LONWORKS-BUS technology made by WAREMA: A new dimension of intelligence and creativity. Innovation from tradition. WAREMA is proud to be the market leader in sunshade technology. But that s not enough. We are also well known for decades of innovations in this area, with which we have given the industry new impulses and set new standards. This dedication is reflected by our extensive product range. From roller shutters to control units - you can get it all from one single source with WAREMA. So much to our technical background. But we never forget the human aspect! WAREMA has earned a reputation as a fair and reliable partner for planners and architects across the world. An important aspect in this is that thanks to the direct contact with you, we know all about your individual requirements for ever more intelligent sunshade systems, which constantly drives us to develop new and improved products. That s how we achieve results that create trust. Sunshade technology of the hiqhest quality. As experts in the implementation of BUS systems for sun shading systems, we know: The demands on functionality and aesthethics for building system technologies are ever increasing. This is one reason, why WAREMA has long been utilising LON- WORKS-BUS technology. This technology opens planners and architects entirely new dimensions. It offers solutions that have not previously been possible. Whether energy conservation, optimised light control, utilisation across different maintenance groups with LONWORKS-BUS technology by WAREMA, you get intelligent control for every system. Fine-tuned to each individual situation. LONWORKS-BUS technology is a registered trademark.

See what you can gain with LONWORKS-BUS technology by WAREMA. 4 Bender Stahl- und Metallbau, administration building, Würzburg Perfection to the last slat. Thanks to WAREMAs LON- WORKS-BUS technology, you can design your sun shading system in a way that renders thousands of sunshade units individually controllable. This alone will help illustrate what possibilities are opening up for architects and planners. On the one hand: Perfect daylight guidance offering completely new dimensions for room staging. On the other hand, the use of LONWORKS-BUS technology allows the perfect interaction of sunshade technology with other parts of the building system technology, based on a common program language (LONTALK protocol). This means that all available resources can be fully exhausted to the minutest detail. A true revolution in terms of comfort and cost effectiveness. Cut the power: Switch on the light! 40% of the operating costs of a commercially used building are used on lighting alone. And what s more, the resulting excessive heat must be channeled away from the building through climate and ventilation systems. This process is often complex and costly. WAREMA sun shading systems based on LONWORKS-BUS technology allow for much more efficient lighting. In the summer months, the solar energy is perfectly controlled depending on the time of day or month. During winter, the energy is actively used in a controlled manner. Sun shading and light guidance are so effective that clear cost savings can be achieved in terms of the air

conditioning and heating concept of a building. Everybody is talking about the weather. WAREMA LON- WORKS technology acts on it. Whether sun, wind, rain, snow or ice with WAREMA LON- WORKS-BUS technology, you are on the safe side of the weather. This system utilises far more meteorological data than most other technologies - despite the fact that we are using fewer measuring devices than usual. Although this might seem strange at first sight, it is based on the fact that data (such as room temperature) is captured and analysed across maintenance groups and made available to other BUS participants, whilst it is normally only used for other stations of the building system. This means that our sun shading elements react even more sensitively to the prevailing weather conditions. Sun to slat: Please rotate! The fact that comfort is a key element of WAREMA sun shading systems on the basis of LONWORKS-BUS technology may be illustrated by the following example: automatic slat guidance. This technology means that changing incidence of light does no longer force users to walk from their workspace to the sunshade control unit and back. Thanks to the WAREMA LONWORKS-BUS technology, the sunshade reacts automatically and adjusts its position according to the prevailing conditions. This technology therefore guarantees perfect light and climate conditions at all times whilst continuing to offer a view to the outside. WAREMA LONWORKS technology: In the name of the people. New legal regulations regarding workstations and energy consumption also affect sunshade systems. WAR EMA sun shading systems based on LON- WORKS-BUS technology help architects and planners to implement these new regulations, which demand much more advance planning, in everyday practice. The concave slat alignment in the lower part of the assembly has the same effect as the conventional alignment the workstation is protected from the sun. The upper light-guiding part transports significantly more luminescence into the room. In the Work setting position the lower slats reflect the sun and provide dazzle shading for all workstations, whilst the upper slats direct the light at the ceiling to illuminate the room evenly. 5

More freedom for unconventional ideas. The WAREMA LONWORKS-BUS technology in practice. More demands. More data performance. More BUS technology. Although conventional systems and common BUS systems will continue to be used, growing amounts of data (caused by more functionality and comfort or by more bus participants) are processed easier through advanced systems e.g. through WAREMA LON- WORKS-BUS technology. The data transmission speed can be increased seven-fold. Thus, data is transported and implemented more efficiently. The result: faster response times through WAREMA sun shading systems and more comfort - just like you have envisaged it. 6

The David and Goliath principle: Outstanding data performance - simple technology. Our LONWORKS-BUS technology consists of three basic components: - The sensors. They capture and store the measured data for example sun, wind speed, precipitation, temperatures etc. The data is then transported from the individual sensors to the actuators. - Die actuators. They process the data from the sensor units and, based on pre-programmed thresholds and parameters, decide whether or not to give impulse commands. - The motor. They are directly connected to the actuators and trigger the necessary movements. Special motors for top WAREMA technology. In order to increase the positioning accuracy of motors for WAREMA sun shading products used with LONWORKS- BUS technology, a hall sensor (incremental encoder) delivers relevant feedback, for example regarding positioning and slat angle, at every motor rotation. Building automation is often still based on central control systems. However, the capability of bus systems decreases with increasing numbers of participants. In contrast, WAREMA LONWORKS-BUS technology eases the demands on the bus system, as computing power and control rest with each participant via the LON-MSE (actuator). Example actuator: LON-MSE4M230 to the next actuator zur nächsten MSE central control central unit power supply 230 VAC Versorgungsspannung 230 VAC M ~ M ~ control commands M ~ M ~ feedback impulse encoder Impulsgeber optional decentralized control measured data LON sensor unit LON-Netz bis zu max. vier Taster anschließbar LON-Netz LON network up to 4 push-button switsches LON network 7

Safety First... The first rule for WAREMA sun shading systems based on LONWORKS-BUS technology. How to steal thunder from the weather. Our wind sensors work with the highest precision. We produce them in durable, weatherproof aluminium. Furthermore, we position the sensors in a way that they react to the wind direction in a controlled manner. When exposed to the wind, they react faster; in sheltered positions, they react more slowly. Our wind control system is so advanced that it can even differentiate between different WAREMA sun products. Depending on the material used, lighter and hence more wind sensitive products made from fabric or plastic are retracted sooner than products made from aluminium. The same goes for the technology. Here, our control units differentiate clearly between rope guidance and track guidance. In short: Exact commands - exact execution. 8

Prepared for all eventualities. In case of emergencies: In case of a fire alarm, all WAREMA sun shading products automatically retract. This enables the arriving fire crews to trace the origin of the fire, as it instantly becomes more visible from outside. In addition, possible escape routes for people trapped inside the building are kept open and their chances of escape are therefore increased. It is not surprising that more and more fire protection regulations stipulate this type of technology. Similarly, this system now often forms part of the specifications for tenders. You see: technology that protects - not only from the sun. Always in the positive range - even with below zero temperatures. The intelligent WAREMA precipitation control unit based on the LONWORKS-BUS system can be programmed to know, which sun shading product (i.e. awnings or markisolettes) made from which materials is used. This is because every material has different stress potentials. Our measuring stations are able to detect this and react accordingly. Instantly and precisely. Furthermore, they can combine different data. Hence the information rain + falling temperature results in the command Ice alarm. Only if contexts are recognised, systems can react correctly. 11 Make your own comfort. With WAREMA sunshade systems based on LONWORKS-BUS technology. Perfect timing for perfect light and view control. The timer integrated in the actuators ensures that you do not become a slave to programming your system. It guarantees that superior impulse commands are executed at fixed, pre-programmed times of the day or night. For example the position

night cooling which not only ensures room freshness, but also guarantees an aesthetically balanced view of the building facade (through a process in which all sunshades are aligned evenly). Other situations demand view protection for certain occasions in specific offices. This is often the case with banks, lawyers offices, insurance brokers etc. that need to ensure 100% confidentiality and protection from industrial espionage even out of office hours. Of couse you can also program the sun shading system in your room in such a manner that you are greeted with your preferred light setting each morning, afternoon or evening. Work with visual judgement: WAREMA photo automation systems. With our photo automation system, thresholds for external brightness (sun/cloud) can be defined. If these threshold values are reached, the system automatically triggers a timedelayed response. In practise, this means that, for example, if light irridation reaches more than 45 kilolux for longer than two minutes, the sunshade is activated. If the light irridation falls below 25 kilolux again for more than 25 minutes, the shade is automatically retracted or rotated to allow maximum light penetration. This ensures that not every cloud in the sky triggers a command in the WAREMA sun shading system which in turn causes numerous changes in position. Our photo automation system always reacts according to the prevailing light conditions. Even the most calculating sceptics quickly warm to this idea The WAREMA temperature automation system. Through data exchange with a measuring point for outside temperatures, the measured information can be used to establish various scenarios. These scenarios consists of a combination of different influencing factors. For example: how much shading at which allocation is needed for each individual room? - What light control is needed, i.e. when using 14 PCs in the first shift, 7 PCs in the second shift and 4 PCs in the night shift, in order to fulfil the legal requirements for workstations? - WAREMA LONWORKS-BUS technology always has the answer. Even in connection with single room control units for climate and heating, certain scenarios or functions can be supported. For example, the controller can send the command more heat to the sunshade. This causes the slats to rotate to allow the room to be flooded with sunlight and warmth. Of course, this scenario works both ways. If the room needs to be cooled, the slats close fully and restrict the heat supply. o C Transmitter for outside brightness, temperature window control light-control cooling ceiling light heating control unit ventilation movie screen and radio clock receiver. 11

The sun is constantly moving. WAREMA slat guidance based on LONWORKS-BUS technology moves with it. 21./22. Juni Sommersonnenwende 21. März/23. September Tagundnachtgleiche 21./22. Dezember Wintersonnenwende Süden Zenit Westen Sonnenuntergang Osten Sonnenaufgang Norden Each light condition has its time. We can offer perfect shading for every situation. The position of the sun at a particular location depends on the earth s position on its course around the sun. This means that the solar irradiation angle is different in the winter and the summer months. The correct guidance of slats via LON- WORKS-BUS technology allows the perfect shading of rooms in buildings - regardless of the time of day or year. The LONWORKS-BUS control unit guides the slats according to the position of the sun and is even able to counteract the dazzle from very low sun positions. This allows for the best possible yield of daylight without the need for sunlight to be shining directly into the room. Sensors allow for the brightness to be measured and artificial lighting to be switched on or off as needed. This brings very clear benefits: Reduced overheating of rooms thanks to perfect shading arrangements and consistent use of diffuse light. Considerable reduction of energy requirements and reduced installation costs when compared with similar systems. Dazzle shading through guided slat angles shadow line shadow line shadow line transparency transparency transparency 12

WAREMA LONWORKS-BUS technology. Because everyone is entitled to their own light. The WAREMA annual shade program. As individual as a fingerprint. Based on the outline of a building, its alignment to neighbouring buildings and its clearly measured geographical orientation, typical individual shading patterns can be established for different days and seasons. The data gathered in this way exactly predicts the seasonal light changes in individual rooms. This data can be saved and stored in so-called actuators. Based on this data, the actuator evaluates whether a window needs to be shaded or not. Hence shades for rooms which lie in cast shadow remain stored away. This results in better views and more light. Thanks to WAREMA LONWORKS-BUS technology, the complex task of shading a building in accordance with the position of the sun and the shadow from neighbouring buildings can be fulfilled completely, easily and without great technical efforts. 13

Everything under control: Control units for WAREMA LONWORKS-BUS technology. 14

WAREMA Visual Control Unit. Touching a button without losing your head. These days, every room in a building needs to be flexible and adaptable. Used for a presentation one minute, rooms need to be able to be quickly transformed into a meeting or a seminar room, an exam room, a theater, discussion forum, exhibition space etc. For each function, different equipment needs to be available and various parts of the building system need to be activated. There are many different buttons to be pressed without losing one s head. The Visual Control Unit by WAREMA lets you keep a cool head. With this control unit, different scenarios and appropriate control commands can be easily illustrated. For example, the button Power Point presentation is pressed on the Visual Control Unit: The blinds close, the ceiling light is dimmed down, the screen comes down, the beamer is activated and the presentation can begin. All this at a simple push of a button. Such scenarios can be stored in the WAREMA Visual Control Unit according to your individual requirements across maintenance groups and can be activated as needed. What could be easier and more comfortable than this? With the WAREMA Visual Control Unit you always know where you are at. Our Visual Control Unit gives you information on the room temperature and shows why certain impulse commands have been executed. Example: The slat position changes due to prevailing wind and rain and the shade is retracted. With the Visual Control Unit you always know why something is happening and will never have to use system errors as an excuse. The control unit furthermore allows easy operation via four menu buttons which control a multitude of functions. The LONWORKS-BUS technology is even stronger in a group. When using LONWORKS-BUS technology, all or a few selected actuators can be grouped together through the LON- WORKS network into meaningful groups. It is therefore possible to execute impulse commands for room sections, individual rooms, groups of rooms or entire facades via central or local control elements. And when the use of rooms change - i.e. when a meeting room is converted into a workstation or computer room - there is no longer any need for costly rewiring. A simple change of parameters in the appropriate group in the LON- WORKS network is enough. 15

No fear of complex technology: We make all our know-how work for you. Our development performance. The most important components which we use for our solutions for sun shading systems are all produced on our own premises. Through the use of analog technique, digital technology and microprocessor technology, we are able to meet your demands swiftly and in accordance with the prevailing legal requirements. As we are doing our own software development, we can guarantee that adjustments and special applications are always possible. And thanks to the unique depth of production in our plastics processing plant and our own metal processing plant, we can design and produce all necessary products according to your specific requirements. 16

Our production performance. The first prototype is ready, logistics are making all necessary materials available, the initial batch is under way, production can begin. At WAREMA, all this always happens under a good star. In accordance with ISO 9001, all our work is governed by the principle of Total Quality Management. But we are also making sure that the production technique is always right. A SMD assembly unit in Fine-Pitch technology ensures the accurate positioning of components on the conductor board. The subsequent fixing is done by a reflow soldering unit and the incircuit tester eliminates any possible rejects. Our planning performance. Every WAREMA LON control unit is individually planned and custom-made. We can assist you with the planning for product-specific wiring according to your needs and the necessary terminal connection diagrams for the control of your sun shading system. We can guarantee precision and security from design through to implementation. Our service performance. We can offer a wide range of services starting from technical consultation on site to the implementation and system integration of a WAREMA sun shading system and personal hotline support. If needed, we can even provide you with your own service team to support you with everything - from binding through to setting the final parameters. Furthermore, we can arrange training sessions for your WAREMA system at our premises or by our experts at your local offices. 17

Reference projects 18 Bonn, Posttower Bonn, Posttower At 165m, the Posttower is the highest administration building in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of the largest projects to incorporate LONWORKS technology. The ca sunshade units are controlled by 1500 locally installed motor control units of the type LON-MSE4M230 I by WAREMA. The control unit ensures the right slat angle for each working day of the year. Responsible for this is the socalled slat guidance, which guides the various slats correctly in accordance with the position of the sun. Each motor features an integrated incremental encoder (Hall sensor) to record its exact position and each engine shaft features a magnet that creates 2 impulses per rotation. These impulses are captured by LON-MSE in order to establish the exact position. For the interior venetian blinds of the Sky gardens, an annual shade diagram has been developed. Frankfurt, Gallileo Approximately 800 LON-MSE 4M230 AP60 were used to control the 3200 blinds. For the approx parallel exhibition windows with 24V motors, Warema has developed the LON-MSE 4MDC 3A AP60 with a special application featuring gap ventilation and window contact access. Slat guidance and annual shade diagram deliver a sun shading system of the highest comfort. Approx. 600 LON-VCUs control the lighting, ideal tem-

The display also indicates control override: For the light, this is light art (when the night lighting for the design element of the building is activated), for the shades weather, central or manual and for the windows weather, central, manual or muggy. The interior temperature sensor communicates the actual room temperature to the individual room regulator. Independent of preprogrammed settings, ventila- Frankfurt, Gallileo (new Dresdner Bank building) Frankfurt, Scala tion, heating and lighting can also be controlled manually via the control panel of the VCU. Frankfurt, Scala Like a colossal Y, this highrise building stands 17 floors high next to the A648. The venetian blinds in the box windows are controlled by 350 LON-MSE 4M230. Slat guidance ensures perfect use of lighting whilst at the same time protecting from direct sunlight. Locally fitted, conventional sensors ensure that each employee can adjust his or her sunshade to suit their individual needs. After two hours, an automatic reverse function sets the slats back to the angle based on the position of the sun, until the next manual intervention. Two floating 68 LON MSE control the motorised windows in accordance with wind and outside temperature floor by floor and facade by facade. To measure the wind speed at various heights and parts of the building, 20 transmitters have been fitted. Esslingen, Festo For the new Festo Technologie Center with 6 fingers, the entire building automation system was realised with LONWORKS technology. WAREMA has fitted ca. 400 LON-MSE 4M230 to control ca. 800 special venetian blinds. These blinds feature a second motor for independent control of the slat angles in the upper part of the unit. Thanks to slat guidance, the upper light guidance system transports daylight into the room. The lower part of the dazzle shade also follows the course of the sun. However, the slats remain closed in order to prevent dazzle on the workstations. For exact positioning, motors with Hall sensors are used. LON room controllers additionally influence the automatic controls. Once it is getting warmer, the mode is switched to slat guidance with closed slats. As soon as the temparture drops, the sunshades are retracted out of office hours in order to heat the building with free solar energy. The annual shade diagram prevents the shades from being retracted due to the cast shadow of the neighbouring building unit. Esslingen-Berkheim, Festo Technologie Center 19
