6 Objectives of a trade study A trade study is the activity of a multidisciplinary team to identify the most balanced technical solutions among a set of proposed viable solutions - FAA, 2004 Performance (e.g. strength, stiffness, creep, fatigue ) Reliability (e.g. mean time between failures, maintenance requirements ) Safety (e.g. safety factor, crashworthiness, impact detection ) Cost (e.g. material, manufacture, use, maintenance, disposal )
