named one of China s First 5A Water Suppliers and Most Socially Responsible Company for its service excellence; in Tanzhou Town of Zhongshan city our joint venture s NRW dropped below 7%: world-class standard. The Chongqing joint venture produces water ranked in the top 10 in terms of quality in 46 large and medium-sized Chinese cities. In other parts of China, our joint ventures meet 100% outlet water quality requirement with turbidity levels consistently below 0.2NTU, far better than the required national standard. 16 16 INDUSTRIAL WATER TREATMENT Providing bespoke, integrated water and wastewater treatment solutions for customers in industrial parks Mass industrial production has caused the earth s limited resources to diminish, and now poses a great challenge to the environment. Companies in industrial parks share Sino French Water s long-term commitment to conserving energy, reducing emissions and recycling resources in industrial park projects. At, we understand that industrial users are diverse and that they face myriad environmental challenges. Recognizing such diversity among our clients, we always seek to gain sharp insights, through research, to thoroughly understand our clients needs, before we develop water treatment solutions for them. Our aim is to develop the best technology and management solution for clients, so that they might cut production costs and reduce the environmental footprint resulting from operations. Currently we have provided integrated water and wastewater treatment services for industrial parks in Shanghai, Chongqing, Wuhan, Changshu, Dalian and Qingdao, among others. These customized technological solutions were designed around the principles of sustainability. They balanced and harmonized the needs for business growth with social and environmental benefits. In Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP), one of Asia s largest petrochemical platforms, we supply drinking and industrial water and treat highly polluted effluents, including those with high organic concentration and salinity. Through s diligence in researching the most appropriate treatment solutions, our customers benefit from cost savings and operational efficiencies. The Shanghai Environment Protection Bureau even integrated ideas from the successful wastewater management principles of our SCIP joint venture in its latest round of environmental regulations. 17 17 MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT Promoting China s economic growth and environmental responsibility through sustainable solutions Extensive migration from rural areas to new urban areas is an important driver of China s economic growth. This trend is generating huge demand for municipal wastewater treatment. High quality water production and wastewater treatment provides indispensable support for rapid urbanization and urban industrial growth. In the 12 th Five-year Plan, China is targeting 85% for urban wastewater treatment, with a view to addressing the environmental challenges arising from economic development. In Chongqing, Chengdu Shuangliu and Chongzhou, we combine various types of wastewater treatment processes and top-level management expertise to deliver finished water that matches or exceeds top national discharge benchmarks. The wastewater treatment plant in Chongqing Tangjiatuo is one of s largest, capable of complete treatment processes and cutting-edge automation technologies. It is also the second largest wastewater treatment plant in Chongqing. Our wastewater treatment plant in Shuangliu, Chengdu, has been recognized by the local government as a pilot wastewater treatment project. MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT Chongqing Tangjiatuo Chengdu Shuangliu Chengdu Chongzhou Nanjing

18 18 SLUDGE TREATMENT Extracting value from waste to energy resources As municipal wastewater treatment capacities grow significantly, we are now facing a fresh problem and challenge: sludge (a byproduct of wastewater treatment). According to estimates by China s Ministry of Environmental Protection, the sludge produced by several thousand wastewater treatment plants in China now exceeds 30 million tons per year. Nearly 80% of the sludge has undergone no stabilization or proper treatment. To assist the government in meeting its target of 70% to 80% treatment rate of municipal sludge by 2015, has introduced the patented and most energyefficient INNODRY 2E sludge treatment process from SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, to China. In 2008, built China s first sludge drying plant within the Chongqing Tangjiatuo wastewater treatment plant. In 2009, we built Jiangsu s first sludge drying plant in Suzhou Industrial Park. This plant uses cutting-edge technology to capture heat generated from sludge treatment and turn the sludge into fuel with low heat values for power generation. This serves as a valuable alternative to fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal and creates an optimal model of resource sharing and synergistic growth among the wastewater, sludge and thermal-power plants. This project has become a demonstration project for energy saving and circular economy in the province. So far, has replicated the technology in Yangzhou and is the exclusive provider of safe, energyefficient, environment friendly sludge drying treatment services for all domestic and industrial clients in Yangzhou city. In 2009, we set up Environmental Technology Consulting (Shanghai) Company Limited, our first wholly owned subsidiary that specializes in environmental technology. Our goal is to provide O&M and technical support services in water, wastewater, sludge and organic waste projects through a more flexible partnership model. In turn, this move has allowed us to disseminate our Group s global managerial expertise and patented technologies to where we operate. Its main businesses include Operating and managing water, wastewater, sludge and organic waste treatment facilities Providing technical support in the treatment of water, wastewater, processing water, reuse water, demineralized water, sludge and organic waste Providing technology optimization and modification solutions O&M SERVICES Jiangsu Changshu Advanced Materials Industrial Park Dalian Changxing Island Economic Zone
